  1. I personally didnt know gerry, but as a member of the forum and have read his posts, i offer my deepest haerth-felt sympaties to his family, relatives and friends + may his soul and the souls of all our departed rest in peace +
  2. Since it seems to be my original post that has incited Sharkbyte to request this post i think it only fair i justify my comments. firstly although my username my be misleading "UNUKWOLF" (its a username from a game forum and i use it because it allows me register on forums without wondering if the name is taken.) im irish, so fish stocks over here are not the same as in uk we have unlicened rivers and pleantyful stocks. Now about my comment, i did NOT recommend the takeing of 2lb+ perch, i said it was IMO in MY opinion. I also NEVER said i do it every session, in fact the last time i took a fish home was at least 5 years ago. i am totally for catch and release and practise it and promote it, but i am still intitled, if the urge takes me, once in a blue moon to take a fish "home for the pot" with out wondering what effects its gonna have. i have said i do not go out to target a fish to take home, im off this sunday for a good days fishing and with all intent to catch and release. further more ill be bagging in a large keepnet, placed out properly to allow the movement of the catch inside. all fish will thereafter be released properly and not thrown in. NO-MATTER what anyone says i feel im a considerate angler and at the end of the day thats what counts. i genuinly understand that in the U.K. many waters are managed, have by laws and may in some cases be well understocked and to that end agree with anyone who feels it wrong to take a fish home.BUT thats the U.K. and not Ireland. if people on this forum dont agree with me ..FINE .. its my opion, im entitled to it, and after all that is what a forum is for, to air ones opinions in a polite manner. i have already appolagised to sharkebyte if i offended him and again i openly appolagise to him and anyone on the forum if i have offeneded, but then i dont judge others on thier opinions do i?
  3. Firstly Sorry to offend anyone on this forum and sorry if i offended you sharkbite. i was however just airing my view, and not "Hijacking" the post. Secondly over here if i was to take home a 2lb+ perch i dont think it would be frowned upon as much as in the uk.(this is about where i am proven wrong). besides which by the time you bait gets past all the tiddles of roach, perch and rudd, its not that often i catch a fish of edable size. and i dont go targeting perch in the first place. i usually am fishing for bream skimmers rudd etc. and if i happan upon a perch then so be it BUT i DO NOT go out for them alone with intent! again sorry if i put people out!
  4. you heard??? has no one here had perch? they are lovely, one little problem... they are a very boney fish but well worth the hassle! however it would have to be at least 2lb IMO
  5. just my 2 cents worth: 1. probably the obvious but before setting upmy rod i mix some groung bait and maggots (personally i find red the best) and lob it out. this way while setting up it gives time to attract fish to your swim. 2. at this time of year bites can be shy, so recommending the fine tip is GENERALY the best, BUT also at this time of year the wind can pick up, the current can be strong etc, etc so i would choose the mid range tip. 3. if fishing a lake , or summer river i keep the tip low, but again this time of year with the flow a bit faster and stronger i keep the rod high as to keep line out of the water and avoid line drag and false bites. 4. (as said by others) sit with rod right angle to the swim, in laymans terms sit with your shoulder(left or right up to you) towards the water. other things like line size/type, hooks type/size and rigs have to be choosen with experiance from fishing the swims and you will soon find what works. (for example i generaly use a patanoster rig with the lighter hook lenght, but if im bagging big fish ill leave the hooklenght stronger so not to lose the catch. personally i use a hook lenght of one arms lenght.)if your not getting bites try to downscale the rig, getting a lot of tiddlers in summer? upscale. again trail and error. target boards can be a help in windy conditions or just starting out, to detect shy bites easier. to gain acuracy casting, choose a target on far bank ( a tree, a pylon etc.) and aim for that every cast. after casting and ledger has settled, drag the line back a fraction so that the hook bait is lieing in the ground bait. good luck and hope you bag well!
  6. Well my 2 cents worth goes like this: 1. a few(8) years ago i went fishing to my fav swim, brought my dog for company. a rescue dog i had for about 2 years, no history in background. anyhow back to story: bagging well when i hooked a skimmer, about 5 feet from the bank WHACK a pike nabs my skimmer and wasnt lettin go for love or money. and to top it off i had forgot my landing net (was landing fish on the sloping bank). well with-out any instruction or teaching on my half my dog jumped straight in grabed the pike and brought it to me unmarked. i stood there dumbfounded! ( a true story for non belivers) 2. TODAY: a bad days piking, motor dies on boat so had to row back UP stream in winter/spring flood currents,(boy was i knackered) drivin back home i noticed my fishin buddy startin to doze, the following i had seen on a web video: at the right moment (after checkin rear view mirror) i slammed breaks and screamed, my buddy jumped so quick the seatbelt clutch kicked slapping him bak in the seat, he looked petrafied! ( this didnt happen in web video:) i started to laugh so hard at his expression I STARTED to black out! what goes around comes around!!!!!
  7. Its called a swim because sometimes, fish swim about in front of you, and DONT let you catch them. (taunting buggers)
  8. Hi all, been a long time since i posted here! have done very little fishing last year and intend to do more this year. got meself a new jeep so loads of room and 4wheel drive my ass to the bank! anyway seen this and thought you guys might enjoy! http://www.holylemon.com/EasyFishing.html
  9. the images you are useing seem about right to me bright, right size. i personaly would not have an image bigger than about 300x300 due to load time and file size. but for your site they seem in proportion. as for format jpeg and gif, preferably gif for smaller file size. as for the site..lookin well m8!
  10. ucan usualy download some demo software that are fully working but only mfor a set period of time some examples are ulead or my favourite pinnical studio. these and other freeware/shareware items are also available on cds that come with magazines mainly digital photography/video ones. on the other hand fully working suites are available on "certain" sites for free if you venture down that path. if you want some direct links contact me and i will forward you some working links.
  11. BAD NEWS: the scat is dead, i dont know if it was due to the fact that it is a brackish fish or maybe the oscar got fed up of the fin nipping? but got up this morning to find him dead with the croaking catfish feeding on him. ( on an other note: by heck that cat fish got big i rearly see him due to being nocternal he was originaly about the size of a small corydora now he is about the same as very large 3spot gourami) so thats another fish unsuitable for the tank! ohh well will trysomethin new.
  12. ws ftp lite is also a very simple programme!
  13. your dead right MrW. i just caught him at it this evening! my oscars fins WERE in top condition untill today the lil BA**ard haha but still the oscar has a whole lot of growing to do atm he is only about 1/3 the size of the scat
  14. Well i went out yesterday and purchased my final addition to the tank, (for now anyway)a fantastic speciman Scat. he is aprox. 10cm long by 8cm high. although mainly a brackish fish i have been told that by adding a teaspoon of salt to tank it should be fine with my oscar, cichlids and croaking catfish. and this morning he and the rest of the tank mates are thriving and feeding well always a good sign!
