  1. I've been thinking about getting a new carp rod lately and noticed this rod, for £49.99 the rod looks good and the fact you get a second completely free is great but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these? I was looking at the 2.5lb rods. Here is the link by the way: Banshee Carp Rod Thanks
  2. Sounds like an albino grass carp surely? Im guessing it was from a lake? The grassies i have caught often act pretty calm until they reach the net then go crazy!
  3. So yesterday i finally had a chance to fish for some bullheads, rain had stayed away for a week so my local ford should of return to normal flow. I left home at around 4 in the afternoon as i was only planning to fish for a maximum of 2 hours. This was my chosen swim and pleasingly it looked normal which was good: Tackle was as simple as it goes, small section of whip with 1.1lb line straight through to a size 20 hook (currently dont have anything smaller) with a bb to keep steady in the flow a couple of centimetres from the hook. For bait i brought along brandling worms and red wool. I snipped off a tiny section of worm and began placing it by likely looking rocks to no avail. I decided to get into the water and carefully lift rocks up to have a look for my fish, after awhile i found a lovely big bullhead under a breeze block, just as i was to lower my bait a motor biker needed me to move my bag which i stupidly left obstructing the bridge. Returning back to the water i found the fish gone but after a short while i came across another smaller specimen, i lowered the bait in right next to its mouth and got an instant take, FISH ON! the fight was pathetic (no disrespect to the fish) merely because of its size and the fact all i had to do was lift it clear and it was landed. On the bank it didnt look huge but none the less it was a new rod and line caught species for me! On the scales (my mums kitchen scales) it went 6g, a lovely little fish indeed. He was swiftly returned to the water and back under his same rock making sure to put it back into its correct position, shortly after i lost a smaller fish when lifting it clear of the water and it didnt help the fish being more interested in the shot than the bait. With home time drawing near i opted to try the breeze block again where i had spotted the leviathan earlier on. Under inspection a smaller fish lay in residence and after snaffling the worm a pb equalling 6g millers thumb was released to fight another day. All in all a thouroghly enjoyable session of just over an hour, next week may see me after 3 spined sticklebacks or maybe a stone loach which eluded me yesterday, hope you enjoyed reading the catch report! thanks.
  4. Whilst in Chemistry yesterday i was using the very fine detail scales and thought about these smaller species, doesnt Dennis Flack use very sensitive chemistry scales for his mini species? The majority are really expensive but a quick search on ebay brought these up for less than a tenner from hong kong, granted not as sensitive as most but for that price not bad: Chemistry Scales These could serve well for this style of fishing surely?
  5. Now just to save 4500 dollars, i wonder how many weeks of EMA and working a shift a week as a potwasher will that take me conditions are alot better today and if i can i might get down to the stream to take a look, hopefully it wont be too high from the recent rain and snow.
  6. I was hoping to have a walk down to the stream today after school but the snow is falling pretty heavily so that wont be happening. I have this Sunday off work as the Saturday is my 18th and i thought i might be a bit hungover so decided to have it off. If im feeling fine then i might go and give the sticklebacks a go. If that fails i can think of a small pool in some fields not too far from home which could house something small. Good luck on your trip to Kenya, one day i want to visit the Amazon to catch my dream fish, a Piraiba! Wanted to cach one for years!
  7. Thanks Vagabond i was hoping you would post here seeing as you seem to be the master at catching those most forget about. The only thing like the pole you mention that i have is a small whip, would use 1 or 2 sections of that do? Also what time of year would you recommend? I know a stream within half a mile of my house with sticklebacks in it, and i know a ford about a mile from that with bullheads housed there. Hopefully i can have a little adventure one weekend and add to the species list! Hi Elton, I really appreciate the offer if your sure then i would love to take you up on it, cheers!
  8. Thanks for all the replies! I had noticed that thread, that ten spined stickleback is lovely that sort of fish would make my day! Hopefully i will be able to catch some tiddlers. Also if anyone else is interested in the smaller species then i would recommend "The Little Book of Little Fishes" its a lovely book with great illustrations!
  9. Hiya thanks for that, i knew that method worked but can really count it as properly caught on rod and line? im guessing you can but say you caught a record fish in this way would it count when no hook is actually used?
