  1. awaaar & Pinky I've just posted a new thread......
  2. Many, many congratulations. I experienced my first just over 12 months ago. It really is life changing, and sort of brings other things into perspective. Just one note - a touch too much detail!
  3. Enjoy it while you can. Just remember, your class outfit consists of tempremental pre madonnas, only a Robert "Theatrical" Pirez, or Sol "I did't elbow him honest guv" Campbell, or Patrick "what tackle" Vierra away from multi match suspensions and points deductions. With potentially three volatile clashes with the mighty mancs in the next few weeks, the tears may still flow!!!
  4. awaaar... You may have won a lot of battles, but the war isn't over! We meet at Highbury in the Premiership - time for your unbeaten run to come to an end with a double hatrick (One from Van the Man and one from Saha)sandwiching a Vierra own goal. FA Cup Semi Final (now at the Millenium Stadium I understand). No chance on your fourth successive i'm afraid. Champions League? Maybe meet again - hopefully in the Final, when we can do the hatrick. Premiership is yours for the taking (But then again it was last year i seem to remember), but you'll still loose 2-1 in the final reckoning
  5. Paul I couldn't agree more. Dead Wood doesn't just refer to whingers. In fact, much of the dead wood is loathe to moan for fear of drawing attention to themselves and highlighting the fact that they are, perhaps, surplus to requirements.
  6. Productivity is surely a matter of commitment? All other things being equal, the more dedicated and committed you are to your job/career, the more productive you will be. Engaging in employment that you actually enjoy is probably difficult for many people. I'll stick my neck out here and suggest that the vast majority of us only get up in the morning to go to work through financial necessity. I know I do. As an individual though, i take the line of "If i've got to be here i'll make the most of it". There are many colleagues that don't follow the same philosophy and gripe about work all the time. My message to them? Like it or leave. We do still have free choice and no manner of holidays is going to increase productivity if the desire isn't there. If your boss told you that you could have unlimited leave, but you would only be paid for, say, four weeks per year, how many people would take any extra? Just recently, my company decided to implement statutory sick pay only (previously we were paid at full rate). Sickness is at an all time low. Productivity is up. The moral? Drop the dead wood (IMO). Nobody deserves anything for nothing.
  7. quote: I would only be in favour of making it a bank holiday if it was instead of May Day! No! More holidays not less!! Give more people, more opportunity to earn double/triple time! More ironies! By hijacking an ancient festival and turning it into a modern day labour fest, the poor workers actually miss out on the rare opportunity of some overtime!
  8. Yoxer: Can we expect your support on Townlads 'A Special day??????' thread?
  9. Show your support here: http://www.bombardier.co.uk/stgeorgesday.php Or will we all just talk about it again?
  10. quote: if the Iraqis "are glad" that Saddam is no longer their leader, WHY ARE THEY STILL FIGHTING OUR TROOPS? I have no facts/figures on this but the theory is there: Yes there are SOME Iraqis still fighting our forces, but there are MORE that are not. If this (Iraq)was a democratic society this would suggest only a minority are against regime change? Accordingly change / ousting of Sadam was favoured by the inhabitants of that country. Method wrong maybe, but result? Without question (IMO) correct. If England (GB) should ever fall to a dictator, i would pray that there is a nation out there somewhere that would fight for my rights. If they can succeed by negotiation alone, wonderful. Unfortunately that isn't the world we live in. Sadam was too cocky and confident by far. HE caused his own downfall, and the problems that 'his' country experienced. If he had stepped down, gone into exile or put the gun to his own head, so much of 'his' country would have been spared such bloodshead and warfare. When democracy fails, Civil War ensues. In Iraq, there was nobody strong enough within the country (economically or otherwise) to succeed in overthrowing what is globally recognised as a barbaric regime. You can only talk for so long before action is needed. Again, i must point out that i have no facts to support this argument, only an opinion from what i have gleaned.
