  1. Hi, Bacon. I have not been pike fishing for years but if my memory serves me right most of the canals that I fished had weedy bottoms, so I used a bouyant foam pumped in to my dead bait to make it pop up and the movement of the water made it wobble. And I agree with Rob you do need to have someone with you who has some experience it's better than losing a finger or two. Happy piking. Catch you later. Ken.
  2. I have to agree with you Peter, I get the right hump when I have to spend time cleaning up a swim before I can set up and start fishing, follow the country code take your litter home with you, and p-ss up a tree away from the swims. I don't drink booze when i'm fishing how can you land a fish safely when your full of booze, i've seen so called anglers rush out of their shelters when one of the alarms go of fall a-rs over head and land up on top of the pod, then they wonder why they blank so often. If your going fishing go to fish not to f-ck about, don,t spoil it for other people. Keep it clean. Catch you later. Ken.
  3. Hi Bill. Because 90% of river carp are cought at short range you will need a rod that has a nice progressive curve to handle a large fish, there are a number of rods you can use,tha make is not that important as long as it has no more than a two and a quarter test curve. As for reels the Daiwa 4550 bite and run is not a bad reel to use, or the Shimanos 6010 or 8010 all are good for short range river fishing. Rigs, I have found the Nash bolt rig to work well on the rivers. One other item that is handy to have with you is a carp sack, because river carp put up a good and sometimes long scrap, it is a good idea to put them into a sack and rest them before you release them back into the water. Catch you later. Ken.
  4. I use the oval plus it's ideal as a short session shelter ( try saying that after a few pints) it is quick to erect and folds down nice and compact. Catch you later. Ken.
  5. Instead of multiple mats Oatmeal carry a packet of antiseptic wipes, a quick wipe over the mat after it has ben used takes no time at all, what do you think. Catch you later. Ken.
  6. Peter, I never drink booze when I'm on the bank it don't mix well with water. Happy fishing. Ken.
  7. I would say between 6 and 7lb just one thing I did notice there was no (unhooking mat) on the ground beneath the fish. Happy fishing. Ken.
  8. Thanks Rob, I have asked the local tackle shops if they have any info on the lake not mutch help. I think I will just have to put in a bit of leg work, I fish Farlows lake a lot because it is just up the road from me so I will have to make a point of stopping of on the way and walk round Little Britton Lake for half an hour or so each time I go. Enjoy your fishing. Ken.
  9. Do any of you carp fishermen out there have any info on the Little Britton Lake in Ivor Bucks ie number of carp in the lake any info would be appreciated. Have a nice one. Ken.
  10. Hi Julian. I have fished Farlows many times,it is only a short drive up the A4 for me,there are plenty of features including islands gravel bars and the margins are worth a go as well. I always fish in death bay, I think the champion ship qualifying round is fished from the other side of the lake ie the factory bank moterway bank and smelly bank all of witch have a lot of open water in front of them, there are some islands that you can chuck a 4oz lead to, and it is well worth searching for the gravel bars. as for bait single hook bait, spod out a bed of freebies and sit on it. I have always had good results from the margins using a single hook bait with a handfull of freebies chucked in evey now and then. The method feeder has also caught carp if cast tight to an Island. Two seasons ago some nice mirrors came out one at 36lb 6oz one at 36lb 4oz and there are nine or ten ranging from 30 to 35lb, but it is a 35 acre lake so you have to work for your fish. Hope this is some help to you. Ken

Christian it would help if you told us where you are located mate.
  12. Thanks for all the info. I am thinking of getting a small boat to fish the swim, even using a drop net to land a fish may work o.k. but it may still be hard to release it back into the water safely. So untill I get the boat it's back to Farlows lake to see if I can nick a winter carp or two from there. Tight lines lads thanks again. Ken.
