  5. Strangley I have no sympathy for this poor abused lady. Why you may ask, she is a solicitor (and daddy too)and she would not be in this predicament, along with thousands of ordinary law abiding joe public, if her profession did not put their earnings above all else by causing exactly these circumstances to occur. See how quickly part of the cause of all this misery cries and moans when they get caught in a situation of her professions own making! Careful Newt you will start an uproar if you start suggesting that our carp are capable of dealing with dry particles, even if Fred J reported the phenomena forty years ago and suggested that it should work perfectly well for our carp and tench, over this side we have it drummed into us by those who know best to soak and boil any particles we use.
  7. http://www.cifas.org.uk/ What is CIFAS? What is CIFAS? CIFAS is a system for preventing fraud. It allows member organisations to exchange details of applications for products or services, which are believed to be fraudulent, because the information provided by the applicant fails verification checks. Members can also exchange information about accounts, which are suspected of being fraudulently misused or insurance claims which are suspected of being made fraudulently. This exchange of information is referred to in a notification clause on application forms and agreements. CIFAS does not provide a credit reference database. CIFAS only provides a fraud prevention service. How does CIFAS work? CIFAS information is processed by fraud prevention agencies who may also independently provide separate credit referencing services to their clients. The agencies are listed below. When a CIFAS member organisation identifies a fraud, a warning is placed against the address or addresses linked to the application or account. The text of the warning says 'CIFAS - Do Not Reject - Refer for Validation'. The warning shows the name used on the application or account but this does not mean the person named is involved in the fraud, as fraudsters tend to use a variety of names, some false and some genuine. The CIFAS warning therefore appears on the record of any person who has a link with the address. Any CIFAS member organisation subsequently checking that address sees the CIFAS warning. The warning does not mean the address has been blacklisted or the individuals living there are suspected of fraud. It means extra precautions should be taken to ensure the application or account that has prompted the check of the address, is genuine and this protects the address from further misuse. We are committed to doing all we can to prevent fraud. Thanks to CIFAS, many frauds are being detected, and this helps to keep the price of goods and services down. Who are the Fraud Prevention Agencies? CIFAS member organisations use one or more of the following fraud prevention agencies in the UK: Experian Ltd Consumer Help Service PO Box 8000 Nottingham NG1 5GX Tel: 0870 241 6212 Equifax plc Credit File Advice Centre PO Box 1140 Bradford BD1 5US Tel: 08705 143700 MCL Software Ltd Hesketh Mount Lord Street Southport PR8 1JR Tel: 01704 501001 Experian Ltd and Equifax plc are also credit reference agencies. MCL Software Ltd is not a credit reference agency How does CIFAS protect you? If your address has been misused, the CIFAS warning protects you from further misuse. Only CIFAS member organisations are able to see CIFAS warnings and they are very careful to establish the validity of any application for a facility, product or service made from the address. This may lead to a delay when applications from you are being processed, as the information you provide will need to be confirmed. However, this helps to prevent others misusing your address or other personal details, and avoids the distress and inconvenience this would cause you. What are your Rights? No CIFAS member organisation that receives a CIFAS warning from the system when checking your application or account is allowed to automatically refuse to supply the facility, product or service to you because of the warning. They are required to make further enquiries to confirm your personal identification details before making a decision. If they identify a fraud, they will not normally process an application further or continue providing a service. However, there are occasions when, even though a CIFAS warning is present and your personal identification details have been properly confirmed, your application will not be approved. This is because your application is still subject to the member’s standard checks and lending policies and you may not meet them. You may ask the organisation why they have declined your application or closed your account/facility. The member will normally be able to tell you whether the decision was due to a credit score, data recorded at a credit reference agency or their own specific policies. They should advise you which credit reference and fraud prevention agencies they used when assessing your application. You have the right to request a copy of any data held about you from the agencies. Credit reference agencies make available public information (e.g. Voters Roll, County Court Judgments), and payment history data etc. at a cost (at present) of £2. This also includes any CIFAS records they hold. You should contact them at the relevant addresses shown above. If you believe any of the data is incorrect, the details you receive from the agencies will explain how you can set about having it corrected. You may also be able to add a note to your record, which could help if you approach other companies in future. The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to request a copy of any information held about you by any organisation on computer or manual files. If you wish to request a copy of any data held about you on the CIFAS database or