  1. looks like the work of a croc to me!!
  2. Thanks steve!! Will let you know!! It is a club pool this, not overstocked by any measure, winning weights are usually around 20-40lbs even in height of summer!! It is filled with mainly crucians, large bream, some mirror carp and roach!! Will be going after the crucians on chopped work and casters mixed with fishmeal groundbait, they love it!! may also tempt some big lumps out of the margins with pellet and meat combo!! WIsh me luck!!
  3. I have a match on sunday and i am wondering on the effects of this weather on the patterns of fishes feeding. When practicing last week i was catching shallow on caster and pellet, however the weather had been light and warm for the past few days!! This is what is forecast for sunday's weather also!! however due to this rain, and the rain that is forecast for the next two days will dictate that the fish will feed on the bottom!! My question is come sunday when (forecasters say) it will not be raining how do you think the fish will react?? will they stay on the bottom throughout the day or will then move up the layers of the water if the weather stays bright and warm???
  4. My club have put a ban on them for that very reason, fish welfare!!
  5. i think the best thing yo u can invest in is a good beginners book by the sounds!! you don't want to go in all guns blazing buying this and that without the knowledge of how to use it as you will get to the bankside, not catch a thing and then decide fishing isn't for you and we will have lost you!!
  6. I am a memeber of some very good scientific journals, i will see if i can get any copies that are specific to your study!! They are more inclined towards human biology and physiology.
  7. Is this using the pellet waggler shallow?? I have had the sam problem on Larford in the summer!! I was speaking to a few of the guys after the match and they said that they always use it once they have been fishing a spot for around 1 1/2 - 2 hours and fish are coming up and the larger fish are moving to the middle of the pool!! I still cannot get to grips with the method to be honest, much prefer the pole for shallow work!!!
  8. Do you have a fishing license??
  9. recommend scouring amazon or a local book store for a decent beginners book and take it from there!! Also i cannot believe what you witnessed at a tackle shock, truely shocking, all the tackle shops I have always been in have always done their upmost to gain new customers such as yourself that will probably be spending a lot of money at their establishment while learning the ropes!! maybe try and go in again but state first thing you are a complete novice and don't try to confuse yourself or them by asking for things you have perhaps seen or heard you need to buy!! As for information on where you are swimming i.e. depths and best baits then I would attempt to find a local or better still a bayliff or someone who works at the particular water!! Hope this helps, any thing else just ask and the guys here will help you out (as best they can)
  10. the shorter hooklength means that there is less line (therefore time) for when the bait is picked up to the bolt effect happening with the weight of the feeder setting the hook. If you have a longer hooklength then the fish has time to eject the bait before the rig has had time to 'bolt'. In answer to if the fish get scared, it is difficult to say as you have to guage how well they are feeding, if they are feeding nervously - often occurs with bream then a long hooklength will allow the wary fish to pick up a single bait on the outside fo the 'feeding area'. However if the fish are really on the feed then a shorter hooklength is better as you will get a quicker bite as occasionally the fiah actually attack the feeder load and therefore you need to fish as clos to the feeded area as possible - on the method feeder i have got away with 2 1/2 inches frequently in the summer months!!
  11. you have a few options in my eyes: - shorten the hooklength - use a smaller hook/bigger hookbait, a lot of it may be tiddlers nibbling the maggot violently - use a heavier feeder to increase the bolt rig effect - don't strike too hard/at all you may be pulling out the hook, you may be striking at line bites, look for a positive registration on the tip, i.e. that it has been pulled around and stayed around or that the tip drops right back and the line goes slack!! - wind in a little more line once the feeder has settled to increase the resistance (be careful though as this may scare fish off altogether) glad to see you are using inline feeders, they are unriveled in my opinion as feeders, made the switch after using the method inline and then thinking why would you have the feeder anywhere else but inline!! hope this helps!!
  12. bye a tent, cheaper and more useful!!
  13. leigh sinton in worcestershire checks for a license when they come round and check you have purchased a ticket!!
  14. I think this topic has gone a little wayward with what i intended by the statement. I do not mind reading that drennans new cage feeder has a new swivel that will wipe your arse for you as long as the method/approach they have to fishing it is innovative. Once every blue moon something comes in there that I think wow that is a very innovative approach, however a lot of the articles are regurgitated. I do sympathise though that it is a challenge to get interesting and especially new approached to angling every month so fair play to these magazine groups for getting a piece every now and then that shows me how to change my approach to feeding worm that is actually new and not slightly different!!
  15. have you checked their website http://www.________fisheries.co.uk/ Also what are you fishing for?? Best bait on any water to start out would be maggots/casters/worm, catch you anything that!!
  16. well yes this would be a great idea!! i have a load of places around worcester that would happily accomdate us!! these would be big match pools in their own right so would throw up some big weights even for you janet my club may actually if i begged, got a loverly pool stocked with bream, roach, rudd, crucian and chub!!
  17. urm i would just like to say i am very much on the boat for this one!!!!!!
  18. I do not think this magazine does what it states I have been a subscriber for 5 years and I am now really fed up thay it does not improve my fishing as it states.......................................................................... .....................................................
  19. you could land a 15-20lber on 10 elastic if you are careful and have a lot of patience!! it may be a bit heavy though for small silver carp!!
  20. big beefy thing................ good for pulling big lumps put of the margins!! only comes with 1 top section though does it not?? would be a pain to keep swapping elastics and you won't be able to do this on the bank!!
  21. an angler is someone who uses an angle (or hook) to catch fish a fisherman catches fish in any way they can!!
  22. can you and have you ever frozen casters?? do they thaw out ok?? also what about maggots?? cheers and good night
  23. my friend has one of these and he finds it fine fishing beyond 12/13 metres and he is a little weed!! you will ghave no problem with the weight of it!!
  24. right........... you'll be better off fishing the 8-10 elastic due to the larger fish and this will not be too heavy that you will bump off smaller fish!! I use 8 latex and 10 latex for the majority of my commercial pool fishing!! you should therefore should fish mainlines from 0.12 (possibly 0.10) - 0.16 The bush will depend on how far you cut back your tip, you need it to be a little bit bigger than the elastic that is going in so that it can be fed in without touching all the sides. I personally think externals are better for power tops but each to their own!! As for connectors i use the fox match 'maxi' size for all of my tops!! Hope this helps
  25. I have recently been forwarded a letter from my club regarding the issues coming up at the agm this coming week! One of the lifting of a rule is to allow the use of boilies on our clubs largest water!! The carp in this lake already reach 25lb and can ruin your tackle if you hook in to one of those on match gear!! We play a lot of matches on this water and the general consensus of the members of the club is that of general coarse fishing and deffinetely not 'carping'!! The fish would surely put on extra weight if these baits are used frequently and will therefore spoil everyday anglers who use it for pleasure or on matches. I am posting this not only for a grumble but also due to wanting some more negative points to allowing these baits so I can argue them at the agm!! Thanks!!
