There used to be good tench in the canal just above where it joins the Rother.(Or more correctly, the Eastern Rother - there is another Rother in West Sussex)

Eastern Rother itself - used to be really excellent for trout above Burwash, good for chub around Etcchingham and fine for mullett around Starlock.

In between, around the Newenden area, it used to be stiff with skimmers and jack pike.

Haven't fished the Rother for some time though - as my mate the late Roger Standen said, "I think we have already had the best of it"

I can't help think that most rivers have had their best but certainly here in the South east that is for sure.

I chatted in the local tackle shop and i have been given some good pointers but there are plenty of waters to look into and i think i am going to have a good fishy time here in E.Sussex
