  1. I suppose it should be in a specific section but there isn't a "fishing the globe" so I'll drop it in here. I'm off to Thailand in a couple of weeks staying in Krabi. I'm planning on some big game (if its available) with hire equipment and some small beach/ rock fishing with my holiday kit. Has anyone any ideas on methods for the smaller stuff? I've normaly used a little waggler and scraps of meat or bread as bait and caught a few aquarium sized fish but nothing decent. I'm thinking of lure fishing instead of bait this time. If anyone has been or fished a similar climate a tip or two would be appreciated.
  2. Can you land a 10lb carp which has taken a bottom bait on said rod? Yes? Then yes. No? Then no. Can anyone else? It depends on their ability to confidently tire the fish in a controleld manner.
  3. Afternoon, has anyone fished the above recently? I'm taking my wife who likes chucking a feeder about and the little feller who's just getting into his fishing. He's been on our local club waters a few times but would like to have a go elsewhere and this place has been on the cards for a while and gets good reccomendations from a few mates who fished it a year or so back. Cheers folk's.
  4. My pole came with two top kits and I decided I wanted a third to be strung with lighter elastics for silver fish. On the advice of the tackle shop I strung a universal with the lighter elastic because the supplied top kits are generally stronger. Over the weekend I had the need for the lighter elastic so used the universal. It made the pole heavier and made it feel very floppy even at 9m. At £30 for a universal set I'm pretty sure the extra few quid for an original would be worth the money.
  5. Problem with closed feeders is that the mixture will not escape the feeder, it'll just sit there clogged up and and bites you get will more likely be the carp nosing the feeder to investigate the insides. With rules like that I'd be inclined to stay away from feeder fishing and get the float tackle out, at a commercial you needn't fish more that a rod length or two out.
  6. Yes its good for fish, no you cant (well I wouldn't anyway) eat it. If this is a serious question, buy it in bulk from a pet shop and boil it for about 40 minutes until it splits open, but beware of your mum as the kitchen will smell for days.
  7. For anyone interested... Fishing the pole was pointless due to the ammount of small silver fish, however this did keep one novice and two kids entertained with a 4m whip. Mrs. Rich fished an open ended feeder with maggots on the hook to land 14 bream to 5lbs, showing the rest of the lake how its done.
  8. Luncheon meat on the hook. I've got a set of Fox punches which I use to form pellet sized chunks of meat. Slice a tin of spam into 1-1.5cm thick slices and punch out little cylinders of meat. Fish are sometimes wary to perfectly shaped bailts, so chop up the rest of the meat (ie the rest of the slice full of holes) and use that as loose feed and hookbait now and again. Fishery pellets are fine but with the restriction on feeders you might want to get some pva mesh and make up little bags of feed. Corn is always a favourite, again in mesh bags, but be carefull as any juice from the corn will eat through the bag.
  9. Try Todmorden Anglers. They own the rights on the canal from littleborough to Hebden bridge as well as several waters inbetween. As a taster Croft lodge (calderbrook road littleborough) and Grove lodge (todmorden road Littleborough) are both available as day ticket waters. For a good water to catch on the waggler try Hollingworth Lake an the Rakewood side near the overflow. Fish a waggler about 15-20 yards out in about 10 feet of water, feed a pouchfull of maggots every cast and you'll soon have a good shoal there, after that shallow up to about 4' so you're fishing on the drop. Feed then cast and draw over the loose feed. 10 - 20lbs of silver fish is easily do-able in a few hours. Down side is the pike, however if you're that way inclined chuck out a lure and have fun that way as well.
  10. I wouldn't wear lycra shorts to ride a mountain bike, the best pair I've got at the moment are Endura Singletracks however they do not come with a cham pad. That said I've been riding proper mountain bikes for so long I dont bother with a pad as my arse is like leather haha. A better idea is to buy a pair of shorts which take a detachable pad, then in the summer you can wash the liner whilst not having to wash the actual shorts. Also, a gel cover will not make a saddle comfier, you need a different shape perch if you are having real problems. Specialized Body Geometry are a good choice and I cant fault my WTB, however each to their own really. Bikes, just to show you that I do have an idea, and not basing all of this on 6 months riding a tank from Argos.
