  1. The old ones are the best, Steve.
  2. A local Chinese takeaway serves chicken dishes where the texture of the meat is strangely soft and rubbery. Needless to say, we stopped using them and now order from elsewhere, but in light of recent discoveries it really makes one wonder...
  3. Well done, that man. A good-looking fish, Dave, and from your fave pond - you must be well chuffed.
  4. Barry's point is valid. Not only is the terrorist permitted to say what he jolly well likes, but despite the fact that he does overstep the boundaries there doesn't seem to be any sensible way of dealing with the bounder, and it's hardly sending out a clear message when not only can we not eject this man, but to add insult to injury he's provided with luxuries denied to law-abiding, decent folk.
  5. Tis more and more Orwellian by the day, old mate.
  6. Don't remember who wrote about it, but a popular angling writer's fave bait was a buadde - a bob-up-and-down dead 'erring - fished off-bottom.
  7. I like my 12ft Fox Avon Duos (nominally 1lb tc) for float-fishing when tench are the quarry. They have a nice through action, with enough steel in the butt for when you need to apply the brakes. They're not part of the current range, but they do pop up from time to time on that jolly old auction site (although not that often, which is probably a measure of their worth). I know it shouldn't matter, but they also have a lovely 2-tone finish that really looks the part. For your money, you also get a decent quivertip section with 4 push-in quivers.
  8. Nice one. What rod are you thuinking of getting?
  9. It always does if you use the Burgess method
  10. It leaves your other hand free to raise the dorsal fin, doncha know.
  11. I see that Go Outdoors are offering them at a tenner each, but if you read the reviews on that site, 2 out of the 3 folks who bothered to leave a review think they're bloody awful.
  12. ...and Stephen Baxter (Xeelee saga). The list goes ever, ever on, over cloud and under star.(sorry, Tolkien fans, that was crap ).
  13. I've snagged a download of it, to watch when I have time. Thanks, Ken, wasn't aware of this version.
  14. Ha! Great fun. Very satisfying when you catch it in a big area and torture it - I need to get out more.
  15. Tell us more, Phone. Sounds intriguing.
  16. The first and last ones for me. Great compilation, Dave.
  17. There's a similar site that a mate recommended for footy, but its full of little 'x's and as fast as you close them, they pop up again (well, within a few minutes, anyway). Gave up in the finish - the screen was tiny anyhow, and the picture quality so low it gives you a headache.
  18. I've always liked Massa, and thought he was maturing into a great driver before his accident. It's good to see him getting back to form.
  19. Really can't stand that arrogant prick Vettel. Come on Mark, stick him in the wall next time out, cobber.
  20. I felt the same way about Firefly, which had all the makings of one of the best sci-fi shows ever broadcast. Why it was canned after only one series has never ceased to amaze me - it still looks good now, a decade later.
  21. I think you'll enjoy The Wind through the Keyhole, Steve, if you haven't already read it. It's been a while since I read the original series; I just hope it's not one of those that disappoints on a re-read, as some do when the genre has moved on a bit in the interim, if you know what I mean..
  22. It would be remiss of me not to give a mention to the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, which I consider to be his finest work. Also the Otherland books and War of the Flowers, by Tad Williams. I'll shut up now - I'm even boring myself.
  23. I know the feeling - too many books, too little time - but you won't regret fitting it in, Ken, when you can.
  24. They're the books that Game of Thrones is based on, aren't they? Quite acclaimed, by all accounts, and on my (very long) "to read" list.
