  1. My trusty prowler 4.5 elite is now up for sale to fund the imminent arrival of my Dorado ( hopefully !! ) It is around 15 months old and is in excellent condition apart from the few scratches on the hull that you expect from beach launches. There are several extras that will be included in the sale such as the fishfinder which is designed to specifically fit the ocean kayak range. Also fitted is the rudder kit which is really essential on the longer yaks and will make paddling really easy in difficult conditions. A great starter package for somebody, that has all of the fiddly fitting out work already done !! at well below retail price too I am looking for £700 A full list of items included in the sale listed below Any more details needed please drop me a PM Ocean kayak prowler 4.5 elite in flame orange colour (with std seat) £ 589 Ocean kayak rudder kit ( fitted ) £ 150 Silva 58f compass £ 30 Hummingbird 565 dual beam fishfinder, with removable deck mount Special scupper mount Bracket, battery with box, fuse and all Connectors £260 Berkley rod holder £15 Fitted anchor trolley system with stainless fittings £50 Carlisle magic paddle £50 Palm “on tour” PFD £ 90 TOTAL £ 1234
  2. Sometimes even though the prevailing conditions may not have changed, the turning of a tide against the wind can have a dramatic effect on sea conditions. Off flamboro where we fish we get some vicious tides and the difference between the ebb and flood on a 10mph easterly wind can turn from a gentle chop to a raging monster in less than an hour !!

    seat/backrests

Thanks for that blaze I had seen those and for some reason thought that they were a slight upgrade on the apex 1 and made by the same company. I have been looking for a US company to supply one to the uk so will give hook 1 a try. I think I prefer the standard seat bottom over the inflatable base one though, especially with all those hooks flying around !! Thanks again Rob

    seat/backrests

Thanks for all the advice lads, I think I will probably hang on for the apex and might even have a look at the one from australia. The yakpad one does look like good value for money though. Rob
  7. Hi all, after around 3 months with my Ok prowler elite I am more than happy with her, however I really want a backrest that offers more support when fishing at anchor as the standard one does not allow me to sit back and relax. After searching around I decided that I really like the look of the apex pro at around £70 but the problem is everyone I have tried is out of stock and seem unable to source any more !! Does anybody have this seat ? if so what do you think ?? or does anyone know of any viable alternatives that I can get hold of ??? I have seen the apex pro on some USA sites but they are around $190 without p+p !! any help appreciated Rob
  8. Nope sorry Elton its just made it worse for me I have just had a week off work where I was hoping to get some serious cod fishing done and this B******D weather has ruined it for me !!
  9. WOW bucketboy that setup looks ace !! I will bet you had a bit of modding to do to the motor stem and speed controllers etc ? that sort of project may be a bit out of my league as I am not too clever with electronics.
  10. I have the flame prowler elite, It is my first yak and overall I am pretty happy with it. sorry I cant give you a direct comparison to the p13 but I am 6ft and not far off 15st and I always have a bit of water sloshing around the footwells. I was beginning to wonder wether I should have looked at the big game before I bought the elite but decided that speed was more important than extra stability and dryness. I am having a paddle on a BG this saturday though so I might be regretting that !! Having had a paddle on a few different yaks last week I must say that I am very impressed with the elites speed, however in a following wind or sea it can be pain to keep in a straight line so I think I will be investing in a rudder system soon. Rob
  11. I am interested in seeing the minn kota mounts/motors that are supposed to fit my OK prowler elite. I have done a bit of googling but have yet to find anything yet ! I probably wouldnt use one that often but I can think of a few applications where a motor would be useful. Rob

    my yak

thanks Gerry I will do a bit of searching when time allows !! look forward to your pics though. Bobboy your the 2nd person on a different site to think that MY prowler is the same one as theirs !! must be NZ models. Cant remember where the crate came from as its been in the garage for years !! fits a treat though. Rob

