Another Prosecution, and another, and ...........

Perhaps someone in the New Marine Fisheries Agency doesn't like foreigners!

see: http://www.anglers-net.co.uk/sacn/latest/index.php?view=571

Perhaps it's coincidental that as a result of the recent cabinet reshuffle, the minister previously responsible for DEFRA (as was) is now our Foreign Secretary, and her successor doesn'tlike the mess she left behind?

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

It's ridiculous that in the last example of the Frenchman, the fine for using illegal equipment in the cod end to prevent immature fish escaping was only £250 and confiscation of the cod end. Confiscate his boat and he might stop doing it!

Unfortunately, the value of the punishment has to fit the value of the crime, hence we can't chop burglars hands off. A clever man once said the law is an ass, never a truer word. :wallbash:

The value of the catch was £5714. Lets assume he got away with it 100 times before he got caught, that's half a million pounds. How much is a trawler?

top-side chafer.

What is this ?

Chafers are pieces of protective netting attached to nets to prevent undue wear and tear (chafing) . Chafers may be attached to the bottom of the net, bottom side chafers (BSC), or the top of the net, bottom side chafers (TSC), There are very precise rules as to how these Chafers are attached, especially regarding TSC. The mesh size and dimensions of the TSC and the exact way that it is attached to the cod-end of the net are all specifically set down so that the TSC does not obstruct or "blind" the cod-end meshes and prevent the escape of immature fish.

top-side chafer.

What is this ?

According to google:

the purpose of a top-side chafer is to protect the top or side panels of the codend from wear and tear should the rear end of the trawl twist along its axis during fishing operations;
