I am going away this weekend and was thinking of taking some with me. Is it any good? does it need flavouring or anything or just soaking in a bucket.

cheers,

The good thing about vitalin is it holds together really well. I use this a lot for pre baiting on the rivers as it is so cheap. Especially as I can put in upto 10 bags before I even fish. I soak mine with water overnight, it can take alot. Next morning I add any bits and pieces, flavourings etc then add more water as it will need it, by the time I arrive river bank it is perfect for balling in. This is a great bait, cheap and the carp love it. I have even seen Barbel filling up on it.

do what I do, what the dog leaves I ball up and put in the freezer until I go fishing, this means I always have some on hand if I decide to go fishing at the last moment, and being frozen I know its not going to break up until it hits the bottom then it breaks up slowly. Top class for groundbait, especially if using sweetcorn for bait. :D:D

I'm not saying it won't take double the amount of water if left long enough, but I have never used anywhere near that much. I always find that the best thing to do is just add water until it is of a consistency like thick porridge and then compact it in the bucket with something like a saucepan lid. You can add hemp in the water it's just been boiled in, although don't overdo it or it will lose its ability to stick together. Twenty minutes is easily long enough for it to absorb all the water. I mix mine up before I set off, so that it "matures" on the way there. Boiling water will make it bind even better, but if you want to make a really thick and sticky mix that will even get down to the bottom of the Trent in one piece, add the water that you've boiled some maize in. I only found this out by accident.

Put what the dog leaves in the freezer? Aren't there special bins for what the dog leaves?