in manual CIFAS files, the address to write to is below. This will only include CIFAS data and not public information and payment history data. The Compliance Officer CIFAS 4th Floor – Tennyson House 159-165 Great Portland Street London W1W 5PA You should write, providing your full name, full address and date of birth, enclosing a cheque for the statutory fee of £10, payable to ‘CIFAS’ and 2 proofs of your identity, one from each of the two groups below. They will be sent back to you by return. One must be an original document, not a copy. It is recommended that you do not send your original passport or driving licence due to risk of theft in transit - send a photocopy instead. Group One – Evidence of Name Group Two - Evidence of Address Copy of both parts of a current UK Photo-Card Driving licence. Copy of both parts of a current UK photo card driving licence (if not used for evidence of name). Copy of a current full UK Driving Licence (Old version) – old style provisional licence will not be accepted. Recent original Utility bill or a certificate from a supplier of utilities confirming the arrangement to pay for services on pre-payment terms. Mobile phone bills are not acceptable. Copy of a Residence Permit issued by Home Office Original Local Authority council tax bill (valid for the current year). Original Building Industry Sub-Contractor’s Certificate issued by the Inland Revenue. Original Bank, building society or credit union statement or passbook containing current address. Copy of a Benefit Book or an original notification letter from the Benefits Agency confirming the right to benefits. The most recent original mortgage statement from a recognised lender Copy of a current signed passport including photograph. Original Local Council rent card or tenancy agreement. Original Inland Revenue Tax Notification. Benefits book or original notification letter from the benefits agency confirming the rights to benefit (if not used for evidence of name). How do I complain about a CIFAS warning? In the first instance you should write to the CIFAS member organisation that placed the CIFAS warning on the fraud prevention agency file or who dealt with your application or account. Their name is supplied as part of your file and they are responsible for its accuracy. CIFAS member organisations operate their own internal complaints procedures and can either send you details of the procedure or advise you what to do. If you and the member are unable to reach an agreement on your complaint, you should request a letter from the member confirming the complaint procedure is completed or exhausted. Sometimes this is known as a Final Response Letter. If you then decide you want to take your complaint further you may ask CIFAS to investigate your complaint. CIFAS will contact the member and review the details of your complaint. CIFAS does not have the power to recommend financial awards, but CIFAS will confirm whether the member adhered to the correct procedures. As an alternative, you may prefer your complaint to be dealt with by one of the industry complaint resolution schemes. The CIFAS member can advise you of the scheme to which they belong and the contact address. The schemes are: The Financial Ombudsman The Mail Order Traders Association The Office of Telecommunications (OFTEL) The Council of Mortgage Lenders The Finance and Leasing Association Arbitration Scheme The Factors and Discounters Association The Consumer Credit Trade Association Arbitration Scheme The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets CIFAS publishes a leaflet explaining how complaints are handled.   11. Having read his post with a touch of envy, I'd say the "anti's" had far more imflamatory material at their disposal to even warrant making a note of that comment
  12. I can't be the only one to have noticed the proliferation, on the web over the last year or so, of questions regarding the increasing use of mass baiting in regard to fish health and welfare. Most of the carp fishing articles advocate the use of a prebaiting strategy before fishing to encourage the fish to get on your bait or to attract them into the area, they then strongly recommend putting in several kilo's when you leave. One recently much publiced catch saw an angler using 40 kilo's of particles and boiles for a session lasting a couple of days. Over the years prebaiting has been a very productive strategy for most of the coarse species. A ban on prebating leaves the club with the question what is the difference between throwing your bait left overs in your swim and prebaiting for the next session? Maybe be this might be part of the reason and the club has decided to pre-empt any future problems?

  16. Having seen the way fish attack dog crap when its in the water I can only assume they take offence at the soap you use when washing your hands after.   17. I know of several English "smackheads" who supplement the diets they can't afford due to other more pressing expenditures with coarse fish!! Bet if you looked a bit closer you could find some too. The big clue tends to be the tackle, or lack of.
  18. Are'nt forceps surgical pliers? The average viewing public is ignorant, but not that ignorant! Do you not think all that sun, the maps, and the language might not be a giveaway to to even the thickest. Maybe we should also call for a ban on all programmes produced by other countries on the grounds that their culture is not the same as ours and it might confuse the ignorant amongst us!
  19. Email the EA and ask? Do trout anglers have catch and release matches, and if so how do they go about it? Your license covers you to catch trout and if as the club (depending on the EA's answer)you decide that for club matches they count go for it, your only problem will occur if you fish matches against other clubs on your water who's rules disallow it.
