  1. i suppose not being dead helps.
  2. the late great bill hicks had a rant about hippies that touched on this, something along the lines of - "those goddamm hippies, always going on about "dont eat the tuna, dont eat the tuna, the dolphins get caught in the nets", well what about the tuna? oh, they taste good"
  3. ken dodgson is top charter skipper out of falmouth. to be frank hes a miserable sod but hell put you on the fish without fail. the boat is leo too and i think you can contact him through the tackle box on arwenack st., falmouth. he often has places available midweek
  4. the quickest way i have found is to use a small straight sided net and run it up the side of a quay or flat surface underwater that is covered with fine green weed. do it at night, and youll find the weed is alive with shrimp. seems they hide in there.
  5. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/cros.../3834179.stmBBC Radio 4's Crossing Continents, Europe’s fishing crisis Crossing Europe was broadcast on Thursday, 1 July, 2004 at 1100 BST. The programme will be repeated on Monday, 5 July 2004, at 2030 BST. Fishing has shaped the development of Europe; and the fishing industry provides jobs for millions of people. But the continent's fish stocks are on the brink of collapse. Some have already disappeared... victims of years of over-exploitation and short-term profiteering. Paul Henley travels to Europe's last marine wilderness, the Azores, where millions of years of evolution could be about to be wiped out in a matter of weeks. And he goes to Norway, one of the world's only conservation success stories and asks if the European Union really can protect the fish future generations hope to catch.
  6. thanks very much chris, that does help a lot. cheers jonny
  7. hi its a lowrance globalmap 100 handheld mapping gps. its quite dated (1999), but effective. i know OS maps use "ordnance survey 1936 england and wales"as a datum but i suspect admiralty may use "WGS 84" or another as i am finding an error of around 300 meters in the northing when taking marks from paper charts. i fish the manacles a lot and dont want to get it wrong! cheers jonny
  8. hi all i'm getting to grips with a new gps unit. could anyone advise me as to which datum and position format i must use to match admiralty charts? much head scratching jonny
  9. hi all its worth noting that polyethylene degrades under sunlight. if you are going to store a kayak outside make sure its covered over otherwise after a few years you may see it split open underneath you.....
  10. its not inflatable, its rotomoulded polyethylene. same stuff as washing up liquid bottles but tougher. you can see the well aft and sealed hatch forward.
  11. i was going to post this in a new thread but it fits here. yesterday morning 0900 1 mile east of porthkerris, the lizard, cornwall, we saw a basking shark at least 20 ft long breaching just 20 yards from our(15 ft) dinghy. the sod was completely clear of ther water and the splash on landing soaked us both and put a few gallons of water in the boat. sure we have all the safety kit but nothing could have helped us if it had hit us,or even been a bit closer. dinghy anglers beware!
  12. ive seen bass floating on the surface near manacles a few of times, always after having spotted several cormorants pack hunting. they are invariably wounded in the gills, an obvious weak spot. i plump for osprey as it looks like a tear.
  13. i myself am not sure which is the more outrageous, committing gang rape in the name of freedom or photographing the act for posterity. sorry if the link offended, but it did come with a caveat and the photos have been accepted as genuine by the state department. i can see the moral high ground opening up to swallow the USA any day now............
  14. True, morgan seems to have either been duped or been dishonest, much like blair & hoon. lets hope they have the honour to follow his example. a warning about the following link - it contains images of abuse by american troops yet to be released in the english speaking world. sick bastards. - [link deleted - some of those images are just too graphic] [ 16.
