    Fish I.D.

Could be a hybrid or Rudd ?
  3. If using pop ups on method have an anchor shot on the line just enough to keep the hook down but not wafting
  4. Same technique is used on a drift beater float. Brilliant type of fishing
  5. The lift method is where you have your float set at the right depth I.e about 10mm above the water showing and an anchor shot - aaa/ssg around 6-8 inches from the hook. This method you fish over depth and you don't want too much shot around the float just enough to have it sit up in the water. And to tell if you get any bites instead if the float going under it lifts up and lies flat - hence called the lift method. Try this link as it explaines it in more detail http://www.gofishing.co.uk/Angling-Times/Section/how-to/Coarse-fishing-advice/Fishing-Rigs/Search-Results/Float-Rigs/Lift-Method/
  6. Had it attacking me on the bus home , only notices when I had a jab in my elbow and then it started whipping its head about ... In able to upload image direct from phone as its too big a file but it was grey with a purple appendage - assuming what I was jabbed by. Thinking hawk moth caterpillar but unsure pic be up shortly
  7. I would keep at the little and often approach but have a larger amount of shot near your hook link if using one if not about 6 inces or so of grouped shot as it should take the bait down past the fry quicker , also mix in a few casters and chopped worm into your ground bait mix as will create a strong smell bringing in carp tench perch and bream. Also try the lift method. If you don't know how I can explain. Also try a bigger hook , yes you may get the tiddlers taking the bait off the hook but try larger baits too as fish are attracted to feeding so carp would eventually turn up into your swim along with the rest. By the way what does the swim look like ? Any lillypads or reeds around it ? Ideal location for tench and carp to feed amongst
  8. Rod and reel is ideal for perch but would recommend 10-15 lb braid and a wire trace if about 12 inches as canals can contain pike and you may get bitten off if you catch a jack without one 3 lb is too light a line for spinning
  9. Philocalist, thanks for the advice , I do use traces when spinning for the reason of pike being present in the swims , the shads you seen are from the SG range with the eels and some of the hard baits are within perch size and average pike as have caught a few greedy perch on the orange coloured and perch pattern . Others collected along the way. Trace material I use is 7 strand wire SG again in 40lb it's light supple and easy to knot. Best of all its thinner than other trace lines I have seen in the past . I have about 2 1/2 ft to 3 ft of it attached to the braid with an adapted stren knot - very strong join and near 100% strength. The shads have been bashed by plenty of perch and a few fatalitys to the odd jack pike loosing the shad after unhooking as too shredded - and the eels have had there fair share of interest. I don't regard myself a hard predator angler but do have the correct gear when it comes to fish care - long nose pliers , bolt cutters , fish mat , net , chinning glove
  10. Here is my lure collection - increasing in the next fee days to include a few poppers The ones I have mainly caught on are the softs - as why I am missing a darker eel due to a snag and a poor trace link , I am hoping to get a session in on Saturday wear mother is no issue now as I have a decent fishing coat and a little rain has never hurt anybody so should be ok This is just my small lure setup to 40g as easy to carry around in a small backpack
  11. The canal is visible for the first 1ft to 1.5 ft depending on weather conditions , and the park lake mentioned I have yet to visit
  12. Hi guys and galls , hoping to get out for a session spinning over the next few weeks and if possible any recommendations on where to give a go ? Was thinking about the Liverpool canal to Leeds and maybe on the Runcorn side but yet to decide as would have to be up and out early for the Runcorn session and cycling back with fishing along the way . Or have a roaming session with twitched sprat or static dead bait. Rob where would you recommend to give a bash around Liverpool ? A mate mentioned princess park doing both would work but travel again is the issue - canal seams the cheapest option as within 20/30 mins from home Any replays would be great and if anybody wants to come with let me know in a pm and we can arrange it for some point in the future
  13. I would recommend a new rod with a quiver tip insert as they have more back bone than a waggler and you will be able to see the tip moving a lot more as they are more sensitive. Also depending on the feeder types you want to use in weight. I am using cage feeders , method feeders and pellet feeders with great effect with the right gear. Tried using a waggler in the past and missed more takes and had to go fishing for my rod a few times as didn't see the take
  14. Get rid of everything and just tie off to the mainline no float no leader just a size 6-4 hook. 1/2 slice of bread folded in half and half again pinch the doubled corner push the hook in turn 90degrees and push into bread lightly , slight dip in water and gentle cast , had double figure fish this way on a 3lb tc rod and 10lb line . First time using this method I had a 22 lb 3oz mirror carp off the edge of Lilly's. only word of warning keep an eye on the bait !!! And be fast to strike when the line goes tight
  15. Thanks for the replies guys , I think I may just have to set out earlier to the venue and get the rigs made up there , home isn't much if an option as by the time I get home am too tired and end up being woken up by the mrs to go to bed
  16. Hi guys I am guessing the majority of you make your own pole rigs but if you didn't what makes do you buy from as the ones I get are cheap and you get what you pay for by terms of hook strength it's non existent . Would like some help as I don't get time to make any rigs at home with the kids now always taking a nose at what I am doing an having hooks tied to a line while a 14 month old is laughing about and trying to grab the line can equal pain for me either hook in the hand or worse her , any help would be great guys and girls
  17. Hi all does anybody make pole rigs as I can't get the time to make them myself and the ones I do use I end up changing the hooks over as they are either blunt or cheap and bend easily. If anybody can give me a rough price on about 20 rigs varying from 3 ft to 5 ft let me know as I am fed up spending more on cheap ones and good hooks - rather have them made properly by an angler than a kid in a sweat shop half way around the world . Thanks
  18. I use braid for all lure fishing , more sensitive to the angler as you can feel the action of the lure and any fish interested knocking into it , you also know when you have a take a the 0% stretch indicates straight away creating faster hook connection to the fish
  19. Steve I believe you are meaning F*#%ed over ? Had to keep it clean for the ladies and kids present in the forum lol
  20. Spro lures impirticular phone , one I have been looking at are the BBZ 1 Jr 6" floating - absolutely rediculas costs
  21. Hi Guys an Girls, is it just me or is the uk section of fishing lure providers giving us the short end of the stick ? I have been looking at the spro range inpiticular. £23-25 where as our American brothers and sisters have it for $19.95 !! How can this be ? A conversion of nearly 100% profit !!! And if try to import postage is an additional $15 makes buying them gets less of a kick in the teeth bit still ridiculously over priced for our market !!
  22. eBay it's 13.75 for about 8 pints if I can remember correctly and next day delivery , not had any delivered mind but been tempted a few times
  23. Doesn't really matter as I can get the power top kits to match I think depending on the pole , mainly for targeting average sized tench and maybe the odd carp patrolling the swims
  24. How long is it ? Cheers