  11. Afternoon all, long time no post... We're off for a fun fillied weekend in a tent at Wyreside and its a prime oppertunity to get the little feller into fishing so we're gonna have a bash on Fox's lake. Whilst out and about today I called at the fishery as I was southbound on the M6 and had a walk over to fox after deciding that its the only real option open to us. Has anyone fished it, whats the going method, tips? I'm thinking of setting up the pole for me and a little waggler for my son (6yrs) and the mrs might chuck a feeder out at some point. Edit:- just to add that after a long time I bought Angling Times for a quick lunchtime read. Since when did coarse fishing become 100% about catching Carp?
  12. Its probable that we're nipping to southern ireland at easter to see some friends for a couple of days and the mention of a days fishing hasn't caused any uproar, the closest water (to nenagh) I can see is Loch Derg. I'm not really going to be up for traveling too far as the day may involve pre-baiting the evening before followed by a full day on the water. I'll probably go with the standard open ended feeder approach and maggots/works for hookbait but has anyone got any snippets of info I might use? Cheers.
  13. Fish the pole at either shelf, having 2 swims going is better. Possibly a small feeder to the far bank if there are any features. If its the same stretch I used to fish you will get rowers, however dont let them bother you as they dont bother the fish. We used to lift up the poles for a boat and as soon as they had passed drop in a golfball size of groundbait, the boat will have left the water swirling and we found the fish were fast to pick up the bits stirred up. Groundbait with particles in it worked wonders, just drop back in on top of it.
  14. Three word....Rod Stewarts Saxophanist
  15. I'd like to know why smokers dirty sods think they have a right to impose their toxins on everyone else, and why they should take priority in public places. To be honest, I think they are trying to justify their habit purely because the majority have given them the finger, in a massive way!
  16. Smokers are always going to moan about being forced out, but in an office should I have to go home smelling like an ashtray? Shall I just pop out and find another job because of some ingnorant prat down the corridor who has no respect for anyone else? Would you like it if I sat in a resteraunt on a table next to you and after finishing my meal let out a nice fart? I'd hazzard a guess at no, so why should you blow shite across at me? As for "Smoking sections", its about as usefull as having a pissing section in a public swimming pool. Face facts, passive smoke inhallation is bad for you. If you dont care about your own health so be it, but dont pass it on to everyone else.
  17. Sounds like a dead switch. Easy to replace. 2 wires from the fuse box, one red one black. The red goes to L supply, black to N supply ***************** 2 wires to the shower again red and black. Red to L load black to N load (live and negative respectivly) Just copy what is already there, TBH its not worth claiming for about a fiver. You'll need one of these http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/AA45SQN.html Also, invest in a mains test screwdriver, with the switch turned on, test the L load, if the driver lights up, its not the switch. If you dont feel confident about changing it, kill all the power in the house, swap the switch and turn back on. The worst you'll get is a blown fuse.
  18. Cheers mate, I had a browse through some sites and came to the conclusion that yes, you are right. Sportfish voucher will be airborne in 1-2 days.
  19. My only experience of flyfishing was a brief spell some 15 years ago, my mate however is an avid fluff chucker and I'm buying him a couple of lines for his birthday. Problem is he lives in Ireland, and fishes medium and small sized rivers. I sent his mrs a message asking for the weight of his rods (as thats about all I know I need). Response was on one rod, 10ft 4-5 second rod (kept in the car) 6 - 1 but some of the markings were worn out. I'm thinking of a floating and sinking line, probably to suit the 10' rod and I'm guessing the 4-5 is the line weight. Am I on the right lines (no pun intended)? Secondly, is there a nice online dealer who offer decent prices? Thanks, Rich.
  20. I've just finished our bathroom and you can see the floor (not all of it) in this working picture. slate type tiles on 12mm maring ply, scred at 150mm centres.
  21. You are not your ****ing post count!
  22. And how would 6 year old kids afford to pay road tax? Plates on bikes would be plain silly, take MINE for instance, the less sharp point bits the better if you wash out on a down hill. You'll find its the local authority who funds cycle lanes in an effort to cut conjestion by proving the roads are a safe place to commute (which is rubbish), the ammount of young drivers who rip through lights is more of a problem. And dont get me started on bloody bells!
  23. Meh, I was live at Heaton Park.
