  1. Dunno mate, not gotten out for a few weeks wot with work and the bloody kids
  2. i've heard people extolling 3lb bass as had to edit this as the phrase has been used recently that a fish of this size was "huge"
  3. thats the bit (above) i was working from Barry, ( know its a bit old but as you can understand i've been a bit busy lately).
  4. i have to agree Barry, a thought though, if British merchants are buying undersized bass (by our standards)from french sources then surely the answer to levelling the playing field and giving both sides of this (rsa and commercial) common ground is to ban the RETAIL of these fish, therefore removing any incentive to buy the fish and reducing the incentive for catching them as a market is then removed. Any thoughts Barry? Wurzell?
  5. some of them must have been approaching 48hrs since being handled then, any sign of handprints/ skin damage by then? just set myself up with some fly gear for mackeral and bass, gotta be more of a challenge than feathering (and more fun) no mch chance of overcatch here any more
  6. Fair play mate will avoid touching the non-keepers as much as possible then just to be on the safe side.
  7. Just how hard are these fish hooked? i've never yet seen a hand print on a fish i've returned, and by the way what i'm not going to eat or use as bait goes straight back. Is this all a bit of an old wives tale? (admittedly i do often use an old bar towel when i'm unhooking to avoid slime when handling kit/tying etc)
  8. ....Word.... Cheers sounds like a plan Barry just let me know the sp and i'll see when i'm working etc. Found the whiskey shop btw, you wouldnt believe i've been driving past it 8 times a day for the last year would you?
  9. cheers nick, Done that a bit back & you're right he's a bit busy isnt he!
  10. Where did you hear about it? and how did you come to be filling it in? I for one have only just discovered this 'e-fishing' malarky and to be honest, regrettably spend far more time at this than real fishing!
  11. All very interesting but as the average bloke with a familly a job and fishing as a hobby, i cant understand who has the time, money, or opportunity to attend all the necessary meetings! So if we have people who can represent us ...even if imperfectly.. then surely it is better than no reresentation at all??
  12. appologies for any offence caused, merely trying to make a point (possibly a bit too strongly) correct
  13. I never said we went into Iraq to 'save their kids from the republican guard' what i stated were things which happened whether or not you would like to believe it. i was pointing out that cultural differences did not mean that just because they are someone elses culture they should be left alone which seems to be the point which you were making. There is only so far that burying your head in the sand and appeasing those who are clearly wrong gets you, i thought that had been proved without a shadow of a doubt in the thirties, evidently people either are incapable of learning or simply dont want to. Reasonable discussion? you effectively said leave them alone, dont have an opinion, and if you do dont talk about it in case you upset someone so yes you are a do-gooder!
  14. Ok Ok I do apologise for allowing myself a sense of right and wrong and allowing this to colour my judgement, after all there is no way in the world i would like to have an opinon that would in any way impact on the rights of others to do something abhorrent
  15. But Steve, they'll only say your being emotive again, we should have stayed out of Bosnia didn't you know, wiring kids arms behind their backs and slotting them is in the Balkan culture! Or iraq (GW1) republican guard should be allowed to nail kids to doors as trophies, its in the culture! Tenuous admittedly but about as close as the link with fishing. F***ing do-gooders do my head in, thanks for the link.
  16. This was never about the killing for food of animals, merely the way in which it is carried out, the point is even made previously in this forum that the majority of the dolphins end up as fertiliser or pet food.
  17. Questions like the f***ers carried out a sneak attack on one of our allies, although the war did not directly involve the Americans at the time they were supplying us not the Germans. This hastened the American participation into the war which was coming anyway after the sinking of the Lusitania and other acts, which supplied us with a massive and much needed injection of fresh manpower at a time when it was badly needed. What the hell have the crime rates got to do with anything? talk about off topic, to start with in, to answerr anyhow. The crime rates in the uk are exteremely high due to a lack of effective law and a police force without the teeth to apply the laws which exist. the youth are brought up with the idea that there is no detterrant, they are brought up with no repect for themselves or anyone else and they are brought up by people who look at history through rose tinted glasses, try to muddy the waters with obscure references . Combine this with large numbers of immigrants with seperatist ideals and obscure innefective laws to control this as well and you will see the reasons for our escalating crime rates. Osama 'bin hiding' probably would feel at home as you would probably tell us he is mis-understood and his mummy probably denied him a mouthfull of t*t once. I quite agree that the pilot whale slaughter in the Faroes is on a par with this, as is the clubbing of seals and the 'experimental' whaling going on. Also to be considered if you want to go that far is the Europoean Veal industry. The modern role of the UK may not be to tell everyone else how to live but should we keep quiet instead with our fingers in our ears and chant 'la la la' ? or should we voice neccessary objectins to barbaric practises? As objectins have been raised with our own farming industry (whats left of it) and animal welfare practises tightened throughout the uk and to a lesser extent in Europe. As far as the 'lets nuke em and be rid of the problem' comment. Ive been a soldier, i've been involved in some stuff here and there, and i think that comments like this only show the ignorance of many people and belittle what has occurred in the past. No wonder our far east veterans cant get the recognition they deserve when their own countrymen think like this.
  18. wouldnt bother mate, tried it once and it made my tights wet, oh and the arrows all floated off!
  19. Well i know that all this stuff is going to happen no matter what we say here, but let me say this, i for one will not buy a licence and i will continue to fish regardless. I will keep a few for the table but return rather more as before. The only way to beat these idiots is for all to go this way, civil disobedience works when the publics opinion is ignored by those who are supposed to serve us, and sometimes is the only option.
  20. We all know the Japanese attitude to unneccessary cruelty, if anyone needs reminding just nip to your local British Legion and ask anyone with a Burhma Star or any other far east medal for that matter.
  21. Sorry Elton but that is utter BS there is no way you can compare the two! Watch the thing on TV about field to plate or whatever and tell me when you can see a group of animals with intelligence aproaching that of our own herded together, harrassed, tortured and killed in view of their peers.
  22. These were labelled as "Westcountry Mackeral" As far as freshness is concerned think they should have been labelled "eat now ****/puke later"
