  1. i have 2,3 and 4oz but have only used the 3oz so far, but i am using 12lb braid so can probably get away with something smaller. john
  2. cool there looks like there may be a slipway between the two bridges but would be interested to know how far down the tide you can use it and whether its solid under foot at the end of the slip or mud... probably keep this one for exploring in fiull next year now. but when i do go i'll let you know may come up to the llangorse meet for a paddle and to meet people so will def catch up with you there john
  3. if your on the M4 going from cardiff to Swansea, just before the swansea turnoff the M4 raises up onto a huge bridge, if you look to your right you see the estuary going out to sea. http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&amp...p;scene=4335802 john
  4. Cheers for the advice guys i'll certainly check out the greys and the abu rods, there smack in the price range i was hoping to go for. my main consideration is to get a nice light weight rod that has a really responsive blank. think i'll go for a 9 foot model capable of 50-60grams so i can troll it too. john
  5. thought so just being me!!!! nice colour and really you don't mind about the problems i bet when you have the support of this type of service and the piece of mind of an excellent dealer behind you.. john
  6. is it me or have you got your yak tied down only using straps on the front.....
  7. Has anybody here fished the river neath estuary in south wales asking as i saw a guy in swansea marina who mentioned that he used to fish it a lot and he had plenty of good size bass from there. If anyone has any idea where you can launch from as its a pretty inaccessible area, and how have you got on there. john
  8. thinking of getting another rod to compliment the7 foot 8lb class rod that i have already. i'm after a light weight spinning rod capable of casting upto 50grams with a fixed spool loaded with 10lb braid. what length rods do you find easy/prefer to handle when out on the yak cheers john
  9. just looked on met check and if it can be believed they are forecasting 4-5 mph wnw which is excellent for south gower, oxwich will look like a mill pond and caswell shold be fine too another one to consider is port eynon....gutted can't get time off work as the sun should be out too!!!!! john
  10. congratulations again that is an incredible feat.. john
  11. dunno yet to be honest richi i do a lot of surfing and love that in the winter as all the tourists and wanna be's vanish oh and you get the better swells. i bought it with the thought that i would have 4-6 weeks before putting it away as i don't have the clothing for it and believe it or not i recon it would be warmer in the water than sat on it come january! who knows though, if ebay gives me a nice cag in the next week or so!!! john
  12. cheers richi next time your venturing up this way you'll have to send me a message. john
  13. cheers everyone for putting up with the questions and giving some really usefull advice went out at Oxwich on the gower last thursday. weather very light westerly so this bay was really sheltered.. good 2 foot surf on the beach not surprising as the surf was hitting the exposed beaches with 10-12foot faces! anyway got out no problems and trolled some rapala's a yo-zuri's along the rocks but not as close in as i wanted...anyway after an hour had the first fish on a yo zuri crystal minnow - a bass only just longer than the lure! he went back with strict instructions to go and find his bother but to no avail spent a while then anchored up catching doggies every cast but usefull excercise in getting fish over the side and being unhooked. put the rods away then while i went out to the point and had a play in the swell that was coming through. all in all a very enjoyable day. john
  14. hi s2vto i was asking the very thing in up and under (cardiff) today. they sell screws that don't need a backing..by all accounts you drill a small pilot hole and then screw them in idening the hole and if used wth silicon which wil seal should be alright!!! i too would like someone to either confirm this or provide an alternative. either that or you'll be able to spot a welsh yakker a mile off because there always holding their rod!! john
  15. cheers darnsarf much appreciated, i thought it might of been a bit of a how longs a piece of string... anyway i think i'll continue with about 30 yards john
  16. hi i'm new to trolling and wanted to pick your brains a bit. i want to troll something along the lines of a yo-zuri crystal which is supposed to go down to about 6-7foot while troled but how much line should i have out from the rod tip to the lure? sorry if this has been done to death john
  17. was up there on friday for a paddle and got speaking to a couple of fishermen small meps work well live bait and dead baits allowed if they are coarse fish dead baits they must come from this water or frozen from a dead bait provider. sea baits are good with the best being mackeral tails by all accounts may be up for it but will be able to travel as only comming from cardiff john.
  18. Do they allow yaks on Bosherton lilly ponds GB from what i remember there are some right big lumps in there! went up llangorse on Friday to get to grips with new kayak (Chrisw old prowler) and there were fry being chased into the margins all along the reeds at the top end of the lake. john
  19. nah i was going to send it tomorrow. i just mentioned that i think it would be better if we find out the reason they are seconds first before jumping to assumptions, if you've mailed them then i'll leave it in your hands. john
  20. i think finding out exactly why they are seconds should be established befrore this goes on too far. in the mean time i for one don't mind buying a seconds "anything" if the reason that it is a second doesn't render it dangerous to me or others. things that could make these yaks a second may be the colouring - doesn't match OK colours due to wrong amount of pigment added. the decals might be on an angle..both things which do not affect its sea keeping qualities. the issue with the prowler 4.5 and thin spots is a real and possibly dangerous in my mind and so should not be sold as a second but lobbed in a skip. but are we slamming OK by jumping to assumptions that these are the reason they are seconds have this very problem without investigating properly. i have drafted a mail which i will send to Go Kayak NZ asking why they are seconds . john
  21. I think the point that captain fishy finger is making is that his understanding of them being seconds are that because of colour issues or the decals in the mold are imperfect and not due to the hull being thin / or dangerous . We have all jumped to the assumption that its thin hulls that are being sold off CFF has just put another possibility in the frame. by the way if it is thin hulls they should be hung, but i cant imagine any company selling something like that in todays sueing culture. Can you imagine the damage to their reputation if someone had an incident in a kayak that they knew was defective but sold anyway even though at a lower price. You only have to look at how they are dealing with the issues that people have with them over hear...no quibble replacements. john
  22. What an excellent topic like the position of you rod holders yakerbass keep em comming. john
  23. have a look on boats and outboards they have loads i wouldn't go fo something too big as a first boat 20-22 foot would be the maximum there are loads of arvor or jeaneaus out there which would suit you perfectly
  24. Ive been using Sakuma Mantra extra's this year off the boat for smoothies and rays and cant fault them. they keep their point all day. Me and my mate had one of those red letter days when we landed 19 smoothies between us in about 4 hours and didn't have to touch up the hooks once and the thickness of the hook and size of barb doesn't mean leaving a large hole either. john
