  1. I regularly use Silkworm and catch my share If you are really worried about it just add some lead wire, tungsten putty or small split shot....it won't float then.
  2. Can't we just export all the carp somewhere?
  3. Coarse fish, including carp and bream have been sold on Nottingham fish market for over 30 years that I know. The Thompson and Morgan garden catalogue used to sell ponds ,aeration systems and small carp for home rearing many years ago....they were for food. None of this is new
  4. A few posts back someone was saying that Poland's rivers are devoid of fish stocks because fish are taken for the table. Seems that they are not after all. Who are we supposed to believe?...I suppose the anti immigrants need to be a bit more consistent rather than all these conflicting 'reports' and supposed 'evidence' they produce.
  5. I am not convinced that your line 'obviously' needs to be as fine as possible. If you want to use monofil then find one that will do the job rather than worry about it's diameter. I remember, many years ago, when I match fished on the Trent.... Many matchmen used 1.5 lbs mainline when stickfloat fishing whereas many others advocated at least 4 lbs as they felt it made it easier to control the float. There did not seem to be any consistent difference in their catches. I think there are more important factors to consider.
  6. Threads like this really get some hysterical over reactions. Seems like not everybody agrees with you: http://polishpoland.com/fish.htm Keep things in perspective.
  7. I have some shimano 4000 FGs and the front drag is excellent. I also use bait runners (rear drag) and never have any difficulty with either. I find that drag adjustment almost becomes automatic and I don't really have to think about it.
  8. Could have been a lot worse. There are very heavy fines for returning carp in some states
  9. In some parts of America and Australia they use a bow and arrow to catch carp. It is quite effective on a warm day when they are on the suface. The Australians simply kill all the carp they catch. Don't even eat them. They make good yabby and crab bait though
  10. I accept that LT. I was simply pointing to the fact that many people's perceptions are fashioned by the media...and that can be a bit dodgy to say the least. The other day someone started a thread about their area ( in which I also live and fish) and trotted out the story about Immigrants claiming to use Harpoons to catch mussels..... That story has been doing the rounds for ages and has been discussed on here before....only then it was in a different area I suspect many of these stories are media driven. I have never seen any problem in the places I fish. I wonder how many others have actually seen anything at all?
  11. The Daily mail? The Angling times ? What does anyone expect when the Daily Mail discusses immigrants?...They supported Hitler FFS.
  12. No worries Steve. I was being pretty general and accept your point. The daft thing about threads like this is that sensible, reasonable people start arguing amongst themselves whereas 'mischief makers' stand back and simply stir the pot occasionally. that's the internet for you. ps. I am still compiling my book list....I have a lot more than I realised
  13. I also said that it is legal if within the club rules. Therefore it is not illegal to remove a fish from a stillwater if the controlling club allow it.....and many do
  14. That is your choice. However, people are referring to the illegality of taking fish. I am simply pointing out that it is not illegal if someone holds a licence and the person is fishing within the club rules. ...there are plenty of indigenous british anglers who fish illegally. Why do these threads focus on immigrants?
  15. Can we just clarify one point: IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO TAKE COARSE FISH FOR THE TABLE (or for bait). It is illegal to fish without a rod licence whether you are from Poland, Pakistan or Birmingham. It may be against SOME club rules but , as far as the EA rules are concerned, you are allowed to take a number of fish providing to stick to various size and bag limits. If the club rules ban it then it is up to them to take action. Most of my clubs allow fish to be taken.
  16. Elton Point taken.....However, I was assuming a modicum of common sense from anglers although that may be misplaced Chesters Where I live people still do a lot of rabbit hunting/snaring...lot's of game birds to be bought (mostly legal). A lot of Trout taken. And I suspect a fair bit of poaching...by the locals more than 'Johnny Foreigner'. I still remember the days when we used to harvest white crayfish (now protected, of course). I would suggest that environmental changes, of all sorts, have damaged fisheries far more than any taking of fish for food (by whoever). The crayfish is a classic example.
  17. Exactly Elton And it is still mostly a 'Voluntary' code. Also brought about by changing tastes and a general move away from a 'living off the land' culture. Mostly club and EA rules still accomodate those who want to fish 'for the pot' occasionally.
  18. Just to add Not so many years ago Ruffe and Gudgeon were considered quite a delicacy. I have eaten Gudgeon but not Ruffe
  19. Anglers have always taken Pike, Perch, Zander, Grayling, Eels and Carp for food. It is only relative recently that anglers in the UK have stopped taking fish Regularly for food. I have eaten all of the above except Zander and they are all edible....some more that others. Pike, Perch, Grayling and Eels are probably still the most taken fish by british anglers and if the club rules allow it (and many do) then those concerned are doing nothing wrong. A recent poll on here suggested that many UK anglers would still take fish to eat if they wanted to. there is a racist theme to this type of thread which I find more distasteful than any freshwater fish.
  20. I've never seen them on that part of the Trent....or any other
  21. What would you do about all the british anglers fishing without a licence? Do you check them all?
  22. Anglers are also part of the problem. How many times do huge carp start getting caught from lakes which have no track record? Anglers then flock to them instead of asking how they got there in the first place. There is only a market for these fish because some owners and anglers are prepared to buy them.
  23. That has already happened.... ....loads of times When will the idiots ever learn