  10. Hello I have decided that once it warms up a bit I fancy adding 2 or 3 fish to my list of captures. Instead of my usually Chub and Perch I would like to try some local streams for 3 spined Sticklebacks, Bullheads and possibly Stone Loaches. My question is what size hooks do you suggests? I thought I might use squats, pieces of redworm and bloodworm so would i need hooks around the 24 size? I fancy getting a pen fishing rod for messing about with little fish and would fill the reel with 1lb line and simply freeline the baits past rocks were the bullheads will be lying up and through the shoals of sticklebacks. If anyone has any tips then they will be gratefully received. Thank you.
  11. i will deffinately sign it, i think it should be kept to give the fish a rest and let them breed in peace.
  12. Well it honestly isnt as rude as it can sound . Basically when i was probably around 10-11 my cousin took a picture of me and for some reason drew onto it making me into a pirate, he gave me the name of Captain Pelvis and it just sort of stuck. Im 17 now so i dont greet people as it i much prefer to be called Pete. Thanks for the kind words, i couldnt find the fish easily that day so decided on a new feature to try so i guess you can say it worked . I have been fishing since i was about 3 and i have been brought up fishing some what traditionally, ive never used a boilie in my life so when i fish for carp its usually bread, meat or corn. I also dont use pellets that much but have began using them more and more. My dad doesnt use such things so i never did too yet i still get decent catches so until the day i stop having fish on more traditional baits im leaving the boilies in the tackle shop .
  13. dont worry i dont mind you fishing it on the 16th. come to think of it i think i have my AS exams around then so your welcome to it, if you want any info on what works best for me then pm me as i would like to keep the spot fairly quite if you know what i mean
  14. cheers for the kind words, we met at peatling lakes once. i reckon however that the swim at the very top of the fishery may hold fish bigger than these, i believe there have been 5lb chub and 3lb perch from it. Well if you really want to fish it June 16th then it will just be you as it really is too small for two people to fish at once, looks like i may have competition for the chub thanks for everyones kind words also.
  15. i wouldnt usually want to but the fact that it was the last day i wanted to fish two rods and using the bite alarm allowed me to fish the swim next to it with a float.
  16. thank you all very much and thankyou Steve Howard for scoring! Talking about next season i think i wont be fishing saturdays anymore as i really need a season ticket to the Walkers Stadium so i can watch us climb the table (top half of the table will do nicely and push for promotino after that). Regarding the cheering Forrest fans that will be the only thing they have to cheer about seeing as we will get an easy 6 points off them next season if they dont go down. once again thanks for the comments and fingers crossed come the summer months those PBs will rise.
  17. First things first ive fished this stream for about 2 years. no-one else does so the potential is not fully known but i began by setting myself a target to get a 4lb chub and a 2lb perch from there. i did however think both difficult as i hadnt seen a fish near that size in there, however....read on Well i managed to swap my shift at work with a mate allowing me to fish my favourite little stream on the last day (this is the same tiny 10 foot wide river i mentioned in a perch topic ages ago incase anyone remembers).I had everything ready on friday night so i was up by 5 and away bye half past, it takes me around 30 minutes to walk the mile or so with my gear to the river. After feeding a few swims with maggots and bread i settled into my usual swim as the sun was peaking over the horizon, float fishing maggot and ledgering worm to a snag. Lost a few good roach and had a nice chub for the stretch of around 1lb 8oz on the worm but the swim went completely quite and didnt respond all day after that. Time for plan B. I moved to a swim were i had recently had a quality 2lb 12oz chub and some 1lb perch (i actually mentioned this swim in the perch thread but until saturday had never given it a proper go). It looked really nice so i settled here. Heres the swim: I casted the ledgered lobworm tipped with a red maggot between the overhangs infront of those animal holes. i continued to fish with the float but still had nothing so tried a spinner and had a small about 1lb jack. Then i began having takes on the worm with chub of 2lb 8oz and 3lb 1oz and a number of perch too 1lb 14oz (what a result! best trip for along time and a new pb perch!). Then i had another small jack on the drop. Here is a picture of them both and how similar in size they are: The swim then seemed to go dead with no fish for a while. I just began dozing in the warm sun when a single bleep of the alarm and i was up and into a good fish. It went straight into the snags but after a tentative minute or two i got it out