    my yak

Hi Trev, it is a DIY job !! an old pair of nylon type chest waders that were ripped at the boot. I cut them off just above the thighs and cable tied the bottom together tightly, I then cut off all the straps and tied the 3 pieces of cord to holes I melted in the tops. I hav,nt used it yet as I have only just got my anchor trolley sorted, I will probably give it a try out tomorrow depending on conditions, Its only about 2ft across the mouth so not sure if it is going to be big enough ?? Gerry I think I will have to look at the RAM mounts for my compass and electronics as I am not completely happy with this setup. If anyone has any pics of their mounts I wouldnt mind having a look. Cheers Rob

    my yak

Hi all, just thought I would share a few pics of my setup, I have had the prowler elite for around a month now and have got it 95% of the way towards how I want it. I need a new seat as the standard one does not offer enough support for me and the lack of padding in the base gives me numb bum after 3 or 4 hours ! I was looking at the apex universal on the brighton canoe site, they look amazingly comfortable but unfortunately are out of stock for another 3 weeks or so, Anyone out there know of any other decent backrests ? or where I can get the apex ? here is my crate with holders for the anchor, fishbag and drogue. this is my fisfinder/ GPS and compass setup, its not perfect but with limited room I have yet to find a better solution, anyone got any other ideas ? This is the anchor trolley setup, prowler 4.5 elite owners beware when following the kayak uk site instructions for the trolley you will have to position the control line cleat more forward than they do, as it is impossible to reach the position inside the yak to fit the bolts where they fit it on the p13. I found this out after drilling the holes !!

    rivetts

Thanks guys Is there a particular size I need to get as they come in lengths between 6mm up to 14mm as well as different diameters ?? cheers Rob
  16. robq

    rivetts

Yes you do !! it quite clearly states mark, drill and rivett the clamcleats cl213 and 214 into position ?? I know in the pics the alanite cleat is bolted into position with 40mm m4 bolts but it is a very fiddly awkward job, hence why I asked if it was possible to use rivetts instead !

    rivetts

Hi all, I am just in the pcocess of fitting my anchor trolley and have done all of the ropework. I now need to fit the small alanite cleat and the clamcleats, which I am still waiting for. Having never used a rivett gun before and not knowing anything about different types of rivetts can anyone advise me on whether or not I can rivett the anchor line locking alanite cleat ? as they would need to be around 40mm long ?? and what type of rivetts will I need for the clamcleats when they arrive. Cheers Rob
  18. There dont seem to be many hummingbird dealers in the uk, johnsons outdoors are the uk suppliers though and they own hummingbird. Give them a ring and they would be able to help with dealers and prices. The number is 01493745192. Rob
  19. why not look for a base range combined gps/FF ? They are pretty cheap these days and a lot less clutter on the Yak. My handheld gps packed up with water ingress even though it was supposed to be waterproof to ipx 7 standards, if had done it a week earlier then I would have bought a combi. Rob
  20. Yes me too I think, Ive just done the 8 mile school run across Hull and could easily have done more than half of it the Yak !! It was up to the sills in a few places
  21. Hake I dont know if you know about Volusians site www.kayakfishing.co.uk. ?? If not its well worth joining as there are a few yorkshire lads who post catch reports throughout the area, also lots of other useful yakking information too. There is also supposed to be a meet at filey this coming saturday ( weather and sea conditions permitting !! ) Rob
  22. beware on the east coast this weekend, the forecast may be for light westerlies but there will be a decent 4-6ft clean ground swell running. this rules out any open beach launches unless it is south facing to give you a bit of shelter. You might get launched ok at south landing at flamboro or in filey bay but beware of fishing under cliffs due to the backwash or in shallow water as a set of 6ft + waves would quite easily catch you out !! the best forecast for up to date swell info is www.magic seaweed .com Rob
  23. No mate the transducer temp is no good and has been damaged, it is still reading the depths ok after stripping all of the silicone off and testing the other day. After speaking to johnsons they confirmed that the newer US models have a newer different shape transducer bracket which is why it didnt fit, OK are in the process of designing the moulds for the new boot at the moment. the bracket on the newer transducer is a totally different shape. As I said it serves me right by trying to save a few pennies by buying from the US !! All sorted now though after a bit more expediture !! Rob
