    Trolleys

would like to see more input on this subject my self as I was toying with the idea of buying a trolley. To hear you talking about it tipping over at the slightest bump, sounds like my box that I use that has built in wheels. Are they a answer to all our prayers for transporting our ever increasing amount of tackle or are they every bit as awkward as simply loading yourself up like a mule?
  2. mick you lucky so 'n' so(or talented person) , it only took me fifteen yrs to catch my first tench and it wasn't nearly as big as yours . now its my fish of choice too. Dread to think how you managed without a landing net though, but I hope your early success continues and you go from strengh to strengh ...and I can only re-itarate what has already been said "you have to start somewhere" we all did and I have to say on a personal level you could not have discovered any better source of information than this site , so keep posting, keep asking and keep learning, I know i do and many others to, and soon you'll be helping other new anglers too
  3. you know what!! all this talk of natural and unnatural is making my head spin so hows this for an argument? You don't get more natural than evolution. fact - 99% of all the animals that ever lived on this planet are now extinct. Thats evolution for you . millions of animals have evolved from the fish in the sea. One of those animals is man. Yes we have the highest intelligence on the planet (eligidly). So what!! An ape can use a stick as a tool to pick ants out of a tree perfectly naturally (no human intervention here at all) A man can make and use a gun a computer a fishing rod ect ect ...to me its no less nature than the monkey using the stick, our understanding may be higher but there was no body interveening when nature let us evolve that way. like it or not we're all still part of nature and any intervention with the rest of nature is still nature, just the same as a spider "interveens" when it kiils a fly or a killer whale plays with a seal pup (just for fun)and if we all kill ourselves one day well guess what? thats nature for you. fishing, domestic cats, feral cats, culls, ect ect ---all nature. politians, and the people that make these laws ---nature (backward evolution )
  4. mmmmm....back to the poles again...if you check out my other post back in march, it may help you to understand my dilemma. http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...ic;f=1;t=012697 After asking for advice on A.N. I'd come to the conclusion that a whip would be more suitable, however now I'm not so sure. would a whip be as easy to place your end tackle exactly where you want it as a pole? and is there much difference between a normal pole and a margin pole? and after seeing poles costing over £1000 am I going to get a reasonably good pole with my measly 100 quid? If whips are not as accurate as poles, what are the benifits of a whip over pole? a whip must be able to offer something that the pole cannot or surely there'd be no demand for such a tool?
  5. thx to everyone who replied to my post thats certainly given me plenty to think about and to try and put into practice on my next outing ...will let you know how I fared
  6. thats exactly half the price we have to pay at our store yikes?
  7. Sounds like one of the worst Idea's i,ve ever heard of ! I can Imagine the marketing now. " get the most out of your fishing, theres no swans to bother you, no ducks, no kingfishers or herons infact thers no wildlife at all. theres no natural baits and no scenic green areas for you to take in while you fish. All of our fish have been brought up on exactly the food as you presnet on your hook bait and so catching the fish is so easy its boring! " why oh why oh why would you
  8. I'll look in to your suggestion to thornaby angler sounds like a good buy , although the other suggestive party recommended I go for an eight metre one, any thoughts?
  9. thx for the advice klienboet I've just seen a nice cato'nine tails, with a hook on each tail reckon that should improve my catch rate no end
  10. Do you think groundbait is essental in all of this? because I hardly ever use it and , honestly I'm never really convinced by its effectiveness over free offerings. and also if the fish are not on the bottom and the grounbait is again I don't see the point? Is it also fair to assume that if your fishing for bream or tench or barbel there always going to be on the bottom?
  11. Ah-haaa now maybe i'm entering another learning curve. quote: you must start of on the bottom (even laying on), and then shortening the depth by an inch every 20 or so minutes, until you begin to get bites. thats something I've come across a couple of times as well and something I do not do. (mainly because I do not understand the theory behind it). If your getting bites from the off would you still shorten ? If they were not feeding at all how short would you go? And why would you do this? Sorry for all the questions but like I said this is an area that I feel I have been going massivly wrong in and as you can see am very ignorant in this part of the sport  .
  12. Ok firstly let me apologies for going over old ground because I posted something similar not too far back asking advise on whips. Only now I've actually got the cash to buy one and would like to know which you guys 'n' gals would recommend? I've been reliably informed (I hope) that I should try to buy a whip that is sectioned as opposed to telescopic and that some now come with two tips, one that can be elasticated.(power whips I beleive). I was thinking initially for canal work, however I also fish two or three fisheries that hold a good range of fish (and I mean everything including carp "barbel" tench roach perch chub orfe rudd ect ect) most of these species grow to a good size too. So, baring in mind that I'm a complete novice when it comes to the whip and have never ever used one before which whip do you recommend, and how strong are they? what the maximum size of fish I could expect to manage on a whip? my budget is between £100-£150. I'll return regularly with interest at your replies thanx -------frodo
  13. well that reminds me of another old joke I'm afraid... What the difference between a schoolboy and a fisherman .... one hates his books the other baits his hooks
  14. horses for courses I say...why do people like old motor cars (classics in fact). For the same reason people like old fishing tackle , rods and reels esp(again described in some cases as classics). Theres something of the rustic charm about them, and of an age gone by and I for one would give anything to have my orignal first rod, my intrepid, even though it was like wielding a sledge hammer. And my first basket and my bits of old tackle right down to the little rusty tin that had gold spade end hooks in (20's), and my selfcocking peacock quill floats passed down to me from my grandmother. Its nostalgic and chris yatess passion for angling captures a little of that essence too I feel. It might not be for everyone for sure, some want to have the latest most modern equipment and matchfish with every new gadget available, just as some people prefer plastic fantastic motorbikes to an old norton. But some pleasure anglers like to do just that, fish for pleasure, at a more leisurely pace, perhaps even feeling for a short while that they are in happier days...who knows? like i said ...horses for courses.

