  1. Have a look here: http://pic5.piczo.com/AshfieldAngling/?g=16326855&cr=5 Only about 2 miles from KIA,it's right next to the A38 and within easy reach of the A60 if you go to Notts that way. Also you can take the A611 back through KIA too Hucknall. If you have a Sat-Nav or Google Earth, NG17 4LS Hope this helps.
  2. I work for a large retail company and this is a very emotive issue. I have dealt with few complaints from able bodied and disabled people. I have had plenty of abuse as regards disabled parking from both sets of people. I have asked people to move from DPB's [disabled parking bays] and been given a tirade of abuse. What can you do,the DPBs are provided as a service for it's customers we don't have the time to police it,and i am not there to be abused.Forget the police, the car park is private and so they are not bothered. The amount of people who abuse the system, from what i have seen,is amazing.People who have a Blue Badge park in a DPB and then walk off,no wheelchair ,no stick,no zimmer nothing. When approached and asked why they have parked there the response is usually"I have a badge ,i can park where i like".I must stress not all people react in this way, some people knowing they have been "rumbled" will move. I have witnessed an argument between two disabled people over a DPB which ended in a scuffle. This was because one only had a stick to walk with while the other used a wheelchair and the guy in the chair said he had more right to the DPB because the other guy could walk. amazing. Most people are tolerant and complient with it.It is a small minority of the public who don't care, you just can't please everyone.
  3. Tough question to answer without a 10,000 word dissertation. Fishing,to me,is something i happen to be doing whilst i am relaxing. It's not a conscious thing in my case.If i want to relax,i go fishing,i don't think about ,i just go. The kit is usually in the car so it's not a problem, pick up some bait, doesn't matter what it is.The next thing i know,i'm fishing. Sometimes it's for a couple of hours,or a full day. All i know is,when i get back to the "real world" i feel a lot better.
  4. It's just cloudy here, although the wind is picking up a bit. Not the slightest hint of rain at the moment, the dark clouds are just rolling past us.
  5. To be honest Newt i don't think it will have that much effect. I stopped using The Post Office a while back, all the courier companies now offer competative pricing and get your parcel/package there on time, apart from DHL who seem to be totally incompetant. Most of the companies i use pick up from the your home as well. This is fine for me because i have to go into the town centre to use my "local" post office (the two nearest to me were closed down) and it costs a £1 to park. Most people use e-mail anyway,i can't remember the last time i wrote a letter. As for receiving the gas and electric bill,i don't mind waiting.
  6. You can give them a ring and ask. A1 Pits. Newark-on-Trent. Tel: 01636 612108
  7. All the places on there are day ticket waters. Putting up a club water or a private water was never my intention as people like yourself like their peace and quiet.I know i do.Plus you never know how the people in charge of the water would react. As a resource the virtual sites bring a lot more into your home,i have planned a weekends fishing from the information gleaned from the internet.
  8. Following on from Steve Walkers post http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=76304 I thought it would be a good idea if we could build a data base of fishing venues from our locations around the country, and actually "see" them.As google earth provides roads and maps, getting directions to your venue or match would be easier. As we have people from all over the country posting on here think of the ground we could cover,so to speak. You could have Pike venues,Carp venues, favourite stretches of river, favourite lakes the possibilities are endless. It's just a thought. Here are a few from me. Fishing_venues.kmz If the above file works it's a big thankyou to Steve Walker for his help.
  9. Ah,i see your point To be honest i don't posses one as i am not a big Carp angler. Not an excuse i know. Any thoughts on where to get a nice cheap one.
  10. They fish quite well when the conditions are right. All of these were caught at the Wood End Fishery. I use a 6lb main line,a free running bomb of 1/4 or 1/2 oz,to this i attach a 5lb hair rig about 12" - 18" long with anything from a 10 - 16 hook then bait with cheese.I don't try and over complicate things, keep it simple and it usually works. The landing net is 18" in diameter,so you get a rough idea of the size of the fish.
  11. The kennels are at the top of the hill,so you don't really notice/hear them. The guns are only air rifles,no shotguns, and most of the people use the indoor range, plus it's a fair distance away.I have only ever seen 3 people use the target area outside.
  12. Here are two of my local waters that i fish. We seem too talk about venues quite a lot,it only just occured to me to post something so you can all have a look. Hope you like them. http://pic5.piczo.com/AshfieldAngling/?g=1 http://www.woodendfarmcomplex.co.uk/default.htm Feel free to say what you think about either venue and have a good look around each site.
  13. I usually find the catapult a useful piece of tackle for kids. It's amazing how they dance when hit by a cup full of hemp. Then give them the excuse "Sorry mate my hand slipped off the cup,you O.K." Failing that throw em in,i have actually witnessed this event, but they were all kids of about 10-12years old. Three of them were fishing, the other was being a pain,so his mates threw him in.
  14. I sometimes find a longer shanked hook helps. It depends on how the fish are feeding and the presentation. A short shank forged hook may not get a bite, while a long shank fine wire hook will. Trial and error, mix and match,it's what works at the time.
