  1. Pike. No contest. Got all Summer to fish for carp.
  2. Cheers fellas. I have been looking at Dave Lumb's site. They look the business. Don't worry Fenboy, I'm a big boy and I'm not offended. I have got a sense of humour in there somewhere (ain't that right Newt? ). Rubbed a few people up the wrong way myself on the 'net with some comments that to me had me in stitches, but other people read it differently. The rods I've got do the job, but I am a tackle tart and I want my name written on them in Tippex as well!! But they still won't stop me from being a crap angler though.
  3. So a scaffold pole with a tip ring then eh??? Thank you for you valuable input.
  4. Right then folks, I have been pondering whether to invest in a proper set of pike rods and I'm starting to look around. For the last couple of years I've been using 2 FA carp rods, but to be honest, I've never liked them. They do the job, but the blanks are too thick, they're too heavy and I don't like Fast Action rods. However I do have the confidence in them that I can strike firmly with them and they can handle what I have thrown at them so far, but I want a through action rod with a thin blank and light, 3lb TC and any make except Fox. So what do you recommend?? I wouldn't mind paying a bit more than usual, because they'll definitely get the use. Any info gratefully received.

    crayfish

I think that only applies to native crayfish as opposed to signals. I believe it's illegal to put signals back as they are a non -native species. I know my local canal has posted cookery instructions on their website if you catch enought of them.
  6. Bill, with every further reply they come out with, they look like bigger and bigger assholes. To sum up where their priorities lie, here's a Copy & Paste from their front page> " Story from London Metro SEVEN workers drowned in a pool of blood at a slaughterhouse, it emerged yesterday. Six of the men dived into a vat of livestock blood one after the other to save a colleague who fell in on Tuesday. A manager at the business in the Egyptian city of Jordan said: "The blood was thick and filled with clots, making it difficult to swim. That is why all of them drowned." An investigation has been launched. Keep On Fighting believes that there might be some justice in the world after all!" The last sentence sums up what these scum really are. Animals are worth saving, but human life is nothing. [ 15. August 2003, 09:44 AM: Message edited by: Beebs ]