into open water, when it came up it looked huge to me! Obviously a new pb chub but i didnt know what it would go but it looked over 4lb. On the scales it went 4lb 7oz and i was absolutely delighted, it was a very thick and fat fish something i really didnt expect from this stream. Here are two photos: I was genuinely buzzing as i had caught a fish i had set out to catch and put in the hours for it. Now i left the swim for a while to let myself cool down and also let the swim call down, after no success for about half an hour and just one signal crayfish and a knock i decided to try the other side of the snag. i fed a few maggots and then casted out. After a while i had a good take and the powerful fish surged off, after a short but spirited fight i landed another PB! This time it was a 2lb perch!!! I had caught both my target fish in one day! i was so pleased with myself i decided to pack up as i was quite tired, running out of bait and wanting to listen to the Leicester v Millwall match (which we won 1-0 ). Well thats all for this season. Im very happy with what i had caught even though for most these are both fairly small but in my opinion for such a tiny unfished stream these fish were great. come the summer i may even try for a 5lb chub which is a specimen isnt it? Finally i have gone on abit and i apologise, here are just a few more pictures: My two PB perch the top fish is the very fat 2lber. The 2lber. Finally just me appreciating such a fine fish Apologese for the size of the images. I hope everyone else did well on their last day also, hopefully you will here more from me (and the stream) in the summer. Tight Lines. Apologeses i forgot to mention that it was free fishing!
  18. Yesterday i fished a small river close to my home and had a number of perch on lobworms of which the largest weighed 1lb 6oz. This fish was just over a foot long and was slightly on the skinny side. I was wondering if there is a general rule for perch and all other common course fish for length to indicate its weight. Thnaks for your help. Also whilst plumbing the depth i had a small jack repeatedly strike at the plummet it was quite comical.
  19. Hi i was wondering if anyone has read the article in the anglers mail this week about the possibility of a monster uncaught carp coming out of redmire to beat the british record. It says a 60lb+ fish has been spotted in the water in the past few years but do you think its possible? I would like to believe that an unknown fish could take the title from two tone and i would be interested to hear others views. Also in the article there is talk of a monster carp photographed by Eddie Price which was never caught and i was wondering if anyone has a picture on their computer of the fish as i would love to see it. Cheers and i hope this will be an interesting thread.
  20. hi i was wondering if anyone knew where to buy the strike pro flexX on the internet. Preferably a site from the uk which will post. thankyou
  21. the silver bream record is well over 15 oz. There is a fishery called mill farm were 1lb silvers are common and in the anlgers mail you see them quite regulary, the biggest is 2lb 1oz i think.
  22. i live no where near london but you are always hearing of big barbel coming out. I have heard fish up 17lb coming out.
  23. i believe they are orfe with no colour pigments in their skin. So like you get golden and blues you can also get colourless ide...i think
  24. I forgot to say that it is a tributary of the river soar in Leicestershire. I was thinking that last time i fished it i caught a few small roach (the smallest being about an inche and a half!) and then a 1 pound perch, this was the first fish of its size from this swim as its one i always count on if im nearing a blank. This is the slightly deeper hole with some trees draping over to cause some slack water behind it and stinging nettles as cover on my bank. As there are plenty of small roach i thought i could either cast a small spinner for awhile into the swim and see what happens and then try using a livebait. Also a little further down in my favourite swim home to the largest perch i have seen there (its no where near the 3lb mark as i have seen one of them and its not that big) and last session there were afew small roach reppeatedly jumping in one area i had fed with maggots and chopped worms suggesting to me that there are perch in the swim but these wouldnt take worm so i will try livebait there aswell. Im hoping to get out at the weekend if i have time because im swamped with coursework at the moment running up to the rest of my GCSE's Well i will see how it goes...hopefully to be continued.
  25. fished on saturday at the stream and had a few perch upto a pound. Bumped a better fish in a slightly deeper whole which is nearer to 2-2.5 foot. There are signal crayfish present but most of them are above the weir where the river becomes about 20 foot wide. There arnt any chub above here but i have heard of perch to 3lb but its fished fairly regulary and the baliff can see me there so i will have to pay lol, as my stretch is sheltered by trees no1 knows im there so its normally free fishing.
