  1. Re above it was a decent Pike water in the 70's. The Jetty is no longer there & the Pike population is modest. Doubles are rare fish these days. Regular matches also limit weekend access. Not what it was i'm afraid
  2. www.pacgb.com Special offer now on folks John Cahill PAC Membership Secretary
  3. West Midlands Liaison Officer 'Mad Mick' Bowen is organising a mini bus from Brum to leeds for the PAC Conference this year. 21 spaces available & first come first served. 2 or 3 pickups from Brum, but those from further south welcome to book a spot / park in Brum & save on the driving. Circa £13 a head DON'T PM ME PLEASE - Mick is the man on 01527 452983 www.pacgb.com Find out first whats happening in the world of Pike fishing via http://pacgb.blogspot.com/
  4. Problem on the Severn is that on some stretches it is dangerous to fish as platforms have been washed away leaving unsafe & high banks which are a nightmare in the wet. I'd love to explore these 'pegs that time forgot' but find it very difficult to do so. I'll keep buying the book & exploring but can see me ringing for help at some point whilst clinging to a bush. www.pacgb.co.uk
  5. Budgie To be honest i didn't need a club book as i've fished most of em over the years. i just asked if there were any new updates & got told out of stock & went on my merry way. Very disappointed given the 100 mile round trip not to be able to get through the gate & no mention of padlocks at HQ or website (that i could see). I can understand the need for padlocks on some of these venues but discussed it with 4 other members afterwards & they too knew nothing about it. Simple communication i would have thought. I'll still buy a card as i always have done but must agree some of the stretches are now bordering on unfishable / unsafe on the Severn. Shame really JC
  6. Educate me Guide book not in stock at HQ upon visit Website contains maps not codes. How is the padlock code communicated to members ?
  7. Got to say Ken my view is similar. Bought a card at tail end of river season to fish one specific stretch. Up at 3am, on the road only to find the car park padlocked on arrival. No mention of padlocks, no codes with card to member on payment (at HQ). Fished elsewhere. Once very proud club now in decline. Needs a shake up & some new blood IMO
  8. No Probs Andrew you are welcome to the next one member or not. If its the solihull & warks website don't bother its out of date. Steve will update via www.pacgb.co.uk probably Regards John
  9. Andrew Solihull & Warks region usually starts up after a summer break in October. The region has moved away from meetings in a pub / club to 'on the bank' get togethers in the west mids. Not sure what Steve Bown (RO ) has planned for this year but will let you know in due course. Can't comment about the past Andrew as i simply don't know the facts. The present Committee has a simple message - The past is the past & we need strength in Unity to move forward. There are many issues facing Pike Angling (and other Predator types of angling). We can attempt to address these or continue 'in fighting' which will achieve nothing. We might not win every battle but it won't be for lack of effort. Regards John Cahill www.pacgb.co.uk PS it costs nothing to attend the region meetings except maybe a day ticket
  10. Andrew You are welcome to attend Solihull & Warks Region where i am based. In addition the West Midlands Liaison Officer 'Mad Mick' lives in Redditch & will i am sure be happy to discuss any reservations you may have. With regard to Privilleged Access events in the West Midlands there is i am afraid a shortage of available trout water Piking on your immediate doorstep. We as a Region do travel / car share all over the country (& Europe) to fish. Prices are in line with those charged on 'open' trout water tickets at circa £50 a boat for a pair of anglers. Next year 3 of us are off to Canada. John Cahill PAC Membership Secretary
  11. Start of season (June 16th) refers to start of season on those waters not open all year. PAC position is this (Press release June 12th) PAC URGES SUMMER PIKERS: LOOK AFTER ESOX June 12, 2006 With the new river fishing season about to get under way, the Pike Anglers Club is calling for people to fish responsibly for Britain's top predator. "Pike are easily damaged by poor handling at any time but at this time of the year there is an added risk when oxygen levels in the water are low," said PAC chairman Colin Goodge. "For this reason many of our members choose not to fish for pike in summer but we also recognise there are anglers who do, particularly with lures. "We would appeal to anyone to think carefully before they go out: Is my tackle strong enough to land a fish quickly, especially in weedy water..? "Do I have the right tools to hand to unhook a pike quickly to minimise the amount of time it spends out of the water..? "And extra care should exercised when bait fishing, with good bite indication and prompt striking the keys to avoiding deep-hooked fish. "This is particularly important for those who may choose to pursue other species, such as zander, over the warmer months, on waters which also contain pike." The PAC is urging all predator anglers to follow its code of conduct, which can be viewed at www.pacgb.co.uk.
  12. Paul No problem glad to have you in the PAC. May Pikelines will follow shortly John BTW Live baiting is now gone in Scotland & fishing is banned on Abberton Res. If you pike fish we need you guys (& gals) www.pacgb.co.uk

  14. Budgie Do it now you know you want to. Lots of issues out there, we need your voice. John Cahill PAC Membership Secretary www.pacgb.co.uk
  15. No the fund is simply at the stage where an indication of support is sought. No monies or authorities to debit monies are requested. You can always say no if you subsequently don't like what the Representative panel have to say. Re legal Costs - correct because them boys ain't cheap Going back to my P&P lair now John Cahill
