  1. As above no worries, been catching them from boat, canadian canoe, and bank for 15yrs.
  2. Hi, If I can wangle it I may come up for a paddle, pretty new to yaks and haven't really had much of a chance to try mine yet, I also know a few good fishing spots at the top end of Windy.
  3. Minn Kota Maxxum 55 transom mount electric outboard about 7 months old and in excellent condition. Two good 85Ahr batteries + proper 3 stage mains charger. £300
  4. Paul, You're undoubtedly in a better position than anyone else on here to give Rustam some good advice on Mahseer tackle, yet you seem reluctant ? Apologies if you've done it by mail or PM.
  5. It's hard to sugest any specific rod without knowing about the species and the type of water, over here a general spinning set up for mixed fishing would consist of something like - 9 foot spinning rod rated to cast approx 15-45g Medium sized spinning reel, something around the size of a Shimano 4010 12-15lb BS mono or 30-50lb BS braid I find using longer rods or bigger reels for spinning to be a bit cumbersome and tiring. The above set up would be fine for general spinning in the UK where fish would generally range from 1-15lb in weight, ocassionally a bit more. I wouldn't fancy my chances of landing any reasonable sized Mahaseer on such tackle unless it was in open water and I was fishing from a boat. My Mahaseer experience only stretches to watching a couple of videos, they were fishing a fastish boulder strewn river, and were using catfish type gear - 10 foot 4-5lb TC rods and heavy mono on a multiplier reel.
  6. Rustam, I generally use Power-Pro in BS from 20 - 80lb depending on which rod I'm using and what species I'm fishing for. 65lb braid seems slightly heavy to me for a rod rated 15-40g, but there's no reason at all why you can't use it, after all 65lb braid only has the approx diameter of 15lb mono line. Don't be fooled by claims of braid being abrasion resistant ......... it isn't. If you're fishing a rocky river you may want to use a length of mono or flourocarbon as a leader. I have no knowledge at all of Mahaseer fishing but that rod sounds underpowered for such a powerful fish, unless you aim to catch the smaller ones.
  7. Hi Rustam, nice to meet you on here. As far as I understand it the line weight of a rod is a guide as to what breaking strain of line is recommended by the manufacturer for that particular model of rod. The casting weight is again just a guide as to what weight the rod is intended to safely cast. In my experience the casting weights of similar strength and action rods can vary greatly between manufacturers so are only a rough guide. Dave. (from other bbs)

  9. Any recommended camp sites ? Thanks [ 26. June 2005, 07:13 PM: Message edited by: Croix ]
  10. Cheers Stuart, I haven't been there since I was a kid, sounds like the ideal place. I'd love to see the dolphins too.
  11. Just bought my Yak and am in the process of buying and fitting all the accessories and safety gear. Once I've had some practice and got the feel of it on my local lake and river I'll be hoping to make the odd trip to the coast, can anyone suggest any usually sheltered and calm areas to head for, probably around North or Mid Wales. Not too bothered about the fishing potential at the moment, just after some advice on normally calm and safe venues. Thanks
  12. Cheers guys. Can't wait to get my yak sorted and give it a go.
  13. I see from the pictures that many of you use a black seat/backrest with a large pocket on the back, can anyone tell me the make and model of this seat please. Thanks
  14. Just bought my first yak, an Ocean Kayak Drifter. Plan to use it mainly for pike/perch/chub lurefishing on slow rivers and stillwaters around Derbys/Notts/Staffs area. Hopefully the odd trip to coasts once I get used to the kayak and get an idea of where to find sheltered water for beginners.
  15. Yes, the Broads and the Lake District are probably the exceptions (maybe the Scottish Lochs too) but around the midlands it seems quite a task to find many 'legal' places to boatfish. We fish a few stretches of the Trent and get away with it, but according to the club rules it's not allowed. There are some nice large stillwaters and res's in the area but are all strictly no go with regard to fishing from a boat.
  16. Why is it that so many UK course angling clubs seem to have such a negative attitude towards fishing from boats, many clubs around here have a 'No boatfishing' rule. I can understand it on small-medium size stillwaters but why not allow boatfishing on the larger waters they control, or the miles of virtually unfished (many unfishable from the bank) rivers. Maybe it's just around here in the Derbys/Notts area that this rule seems common, or is it a national thing ?
  17. Murph, If you ever fancy a paddle & fish on Rudyard drop me a line, I've lurefished it regularly for the last few years for pike and perch. I've always used my boat in the past but just bought a SOT kayak so I'm going to try that in the near future.
  18. And another one here ! My Orkney is going and a SOT kayak is replacing it. Mainly for inland fishing on lakes and rivers but I'm sure I'll manage the occasional trip to the coast.
  19. Cheers, some interesting reading there.
  20. Hmmmm, thinking more about this the Ambush may limit my options a bit. If I was to go for a Drifter or Prowler 13 Angler I'd still be able to use it on the slow rivers and lakes planned but also have the option of a bit of sea fishing on the odd occasion (weather & tides permitting). Couldn't use the electric outboard as on the Ambush, but then a bit of paddling exercise wouldn't kill me. Are there any large Ocean Kayak dealers in the midlands ?
  21. Cheers SM, Andrew's located one for me, going to have a look on Sunday. Thanks.
  22. Hi Peter, yes it's a good combo, I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it and could better use the money elsewhere. No doubt I'll regret selling when it's gone. Cheers
