Of course we only have KB's version of what the woman said, and he has ample form in simply making things up as he goes along to suit whatever case he is trying to make. Point 2, Decimation means removal of a tenth, it was a Roman punishment for mutinous legionaires. 1 in 10 would be killed as an example to the others i.e 10%. It doesn't mean wholesale slaughter of large fish by otters. And seeing as how there were no decent size fish to catch in the pond - I stand by my statement!

As far as the stocks being decimated (in that lake only!!) When I fished that last, I caught 4lb+ fish with ease. Now EVERY fish in that pond is under a pound. You don't have to kill ALL the fish to decimate a lake - just the big ones!!!

My simple answer to this is why bother! There is only so much you can do - The excuse that there was no warning will be solved very quickly as all they will do is stick up a sign saying "unmarked cars with cameras and mobile speed cameras operate in this area" at all the entry points in London! Dales I agree that there is no such thing as free lunch. However, the government decided (in their wisdom) to intervene (WHY?) and leave us ALL in debt, they also pumped OUR money into Northen Rock (WHY?) and now show obscene losses. How come, with all the money pumped into the bank, and, with the government's "guidance" they made a loss!! I think they need to employ somebody from HSBC!!

Sorry for not answering earlier - being a carer is not all beer and skittles - but I have to answer re. the Reepham Fisheries. We were there earlier this year and when we arrived at the fishery we discovered that the lake nearest the chalets was overgrown with reeds, when I asked I was told that the lake had been visited by an otter and the stocks in the lake had been decimated and it had been decided that they would allow the reeds to grow and close the lake temporarily as the fish that were left were "traumatised and terrified". However if I wanted to use the lake go ahead. I did try, but the biggest fish in there was about a pound! I then noticed that the fencing around the property had the bottom two (three?) strands electrified and was told that it had been supplied by 'the authorities'. If I misunderstood what they said, I apologise. However, it must be noted that as a commercial fishery they cannot afford bad publicity, but that particular lake affected is not open to the general public and all the other lakes are fine , and productive!

Can somebody who knows about high finances please explain to me why Barclays and HSBC can make obscene profits, while Northen Rock/ LloydsTSB (which we own a percentage of whether we like it or not!) makes obscene losses - or is it nothing to do with high salaries and pensions for failling?

It was an Otter - It was caught and released OUTSIDE the fishery (once the fence was up )

I am afraid that I have to play devils advocate here - Being disabled and unable to get to most of the rivers as my my ability to access them is limited. I visited Reepham fishery for a week in June and one of the lakes were closed (the one nearest the chalets). When I asked why, they said an otter had got in and killed the fish Willy-nilly (not just to eat as there were dead fish all over the place). Now I don't know if stocked fish are "tamer", but stocking otters near commercial waters , without notifying the fisheries is unwise. There is a grant available to fishery owners - the idea is that they can install low level electric fences which does NOT affect people, but deters otters! By the way, as one lucky enough to have seen otters in the wild they ARE lovely!!! (but then, so are Mink!!)

