quote: John/Rich, watch yourselves. I mentioned the very same idea a year or two ago and it got very nasty some people get very silly when they're anonymous. Just to clear things up a bit,I am definatly against the use of treble hooks due to the pike reason. I just thought I would mention it to bring it to peoples attention. Appologies if I have been misunderstood, I take the upmost care of any fish I land and would not use any method to jepordise their wealthfare as we all want stocks to last to catch them again. cheers, richard

although I would not advocate the use of treble hooks for carp, do other fish not deserve the same respect. It has been known that pike which are deep hooked and have the trace snapped off have effectivley had their throats stitched up.
  5. if every one else feeds bread try something completely different that the carp may not have seen before. try a large pop up fished on a zig rig but cut away the edges to form a rough shape, it may confuse the fish and also it will leak out more attractors as the tough outer skin has been removed. for loose feed try chum mixers soaked in a complementary dip. richard.

spot on. Although I would expect quite a few young uns would be afraid of approaching an older guy in case they get their head bitten off for standing to close to their 2 grand pole. richard. p.s will someone please tell me how to use the quote thingy. ta
  8. cheers, looking at the time you posted I was "pipped to the post".
  9. centre drag? please enlighten those in the dark.
  10. I prefere rear rear drag as on some new reels there is the "fightin drag" feature which offers an instant adjustment instead of fiddling with a front drag. I,ve just got a shimano sahara with this on and it is the mutts nutts.
  11. do club rules state that a foul hooked fish caught in a match must be returned? if so how many people in a match situation are going to be that honest. richard.
  12. I aggree, theres nowt like sitting at a natural lake and having most of it to your self. I sometimes go to Bradshaw (cos the missus comes but only likes to catch big fish) and even at 7:30 it is heaving on the spare pegs. Most of it is taken up by matches. Each to their own I suppose. p.s not intended to be a dig at math anglers
  13. at least you can use it as a bribe to go fishing more. richard

John, the wire spirals are made by Korum and are available at tackle shops at about £1 for 6 ( 3 sizes ) just make a standard hail rig but without the loop, thread the hair through he centre of the spiral and secure it with a small split shot. hope this helps. Richard.
  16. after reading "AT" it seems that people get a better, more exiting, fight out of small carp than a monster such as Benson. So i'll agree with you guys. Size doesn't matter
