Hi, lets say you lost all your Stick floats somehow and wanted to get a new set to replace them, what would you look for ? and where ?, say for instance for rivers like the Trent and Yorkshire rivers and not for fishing rapids & fast water, I know it's had to say a good general purpose set, or even two sets, but I'm sure you know what I mean. I actually fish mainly in Yorkshire really. So I'm looking for ideas as to what to look for, present for my son and maybe I'll treat myself to a few too thank guys cya

Hi,"Every few years" was a example, I never ever needed to change more than once a year in 30yrs fishing, never got any breaks from bad line in all that time either. I change as and when needed, from experience. If your a heavy user who fished a lot and looses plenty of line, you might well need a change twice a year. but line these days is not too bad, lasts a while too. (treat it well and it lasts) Like you say, no point filling a reel with 500yds of new stuff, 400 off any old line will do as backing, unless your a clever guy who casts 200yds . cya

Hi, Never fished Cowthorpe yet... Intent to in the comming weeks when the temp cools off a bit. Barbel are the target, not a fish I've targeted before, been and had a look at the river, now to think of the best way to tackle it. ?? I'm told if I want Chub & Barble, it's stick float & caster, or halibut pellets on the bomb for the bigger barble !! Anyone anything useful to add to this advice.....??? PS, not fishing light with match tactics either thanks in advance Rob PS, what would you say a good barbel swim should have ? other than fish [wink]

Hi, I always forget the right way to take line off a new spool to wind onto reel, must be age lol, at least it's only a job I do every few years (replacing all the line)

Hi, For me the most pleasure in fishing IS getting down on the river, where ever that maybe. Never fished a commercial water in my life (48), had a go with the matchfishing when I was younger in the late 70s & 80s, which was always fun, met some nice guys, but the appeal of say "a fish a chuck" on some overstocked commercial never did seem like it would be a pleasure to me, (I'd rather have a blank on a river anyday), I've always avoided commercials, will do my best to carry-on doing the same. As far as stillwater v rivers goes, I can actually have a good day on a river and catch little or nothing & enjoy it, but not the same on stillwaters, I just love fishing rivers even if I'm only catching 2-4oz roach, I've also had some good days on lakes (not commercial) & canals too, but the appeal of rivers will always be No 1 for me. The thrill of catching a fish in a longtime fishless/poluted stretch of river is something I never forget, seeing the same improve over the years is nice too, Calder in W, Yorks, lower stretches being one close to home. cya
