I’m not that old but i remember when a Carp used to be a special fish that was rarely seen let alone caught. If everything went right, the gods smiled on us & we had a bit of luck & managed to catch one it was sure to be a monster of at least 8 pounds. I preferred it that way.
My local river, the Gipping, has held carp for years but only in the lower reaches, nowadays the bl**dy things are all the way through. Get rid of the carp & put some barbel in. Don’t get me wrong i’m not a carp hater, they’re fantastic bait.
Carp Puddles? Small man made water stuffed to the brim full of small carp, is it anglings equivalent to battery farming? Still i don’t care, each to their own & as someone else said, the places i fish will be quieter.
However a club in Suffolk which has always been a decade behind the times recently decided to convert one of its established waters into a carp puddle. Being forward thinkers they decided to remove the Pike first. I think it is now a universally held view (except in the west of Ireland) that this is ecological stupidity. A good source tells me that one large specimen was transferred to another water but thirty odd smaller fish had to be killed to comply with section 30 regulations???????? So we have an indigenous fish removed to make way for an import. The worst kept secret around is that of a committee member catching Carp from one pit & moving them to another several miles away. Section 30 regulations don’t apply here then? Now that does p**s me off!
Thanks doctor, i feel better now.
