  1. I have recently joined a new syndicate lake in shropshire it is an old silty estate lake i have done a few sessions but so far only caught tench and bream. I have lots of ideas to try but dont have any experience on this type of water any more tips and hints on what rigs, leads etc to try and get amongst some of the lakes big 30lbers would be appreciated. The lake is around 4 acres in size mostly silty with a few raised gravel bars depth are between 3 and 12 foot one bank is also unaccesable due to the overhanging trees and snags.

    Sturgeon

because they can be a nuisance fish taking the bait before the carp get a chance too this happens mostly in lakes in france and other countries where the sturgeon grow pretty big where did u catch yours from they arent very common in the uk
  3. try 12lb in daiwa sensor its thin and good all round line also one of the cheapest on the market im using it on my xte's one spool will do two reels easily
  4. i have fished it a few times theres loads of doubles ive had fish to 16lb mainly commons also seem to get most action between 4 and 10 am. i usually fish the dam end has been more productive for me. www.poolhallfisheries.co.uk dont think you will arrive and catch a 20 like that tho youll probably catch alot of smaller ones first unless your lucky.
  5. look in this months advanced carp fishing towards the back there a big piece with loads of photos
  6. Dave lane doesnt actuallly have loads of time on the bank like every one thinks he does he runs his own decorating bussiness or something like that any way
  7. Its just the way it goes i suppose dave lane is a bloody good angler and puts alot of thought in to his fishing i think he was as surprised as everyone else to catch it that quick but by observing the lake finding and fishing the right swims at the right time he deserved it. Ofcourse a little bit of luck always helps too.
  8. Cracking looking fish well done
  9. Yep ive watched the video severall times thought it was very interesting and yes it did make a difference to my fishing the first sesion i did after watching made me think about what was actually happening under the water. Of course there will be differences between waters the fish in horseshoe arent the most clever carp in the country but its similar to a water near me thats full of tench and they are a bugger to get through to start catching the carp but i definately recommend people go out and buy this the video its just 17 99 for two 2 hour tapes and its one of the best made carp vids out i wasnt a big fan of danny fairbrass before i saw this but have changed my views on him since seeing the video.Get out and buy it.
  10. ive recently had a pair of 10000xte reels not had a problem with them they must have been a dodgy batch but even if they did go wrong i wouldnt worry to much if you send them to shimano they will normally repair or replace them all you will have to pay is the p&p. A freind of mine had a problem with one of his big blues before christmas and shimano replaced it.
  11. I use the same rigs in the winter as i do in the summer to be honest stick to what you no works im currently catching a few fish on my new favourite rig. Im using a blowback rig tied with a fox series 5 (longshank) and 25lb sufix stealth skin i use the nash rig rings cus they seem to be the best around. i had a cracking 23lb 8oz common just the other week on this rig.
  12. if you want some bargain alarms get the micron m's there about 19 99 each very good name and very reliable they dont stop working if they get a bit wet like most of the cheap ones that get full of water and stop working which could be a major problem if your fishing a nite.
  13. i use 25lb bs sufix stealth skin in winter and summer as my main hooklink material but i also recommend the maxima chameleon mono use what ever breaking strain you think you need for the situation i generally use 10lb bs i also carry some 12lb drennan double strength for zig rigs. Dont think fish only feed up in the water in the summer fish a popup mid water in the winter and you could catch a few fish let us no how u get on.
  14. What type of waters are you fishing. Deep water, Shallow water high stock or low stock it will affect the fishing let us know and ill try and help. Give as much info on the water as you can if you dont no much about the water do some research.
  15. hi stevie if your in birmingham you could try cuttle mill at sutton coldfield its day ticket but you will have to book in advance its only a small pool but its full of 20s. Another place to go if you want runs is calf heath res in cannock just of the A5 but you will have to get a season ticket go down and speak to the balif he is an old chap you cant miss him. He walks around with a fly rod catching carp on the surface with dog biscuits its £13 pound a rod for 12 months. there is loads of doubles and a few 20s my best is an 18 pound mirror from there caught on my first session down there during spawning last summer.
  16. Where about in the midlands are you mate i might be able to put you on to a few places.
  17. I wouldnt worry about blanking a few times mate thats carp fishing for you. You just have to be patient and you will get on them eventually. I dont seem to be able to get on them myself at the mo the tench keep picking the bait up before the carp get a chance.

    Snags

I have a similar situation at a lake that i fish where there is some trees and large roots in the centre of the lake i use the same methods as simon said but obviously you cant use a light hooklink in this situation i use kryston snake bite in 25lb bs so if the fish does get into them snags you will have a good chance of pulling it out. And sometimes they do get in to the snags no matter what you do.
  21. does it have to be a softbait i always keep a bag of pelzer baits matrix halibut pellets handy there very cheap and come ready drilled so you can put them straight on the hair they come in quite a few sizes to but they are hard.
  22. if your talking budget carp rods the tfg intruders are much nicer than the warriors ive got a pair and there crackin only 50 quid each http://www.totalfishinggear.co.uk
  23. Ive just started using the esp mono mainline in 15 pound its excellent
