I think the best way to send a message to the anti,s is by self regulation,its a sad day when angling is just about commercial interests,that spark, that made us love angling is being eroded by the greed of a few,In MAY the barbel become easy to see, gathered in a few inches of water for the spawning, they are also at their biggest size which would make them targets, I dread to think what would happen with people casting at these large fish when they are vunerable, also as people we should show respect to all of nature and give it a break

Firstly pick a stretch that has good barbel form,and then fish VERY accurately , maybe clip up to your spool to ensure your feeding always lands on the right line, if you keep this up in a variaty of swims on each of your visits you should have success, but the key on any large river is fish accurate

Hi Brian there is a fantastic aquarium called Aquarium du touraine near amboise on the banks of the loire, it has a fantastic display of freshwater fish including loire barbel.It also shows you their distibution throughout the loire valley. This might point you in the right direction.