  8. No plans as yet, but if someone offers me £5000 a season to fish my big pond, they're more than welcome!!! Numbers will be limited to 20. Please don't all turn up on the same day though. I gave my missus a go at catching some of them and she was well chuffed, she now wants to take up fishing so that's another one introduced to angling. !!! Excellent. I'll take her during National Fishing Week. I thought about asking Chris and Toad to come along and use their throwing skills to lob some groundbait in for me. I'm sure their right arms should have adequate muscle power after years of being smelly and single.
  9. I was using 1.7lb Ultima hook length!! Gotta give them at least a fighting chance haven't you. As for turning up with a stool, I'd tell you to flush it away and not to be so disgusting. Bill - I found it. Eventually. I take it that these Chris and Toad characters are the only 2 that turned up after their nationwide appeal. Suckers. Their website has never had so many hits as in the last week, but it shows how ignorant and pig-headed they are so as not to admit that maybe their approach was inappropriate. I can imagine these 2 friendless stoners sitting around sharing a joint, plotting world domination and the downfall of all meat-eaters in their student digs that mummy and daddy pay for, before finishing Uni with a 3rd and disappearing up the anus of anonymity, achieving nothing but being a pair of useless, irritating tossers. That's just my opinion of course and not representative of the owners of this site. PS, this is still Steve Sullivan, I've just changed my username. [ 14. 10. Come on Rich, you're only jealous 'cos I didn't save you a peg!!! By the way - koi carp, even of about 6 inches long can go like steam trains!!
  11. Bill, I just went to read the thread and I can't find it, maybe it's been deleted?? So much for their griping about freedom of speech. It seems that they can't handle reasonable arguments. I've been following this as it has worried me that these fanatics are targetting children. There is no reasoning with them as they refuse to accept any viewpoint apart from their own. I was worried, but now it's just obvious that they haven't got the brains they were born with. Apparently they are students from Brighton University. Obviously need something to do now the Summer holidays are here. No matter what evidence you put before them they will not listen. They're not interested in animal welfare, only in trying to ban angling. It's all very well saying that people should go out into the country and spend hours by the water, but to do what???? Unless you're a buddhist meditating for hours on end, you'd soon get bored and go home if you haven't got something to do. And as far as fish feeling distress and fear that's just completely untrue. Case in point, I have 2 ponds in my garden, one is 4.5 foot deep, the other 1.5 foot deep. I have been losing fish from the samll pond to a heron, so I decided to move the fish from there in to the big pond. Problem is it's very silty on the bottom and when you start netting it, a couple of tries and you can't see a thing. So I tied a length of mono to the top section of my carp rod, a tiny canal waggler and a 16 hook. Bit of bread as bait and fished them out. Caught about 20 fish out of there in total and put them into the big pond. 1/2 an hour later, went to feed them and lo and behold, the fish that had been caught less than an hour ago were up and feeding from the top quite happily. I was convinced before, but I definitely am now.
  12. It's funny that they whine about freedom of speech and freedom of choice then they make you have to register, effectively showing support for them in order to have your say. Not only that, I for one wouldn't want these extremists having my details. You never know what to expect through your letterbox. They are the ones trying to deny law abiding citizens the right to participate in a perfectly legal sport just because they don't agree with it. Like that Chris ******** said about letting kids know the good and bad side of the sport, when asked if after having both sides put them, as long as a reasoned decision was made whether or not youngsters would then wish to fish, would they then respect their decision? The answer - no. Basically, you can have all the facts, but you still aren't allowed 'cos some lettuce muncher doesn't agree with it. Freedom of choice? In a democracy, outrageous. This prick has had hardly any responses to his bull and has locked it up because he can't accept someone has an opinion different to his own and is prepared to challenge him on it. I too don't recall seeing any threats of violence towards him on the site. Still, the rest of their 'facts' and 'information' are bullshit, so a bit more won't make any difference will it??
  13. Get some bait mesh and put your boilie in it. Twist it tightly and tie it up with a bit of mono. Trim the end (not too short) and lightly melt the end with a cigarette lighter. Wet your finger and dab the melted bit to stop it burning too close. There you have it - one meshed bait. Air drying does make them a lot harder and you can get a Tracker air drying bag for around a fiver. I never ever bother with shelf lifes - I don't like all the preservatives in them and don't have the same confidence using them. [ 23. June 2003, 06:48 PM: Message edited by: Steve Sullivan ]
  14. Just spent a week in one at Les Quis and they are massive. Loads of room. Well impressed. The only thing I don't like is the pole that goes down the centre of the main tent can poke you in the head if your not careful.
  15. I recently got Badger's lumper barrow (not a barrow at all). It seems superb so far. Really low centre of gravity when it's loaded up and a decent frame to tie your bags up with. Chuck in pneumatic tyres and you can't go wrong for £25.
  16. Check out> http://www.rmcangling.co.uk for a list of their waters, Yately complex springs to mind. Willow park near Aldershot. Farnborough Angling club have Shawfields in Aldershot and Hollybush gravel pit that you can get on a day ticket. Farnham Angling Society have a stack full of good waters that are open during the closed seasn.
  17. quote: Greedy or what! [/QB]I've been finding, if they're feeding, they bite within about 10 minutes, if you're bait's in for more than 1/4 hour, chances are they aren't interested.
  18. Hi Colin, I've been fishing the Basingstoke canal quite a bit recently myself. The pike seem to be practically jumping out of there!! This Friday is a final piking session down The Royalty. Haven't had a fish out of there yet, but I'm confident for Friday. Hoping a 20 is coming my way. Haven't thought about the start of the seaon yet, the canal maybe, but more likely to want to get my trotting gear out on one of the rivers around here.
  19. Hi Chesters, I live about 5 mins from you (Aldershot) and am torn between FAS and RMC for next years season (member of Farnborough Anglng Club at the moment). I assume from your post regarding the Pike teach in that you are a member of FAS. One minute, I'm going for RMC, the next I think FAS is best. I would appreciate your input on FAS's waters. On the one hand, all of the waters are local and have a good selection of species to a good weight. On the other, so do RMC, and a 4 rod permit is available. Please help, cos we're about 2 weeks away from renewal day and if I don't sort it out soon, I'll end up with neither!!!!!! BABAR - as regards handling, don't pussy them around. If you're in 2 minds, don't go, cos chances are if you don't know what you're doing, you'll do more harm than good. Go with someone with experience who'll teach you how to rig up, when to strike and how to unhook and handle them. If you're going to go anyway, put the pike on its back on an unhooking mat and slide your hand under its gill covers and gently pull its mouth open. Then, you should be able to unhook the fish from there. But I would STRONGLY advise to go with an experienced pike fisherman for a good few sessions because you'll see first hand how they handle them. [ 10. 20. You can also buy them online on the EA's website> environment-agency.gov.uk/subje...399730/?lang=_e
  21. I've never understood the mentality myself. When I go fishing, I don't want to sit among old carrier bags, discarded line and drinks bottles and wouldn't want anybody else to sit amongst my rubbish. The bivvy tag is misleading and also untrue. I use my bivvy for session fishing and always clear my mess away. You see just as much litter from day session anglers. Or maybe that's just the waters I've fished.
