  1. Had a trip out on Sunday, Reculver, N.Kent. Launched just before low, fished up to just before high. Cracking day, early chop disappeared, sun came out, 7 small bass, biggest about 3lb, smallest around 3/4lb. Nowt to write home about but great fun All caught on rag/squid cocktail, tried spinning/plugging but not a touch. Day only marred by a small dead porpoise floating around by the sea wall when I came in edit note: tweaked the picture links and made the pictures a little smaller. Newt [ 12. 2. Artfulfisher Nice one.... Looks like it'll be a week in Wales then next year. Now to persuade the wife!
  3. Hi Simon, You're forgiven, I've had plenty of tope from this area, know the reefs well. Used to launch my Seahog at Tywyn and fish Sarn Bwch regularly...admittedly a bit of a difference in a 'yak. No I was wondering if anybody had the proverbial "Nantucket Sleighride" if you were drifting. Something I've always fancied..been looking at too many Yankee websites!! I'll be up that way in Sept, fancy a go at the bass. Anyway, looks like you had an excellent trip, well done all of you.
  4. Congrats! Looks like you all had a great trip, I must get me a Tope from the 'yak. Were you anchored? and how far offshore were you? I saw a charter boat in one of the pics.
  5. Mine's a Dagger De-Luxe, with the back pocket. They tend to be much of a muchness apart from the clips, on the Dagger they have plastic snap buckle thingeys, on some of the others they have the nickel plated dog clips..depends on the make of your yak and what the fixings are on it. I think mine was about £35, from the well known Bournemouth place!
  6. Hi All Been 'yak fishing for 3 years now, bought a Dagger Frolic in '02. Starting to show her age, probably a Prowler next time, and I'll keep the Frolic for surfing. Most of my fishing has been in the west country, my yak was down there for a year at my folks. Recently started fishing locally (Kent). Bass are my thing, still waiting for a double tho' biggest so far 9lb 12oz..not on the yak. I envy the guys heading to Wales this weekend, have fished Sarn Bwch a lot in the past, have had a lot of nice Tope there, used to launch my Seahog from Tywyn. There are some cracking mullet in Broadwater as well. I used to use a 20lb class Penn from the yak, using a cut down 3lb T/C carp rod now, butt cut, not the tip, and re-gripped. Handles lures nicely and an ounce or 2 of lead if I anchor. Fished off Sheppey last weekend, couple of small schoolies, but some bigger ones about, was only out for an hour and a half... got too d****d hot! Look forward to seeing u all around some time
  7. Hi I use a Dagger Frolic, really stable, but at 10 foot, shorter than the Scrambler XT. Not had any problems with the Frolic, although it hasn't got the hatches/storage space of some of the others. When I replace it I'll go for the Cobra Fish 'n' Dive, which is a really spacious yak. I think a decent seat is a must, and a rod holder. Check out some of the American Kayak Fishing sites thru Google. Don