    in the eye!

what do you call a fish with no eye........ a "fsh"
  16. true enough I suppose, but we're back to throwing a few maggots in at regular intervals....It just seems theres so much more to it. I mean...what if there not feeding do you still chuck i loose offerings? will those offerings remain on the bottom till they start to feed again, and if so, will it have piled up so high that they all eat there fill and stop eating again? someone the otherday on another site when I was asking about whips, suggested using one of the new power whips on the river and then changing to stick float or wagggler "when your swim builds up". It sounds fine in theory its just that in practice its never been my experience that that happens. So I can only conclude I'm doing something very wrong. I get the principle but I do not have the Know how
  17. Hi everyone, ....did ya miss me?....nah? oh well thought not....anyway, I've heard many people talking about building up a swim. And more than regularly chucking in a few maggots , I'm completly lost. How'd you go about it. lots of groundbait? lots of food? Iknow your supposed to get the fish into a feeding frenzy, I just don't really know how to do it and i reckon that that may have a lot to do with my poor history of full keepnets. more than ten fish in a day is as rare with me as rocking horse manure. I feel like I'm in the dark about this one so any help would be very gratefully recieved , thank you
  18. did someone mention my uncle bilbo
  19. maybe its his secret bait ...fags for fish ...get em addicted and hey presto fish every time
  20. it wouldn't surprise me at all ...probably explains why when ever he's on show, his chops are constantly chewing gum ..maybe to help with the craving?
  21. some people just can't stop carpin'
  22. hmmmm.....been hearing a lot about mr braddock in the last few days. first time I heard his name was on easter monday, chatting to another angler. To my shame I must confess I'd never heard of him before . So i looked him up on the w.w.w. and found braddockbaits.com, and low i see he's written for yours truly anglersnet...then I find that this brasem thingy that I'd never heard of and questioned is "his" product ...for catching bream..and I hear of perch magic and others ...and when I look in my tackle box I see a bottle of chub magic and bream magic made by....you know who....seems to be making hinself known to me just lately he does So whats the difference between his "brasem" and his bream magic then? and does he make tench magic? and can he pull a rabbit out of a hat?
