Let's hope so - was nice to see a couple of grayling too!

Looks like you've found a suitable substitute for Willows!ย
-
Haha! No chub was more of a surprise - though a tree across one of my banker swims didn't help!
-
ย And I couldn't even get a carp off the top in the margins - usually when it gets dark - and the wildfowl go to roost - a few thumbnail sized bits of bread flicked in gets some response within 20-30mins - not a single slurp last might!
-
Certainly was - 3rd season running I've had baby barbel from here - must try and find some bigger ones this year!
-
Final sum raised for Sue Ryder was ยฃ400 (including Gift-aid)
-
Well I think he had a cork ball at the business end - garnered a lot of interest from the carp but Steve said they are starting to wise up to his tactics......
-
Steve Todd was fly fishing for them a few pegs up from me on Tuesday evening - did quite well and looked a lot of fun!
-
Another tweak to tactics - I didn't put in ANY ground bait or loose feed - hunch that it pulls in the carp more than anything else!

Another session that backed up my little article for the newsletterย ย They just sit in the fastest current with their mouths open when hooked - can take an age to coax them upstream. Seems like these two forgot to close their mouths when they were on the bank!ย

Haha - happy birthday - twas those blanks that inspired me to give it a go - thought I might not get plagued by the carp - sort of worked too!
-
No - and that WAS a surprise - not a single minna and no sucked maggots from them. The dace were of a disappointing stamp as well....
-
How did you get on, there?
-
Welcome back - hope you find your new lake!!!
-
Martin - have you seen this thread on AN - a little on the old side - was started in 2013 - but might yield some useful nuggets for you in your new home....

Ah CP. It's not just about catching fish for all of us.ย
ยI know but a chilly day in mid-March is chub weather in my book....
-
And therein explains why I take a hiatus every spring!ย Though can'y quite believe you went to Willows on the last day of the river season...

First season since 07/08 where I didn't catch a pike. Rarely fish for them - but they are a piscatorial menace when perching with lobs and I usually fluke a few this way - only bite offs this season though....
-
Ha Ha. I caught 136 trout and didn't weigh a single one! Will only weigh them if they are bit exceptional - or pushing a PB (which is 8lb 12oz - so unlikely!) Thisย was the last spottie thing I put on the scales (and even took its portrait!). Gudgeon count was 25 - modest but 14 more than the previous season!ย

Not the first rod you've snapped this season IIRC???ย
-
Ouch - which rod did you snap?

I hate rainbows even more than browns - not meant to be in the river in the first place plus they don't fight like trout so you think you're landing something decent until you see that flash of pink -ย
