  1. I think that ultimately the Government will have to buy out commercial licences in some, or all areas.
  2. So your main childhood memories involve rubber gloves. This could be an interesting thread.
  3. All hail Orri Vigfússon. http://www.icelandreview.com/icelandreview...w_0_a_id=290973
  4. People don't contact Councils to agree with their proposals, only to object. The fact that the Council probably received more objections than votes of support would be par for the course and means nothing. I agree that Councils should work in the interests of their ratepayers. It will be interesting when they announce whatever "practical solution" they arrive at, how many ordinary beach using ratepayers object.
  5. I don't think any outcome creates a precedent (except perhaps in Bexhill). This is a local Government decision, not national Government.
  6. "150 pages", "2000 anglers", I wonder how many of them even know where Bexhill is, let alone fish on the beaches there.
  7. Everybody I know with a breadmaker keeps it in the back of a cupboard in the kitchen, next to the Smoothie Maker and the Soda stream.
  8. The last time I visited the Cinema was to see "Reach for the Sky" with Kenneth Moore.
  9. The Taliban were Freedom Fighters when they were fighting the Soviet Union, with Western financial backing. The Soviets withdrew and the Taliban became heroes. Then we invaded Afghanistan in search of terrorists and found some.......... they are called the Taliban. Funny old World, isn't it.
  10. Oh No !!! someone has deliberately misspelt my username. Do they realise just how much psychological damage they do to me when they do that, apart from the searing physical pain. Oh, when will this torment end ? :sad2:
  11. That this happens in a supposedly civilised country is a scandal. I also agree that the Owners and Management of these places should be prosecuted as well as the actual assailants. I know we are not supposed to profile people, but I can't have been the only one who took one look at some of those supposed carers and guessed what they were like. With regard to the quality of the staff I think its another case of, "pay peanuts and get monkeys".
  12. Why can't they be three military planes in formation ?
  13. Once again the headline doesn't really reflect the truth of the story. Buried in the body of the article; "The issue here was about hand gestures being made in the shape of a gun towards members of staff which is understandably unacceptable, particularly in the classroom." So it sounds as though the little angels were being disruptive in class, which is a lot different than being in the playground.
  14. Its hard to make any comment other than, "well done Mate", without it sounding like sour grapes. Although I laud the catch and the captor, as that is a great achievement, I am surprised nobody has commented on the weight of the spawn that fish is obviously carrying. I have always felt a little cheated when catching a really good fish, only to find it is full of spawn.
  15. Oh come on, did anyone really think that was true ?
  16. I bet he doesn't get bullied at school.
  17. Perhaps what you think is the truth is a lie and the media is correct after all.
  18. The vast majority of people being lied to by the media (if indeed they are) wouldn't know it. So to them its not an issue.
  19. Why do people have to be popular for a reason ? She seems to be a decent, friendly person who has lots of friends to chat to, that some people find interesting. I can only spare a few seconds in my interesting life to comment on this non item.
  20. It might be worth doing if you could load the iPod with some useful revision, the actual answers would be even better. I would call that "initiative".
  21. Doesn't the scenario of people laying on beaches and swimming in the sea, while anglers cast baited sharp hooks and heavy weights among them, make you think its a generally unsafe and also a bit unsociable ? You make your case on there being no official statistics available , so its one of those situations where someone has got to be seriously hurt before any action is taken ? I think we are in danger of being isolated with this siege mentality. I didn't sign the petition.
  22. I admit to not knowing the specific ownership of the beaches in question, but I am quite sure the Council have "stewardship" responsibilities for them, at least the bits above the high water mark. If the Council are concerned about the real risks of injuries with swimmers, sunbathers, mingled among sea anglers, then they have a responsibility to do something about it. Not a lot different than having no go areas buoyed off from recreational sea craft. I am quick to protect our "rights", but common sense has to play a part sometimes. Its selfish , pointless protests like this that really make me wonder about the motivation of angling representative bodies.
  23. I doubt if Fletcher will start the game.
  24. Are you sure ? Trolls are quite adept at regenerating themselves.
  25. Marmite is too good for Johnny Foreigner anyway. :P
