Feeder/float rig

I know a peg on my local river that will be holding good numbers of chub now that the weather is getting colder. The only problem is reaching and feeding them as its a 40yrd cast. The feeder catches one or two but its a real snag pit and Ive had a few on the waggler but loose feeding is hard so Ive been racking my brains of a way to get at them.

I have thought about a Middy feeder float, but I'm not sure how good it would be in 10ft of running water which left me thinking about doing something with a small feeder body on a waggler rig like this.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this or have you got any better idea's?

Brian.

this type of float is similar to a bagging waggler!! it is used for ejecting pellets to the top layers and surface for bagging carp on commercials traditionally!! I think you will be throwing bait all around the place and it will all get taken down stream from where you are fishing!

wait wait wait, dip, strike, net, wait wait wait.....

Brian get a good catty and fire out your maggots/bait that way, would that be no good ?

Ive got a good catty, but its out of my range. I did think about making a mini spod, but i was favoring this unweighted feeder idea as it would get my maggots down a bit.

You can always tyry it out and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out you could fire out a big feeder a dozen or so times just upstream from the swim and trott over it. Could you not get a bit nearer in your chesties if the rivers down a bit ?

Brian is that what the closed faced reel was for, did you get one ?

Perhaps " Stickymag " might be the answer to your problem if applied around a small stone which could be catapulted the required distance . Fish your waggler rig over the top . I believe anglers in Italy fish this way on their large deep fast flowing rivers.

PS: If you can't find Stickymag use Horlicks...

Lutra already mentioned the Middy feeder float, which is more or less a bagging waggler.

Lutra, I don't think the Middy float would stand up too well in a flow, simply because it's basically a waggler. Your idea in the drawing would work I think but you can buy other versions of feeder floats (bodied) more suitable for river work.

I remember playing around with that years ago and just getting in a mess. It dose sound promising so i think i will have to give it another go.

Thanks for that.
