  1. 32 people have looked at my post but no replies, maybe I have not asked the question correctly. I am try to find out if there are any spots along that part of the coast or near to it that some rock style fishing can be done. Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou.
  2. When ledgering with buzzers the first thing I do when reaching a swim I know, is place my banksticks where my rods are going to go, first the front one screwed into the bank then grab my landing net handle which has the length I need between the sticks marked with a wrap of electrical tape, lay it on the floor and put my back stick in, add my ready made up front and rear spreaders which have quick release systems fitted, put my net together, get a rod out ready made up and add bomb as required clip on ready made up bag and cast out the ready baited rig---- repeat 2nd rod.
  3. Only trouble is that it will not work with a swing or quiver tip until the line is actually being pulled from the reel, way to late !!
  4. Stretch out the wire spring from a push button biro cut into small sections fold over one end with a pair of pliers, this is where you tie the hair, screw into meat , Recycle saves money and boosts your confidence when something works. As for large chunks of meat, get a length of 50 + lbs mono or similar cut lengths 1 3/4 times the diameter of the meat and just blob the end with a lighter, whip your hook length up against the blob then tie using a knot less knot to make a hook length. To use push the heavy mono through the meat right up to the hook turn the end over and push back in until it vanishes, casting will move the hook slightly away from the meat and you get good hook holds.
  5. For skinning a dogfish or bull huss of the correct size :- 1 heavy duty gardening glove a sharp knife and a good pair of pliers just got to catch one now !
  6. I am looking for a bit of rock type fishing for gurnards and the like, but I have a few problems with walking. So nearish to a road would help.
  7. But its much more costly than a leg set.
  8. Phone, Looking at the picture I would say that the reference to HOLLOW would mean the same as BEAK. This bend would finally turn the hook into a circle hook if carried to its extreme. Most hooks used today lay flat but kirbed/reversed hooks like the Korum QM1 which are great ledgering hooks have that slight offset to the shank so that the point is NOT in alignment with the shank and cannot lie flat.
  9. I must admit that rods I used in the past did have screw in tips but I progressed to quality glass then mixed fibre and onto carbon and within that time Quiver tipping became the leading form of ledgering and swingers had taken a back seat. I still believe that in milder weather swingers beat tips hands down and its only when its blowing a hooley that the swinger becomes more difficult to use and then tipping comes for me to the fore. In terms of sensitivity the float beats all, hands down, then swing tipping followed by quiver tipping. That is with an angler doing the fishing and not the tackle as with a buzzer.
  10. I can add a few myself, Hook point Variants Hooks come in around nine point variants and all are designed to achieve different objectives. A knife edge point is designed to cut into flesh and bone, and is useful for most 'hard' mouthed fish. But they do have the disadvantage of cutting in and out. A needle point hook is pretty much what it looks like, a needle. Needle points have good penetration, but not as good as knife edge hooks. However, needle points do not cut once in the fishes mouth and are less likely to cut their way out. Barbless hooks are just that, and can be in any point variant. 'Micro' barbs are very small barbs that are mainly seen on small hooks for trout and coarse fishing. A 'short' barb hook is a barb nearer the hook point than on a standard hook. A 'beak' hook is where the point of the hook curves up towards the shank, in front of the barb. Kirbed or Reversed hook points are points that curve away at an angle to the shank. They are said to provide a better hook-up rate as the point does not get deflected by the shank. Most people call all hooks like this 'kirbed 'hooks, but strictly speaking a kirbed hook point bends out to the right looking straight-on to the shaft, and the reversed hook point bends out to the left. What I was trying to do was find out if there were any preferences or if anglers used hooks of variations when it comes to hook points as and when used for different contingencies. I purposely left the question VERY wide open so as hopefully gain as much insight as possible.
  11. RUDD , It has been known for an angler to use a swingtip on an alarm, when fishing a very tight swim. You put your alarm on a bankstick and place it very close to the waters edge in vibration mode, cast out and place the rod parallel to the bank so that the line hangs over the buzzer, it was used quite often on swims with rushes tight on both sides of the swim. And "wotnobivvy" most rods built today are made as quivertips and very rarely do you find one with a screw fitting, so my alteration saves buying or carrying another rod.
  12. And of course back again ! I have just read the article about swing tipping and as I do a lot of it I thought you may be interested in some of my alterations. http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/editorial/swingtip_fishing_rod.html To alter a quiver tip rod you will require a spare or broken heavy quivertip, this you will need to cut about 1" or 20 mm past the first eye from the joint with a hacksaw and clean up the sawn end with a bit of wet & dry. This is where you push on the angled rubber to affix the swingtip. There are also more than one type of swingtip, and they all attach in the same way. Long, Short, Weight changeable,Hollow and Night light. There is also a way to alter a Avon type rod but thats another story.
  13. What hook point do you prefer in hook sizes 24 to 6's ?
  14. Sorry to butt in but a paper clip makes a safe connector for a back lead !
  15. I do not think even I could class a size 10 hook as being a match hook ! The correct tyer for you and that size hook is the black matchmans hook tyer. As for the line I use, I would prefer to use BAYER PERLON and the nearest that I could find to match it is Reflo. Simples
  16. Could you add a Octoplus leg set ??
  17. Home made dacron for me. I like the quick release with the double knot.
  18. Phone, as the degreaser only applies from the butt eye towards the reel the fish never get to taste it. As for the soap i use Fairy lipsquid. 3 or 4 drops. As for pins when I go deep sea fishing which is rare these days I use a ALVEY and 20lb wire.
  19. There are a few angling organisations for the disabled , if you dont mind me asking where in this country do you reside? Blue Badge boy myself ! I use a chair with arms, with a Drennan baitwaiter one side and a two rod system on the other, not a bankstick in sight !!
  20. I use the Drennan(red) one for hooks from 24 to 18 old time sizes, and use the matchman (black)one for hooks 16 and larger - spade ends only with both. All pre-tied with Preston reflo power over the winter and put into little packets. Kept in the dark, in a wallet ,they last a very long time.
  21. Suggest you acquire Fred Foster's Swing TippingI learnt a lot from this book.
  22. Have a look at Bullock Farm, http://www.bullockfarm.co.uk/index.php near Clevedon. Dead flat, five lakes, -- look for yourself.
  23. I would also suggest a visit to a good model shop where all sizes of balsa can be acquired also the correct sealer's and varnish's to make them water proof. You can also get some very fine stainless steel wire and plastics. Amazing range of do it yourself bits !!
  24. Some beaut bobbins ideas from you lot, but I made what is now known as the stow bobbin using a BIC biro cap with 2" of the pen tube , that's the top end, sawn off , put a isotope into the tube, reverse it and glue into the cap. In those days there was no hole in the end of the cap so I had to make one and into that I would glue a swivel that I could use to tie a line to my bankstick. Not bad really 30+ years ago !! Add shot to the line as required to make heavier.
