  2. Good Luck Paul. I had it done about fifteen years ago and have never looked back since. Bloody surgeon snipped a neck tendon by mistake   Cheers Scapa
  3. Geordie’s Lamp. Peedie Geordie was standing at the bar of the Merkister Hotel when an American angler came in and stood beside him. Geordie being a friendly chap looked up and enquired how the fishing was going. “Well just great” said the American. “Do you know that yesterday I caught a sea trout that was four feet long!” “My that’s some fish” said Geordie. “D’ye ken I wis oot in ma boat the day and I snagged me line on something real heavy, I heaved and I heaved and eventually up came a lamp from a Spanish Galleon. An ye ken the lamp was still lit” “Well sir “ said the American “ I kinda find that hard to believe” “Right boy” said Geordie “ You knock two feet of the length of that fish and I’ll blow out the lamp!!” Cheers Scapa

  7. Yes Jim I lived in Dorset/Hampshire for a couple of years and came across a few of the same kind of "Worthies" We all know what OBE stands for! One of the great things about living in Orkney is that the society is more egalitarian. Folk are accepted for what they can do and can give to the community than by the size of their bank account. Cheers Scapa
  8. Thanks Jim I'll try that out and see how I get on. I guess the Lymington River or Key Haven would be a good spot on a flood tide as well as Hurst point (the walk will do me good any way) Good luck in Sicily, I took gear with me to the Gambia last December and had a bit of fun off the beach but my missus seemed to think that there is more to a holiday than fishing???? Cheers Scapa
  9. Hi Folks I'm going down to visit my folks in the Lymington area in the next couple of weeks and thought I'd try and sneak my telescopic spinning rod in the luggage (flying from Orkney). Has anyone got any hot tips for a couple of sneaked hours in the early morning around Milford on sea/Lymington? What suggetions do you have regards lures and access? Cheers Scapa
  10. Thought you might like to know of a beach cleaning scheme up here in Orkney. Every April, a weekend is nominated as "Bag the Bruck" weekend. Local groups go out and clear the bruck (rubbish ) from accessible beaches. The local authority pays the groups (football clubs, Scouts, community societies Etc) a small amount per bag. This way everyone wins, the groups get some funds, the council fulfills its' duty at low cost, young people get a sense of community service and the residents and visitors get cleaner beaches. Most of the rubbish however seems to be of a maritime nature (nets, rope, fish boxes, old boots) which have been blown here by the gentle winter breeze!! Might not work every where but coastal communities might like to think about it. Cheers Scapa