  11. Ahhhh ST GEORGES DAY. That day of celebration for all things English. The day we all rember who the mighty George slaid the dragon etc etc. The National Bank Holiday of our country that everybody gets off....... It's also an ex-girlfriends birthday, but never mind.
  12. Leeds won the old First Division. No English manager has yet won the premiership. Highest finisher was Keegan in i think 95/96 season when Newcastle were runners up to Man Utd. I think this was also the year of the (in)famous "I'd love it" quote. Ironically, when you consider the state of Scottish National football, of only three managers ever to have won the Premiership, two were Scottish. Sir Alex Ferguson with Man Utd and Kenny Dalgleish with Blackburn. The third was/is of course Whingeing Wenger of that French National outfit Arsenal.

Monday morning and the brains not quite up to speed yet.
  15. Ahh, my joint favorite spectator sport together with the wonderful game itself. I grew up in a town called Buckingham just 5 or so miles fromn Silverstone. What a buzz the town has over grand prix weekend - Many of the teams book into local hotels, and in years gone by some top drivers have frequented the local hostelries (sp?)No name dropping, but in the week leading up to grand prix, and during testing periods, just pop into the Villiers Hotel bar on Castle Street.... Fondest memory - Police escort into the circuit on race day, driven in a Mercedes. Police traffic car and two motor bikes. The car took us to Whittlebury (if any one knows the area), and once the traffice built up, the bikes took over. Gratis tickets including paddock. Took my place with my friend on the inside of Copse, right by the pit lane exit - Exactly where Nigel Mansell pulled over to retire from the race whilst driving for Farrari. He turned and waved before throwing his balaclava and gloves into the crowd. I still have the 5 mins on video from the highlights programme with me jumping madly to try and catch one! I still live in the area - Now in Milton Keynes. I work in Northampton so there is high focus onb the sport all around me. One of my now clients? Justin Wilson - Last years rookie for Minardi and then Jaguar. Role on the new season.
  16. Somebody once told me, "for something to be Racist it must first be false, and then relate to minority group" If this is correct, remarks about the Chinese could never be racist as they are (I think) the largest single ethnic group in the world. Bad taste and timing - nothing more.
  17. what the hell went wrong to give us the society/culture we have today, now thats another question We grew up, met girls, and got mortgages! Playtime was well and truly over then.....
  18. Most things relating to retention of information are legal with your permission. Can we assume that you gave them your licence for a reason? Two reasons spring to mind - 1) As already mentioned, if you drive for the company (Their vehicles or your own) 2) It is a valid form of ID. More and more employers are asking for some form of ID from their employees. Especially if they are new. 'tis the cynical world we now live in unfortunately that with terrorist threats, theft from employers, and dare i say assylum and whether somebody is legally entitled to work, that more checks are being made.
  19. 7th March 7lb 4oz Boy Not based on anything!
  20. PEN 15 used to adorn a red Toyota Celica - saw it a Silverstone one grand prix. Another local to me is 999 DOC - Guess the profession!
  21. 15 - 13. Umm, 15 Scotish Players against 13 English. That would be kind of us, and you can pick them......Still lose though!! Or is it 15 pens for scotland to a measly 13 converted tries for england? Six nations is really difficult for me - A born and bred englishman of Scottish and welsh heritage!
  22. Supposed to be reconcilling my clients account. Only £143,212.45 adrift!!
  23. There was a young angler called Fisher Who liked to dress just like his sister. His mum thought it rude, And his dad disaproved, So Fishers no longer a mister!
  24. I've been away a long time, only resurfacing after a 4 month sabatical to find - What joy, what bliss, a compo like this!! My rhyme and my reason can again blossom this season.... Here goes: There was a young angler called Fisher, Who's female friend was much richer. She'd camp by the lake, Eating sarnies of steak, And all he could manage was a kipper. There was a young angler called Fisher, Who one day hooked a dolphins left Flipper. It mauled and it rucked, And it jumped and it bucked, And whacked our young angler in the kisser.
