  1. It's a falace with hooks on it.
  2. An event determined to happen due to chaos theory, an event that was destined to happen ever since matter was set into motion etc. It's a pointless line of thought to go down, but it's impossible to deny that it could be true. I'd call it luck, because it is so unlikely to happen, but it just might have been destiny ( i don't mean this in a religious way, simply as an event that has 100% probability).
  3. There must be an element of luck in angling seeing as there are so many variables that we cannot control. Although you could look at the universe (by this i mean angling) with a deterministc perspective, luck becomes redundant, you would have been destined to catch a specimen, or to blank or have whatever outcome you experienced. The concept of luck, or skill would be an illusion, even the perfect cast was destined, the slight rise in water temp etc. Probability and luck would only be human ideas, which themselves would have been destined to be thought up.
  4. Pound for pound i wonder out of pike or grayling which one fights the hardest.
  5. Would we actually be allowed to bring fly gear? If so, i may just take my 4 weight along.
  6. keep it, buy yourself a drink...or bait... I could have sworn the day ticket cost of the LIF was £30.
  7. Each member could be a member of a seperate club, and would guest every member throughout the year in return for a guest from each member. Every member would benefit. Hmm, i think the angling clubs may catch on and issue a limit on the numbers/frequencies of guests per season.
  8. You could just befriend people that are members of the various clubs along the kennet and then get them guest you.
  9. I found this season that the number of dace was greatly increased, and they were decent fish as well. It was a dace a chuck where i normally fish the thames.
  10. Picked up a great recipe for carp soup in a newspaper recently.
  11. Bleak are not illegal, they're under the minimum size and highly abundant, a tasty breakfast...it makes sense to dine at a lower trophic level...*cough* i mean *cought* a tasty deadbait...
  12. It helps to be natural when fishing for the chub. That way they can never be sure which rod is the real one.
  13. I think that for certain situations a flashy finish has certainly spooked fish i've been stalking. For instance I was commando style, on my stomach, crawling slowly within range of a group of chub this summer, on the loddon; edging into position. moved the rod to flick the bait to them and saw the reflected glare off of the rod in the water, at this point the chub spooked. The mere movement of the rod could have been the reason, but I'm inclined to think that the flash may have played a part.
  14. I always find it strange that we have lost our tradition of eating coarse fish. It's a great shame, especially seeing as coarse fish are much more efficient to farm than game. It's very surprising indeed.
  15. The cheque is in the post. You should hopefully have it in your possession by the weekend.
  16. If there are any places left then i'd love to come along and meet the regulars, even though my posting is fairly sporadic. I'd have pmed you rusty, but i can't find how to do so.
  17. I went flyfishing on the river loddon at whistley mill and managed to catch a small chub and a wild brownie. I was surprised that I caught the trout, I didn't think that they lived so far down the river.
  18. Sounds like a job for the WTT! sounds as if it could be a really productive stretch if the habitat was restored
  19. great blog nick, made me wish I was there.
  20. That 13pounder sure did give me a good scrap, and so did the 7pounder i had thge day before. The conditions are perfect at the moment on the loddon.