Sportsman, I am suprised, you always seemed to be a 'you are what you get' kind of guy. If you bothered to look at the subtitle of the thread (which you obviously haven't done) you would see that I started this thread as another thread got hijacked with this subject! Alan Stubbs, Seeing as you "want PROOF" of the bible (which learned people have been trying to do for about 2000 years, why don't you google "the Bible" and find out. You might even learn something!!!!!! Seeing as how the Bible is the best selling book for two centuries!! Sportsman - Why don't you read the posts - I am merely standing up for my beliefs, I will not have the Bible called a "fantasy book" when it is being studied by experts all over the world (still!). People then (wrongly) accuse the Bible of causing all sorts of horrors when the old testament tells of the sharia law (which is still practised by modern day Islamics) and the new testament tells you not to! The Bible, whether you read it or not, is a book on etiquette, on what to do on certain occasions. Wow!! - To all the people knocking my facts - WHAT ARE YOU SCARED OF!!! Youy have to be!!!! I stated that I had bought a door bell (not modifyable, but sealed!) and used it through all weathers for about 2 years without incedent. Then I had the bell ring, the following night my fire alarm (electric - fitted by the housing association) went off and after checking everywhere, there was no reason for it to do that. Then Brenda's guide dog was put down and, because I am not afraid of something I don't understand, I asked Ingwe to tell me when the dog arrived. The bell rang. It had not gone off before it happened, and has not gone off since!! But you all make all sorts of stories and say I have lost it. WHY?? I repeat - what are you scared of. Emma - again you have proved your ignorance - READ the Bible - the old testament tells people what the countries were like BEFORE Jesus arrived! The new testament shows, very much like you guys, that they had to destroy something they didn't understand! Jesus said in probably his most important dialogue "A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you!" The only thing in the New testament that is a bit suss is Revelations, which Jesus had nothing to do with! But instead of closing your minds to it, ask someone who knows - they will tell you the facts and, unlike mormons and SDA, they won't ram religion down your throat. Just to show how you are. A posting "cat or dog?" has appeared for you all to knock!! Big cats can hide right next to you and not be seen! How many have been released into the wild? But you will not accept until one has been KILLED to give you final proof, and even then will say it is a fluke!!

And it would appear that you are STILL in denial, you are putting the bible as a comic book - yet archaelogists have uncovered the tombs of some of the main characters in the Bible, they have also uncovered PROOF of their reign and what happened to them. Sorry to disapoint you with your (to you) well reasoned explanation. Ingwe had had an operation about a year ago for a cancerous cyst on his ear, it left an unusual scar on the ear and as it was the same vet that put him down, there was absolutely no chance that the cat was not the "right" cat! The plug-in bell push was bought some two years ago and had NEVER gone off without Brenda ringing it (and that is through electrical storms etc.) so how come just at that very time that he no longer was with us and just when we asked him to tell us when Wheat arrived? Coinidence I DON'T THINK SO!! Jemma2 Thank you for finally showing your total ignorance in your posting! You said that the Bible was a trashy fantasy novel. By doing that you have just called every archaeologist, every historian and every believer a liar! The Bible mentions Nebuchadnezzar, Herod, Saul, solomon and many others that have been PROVED that they lived! Yet you say it is a trashy novel! I don't need to say any more you've said it for me! By the way - please enlighten me where Jesus, the Disciples or anyone of the true prophets call themselves WIZARDS as you say it comes from the Bible!!

All this talk of Wizards - where does that come from? Small minds that cannot comprehend that WE are NOT the end all and be all of the Universe? People that will believe in wizards, but not in the afterlife!! Now, I will tell you something that I have told nobody else - As some of you know, I lost my cat a short while ago, and we lost Brenda's retired guide dog las week. I bought an electric plug-in door bell so that if Brenda needed me she could ring the bell and I could do whatever it was that was needed. the evening of the day Ingwe (my cat) was put down, the bell rang without Brenda ringing it! It happened again the following day when we had visitors. That night my fire alarm went off and I checked and the house and all was normal, so said out loud for the cat NOT to play with the alarm system as that was scaring me. The next morning the bell went off again! Now I bought the system sealed with a 'ding-dong' chime, but this time it went off with a Westminster chime! When Brenda's guide dog was put down, I asked Ingwe to ring the bell when wheat arrived. I had gone to the shop and as I got back and walked, in Brenda was talking to neighbour who had 'dropped in' - the bell in the bedroom rang! and the neighbour heard it. We have a young lady clean the house for us and she house-sits when we are away. When we got back from Rheepham she told us that the little cat we have (the only one left!) had gone 'walkabout' so she asked Ingwe to chase her into the house. about 30 seconds later the little cat came screaming into the house, just as if something was chasing her. Jemma (the young lady) said "thanks Ingwe" and closed the door! How did this happen?
