  1. Agreed . Nursejudy - I think your sunsets shots are terrific, I love the Pimlico Farm one.
  2. I think the crop works OK. The more saturated colours I think work to a degree, but there now seems to be quite a bit of noise in the sky and the sun looks a tad burnt out. I think I'd slightly tone it down? What d'ya reckon?
  3. Given this lovely sunshine I hope you're taking your camera? Have a good 'un. It's supermarket sweep for me I'm afraid.
  4. I love the Brokeback Mountain one. Here's an old fave of mine.
  5. Great shots CJ, but I particularly like the Holbrook Bay shot, plus the onboard picnic sounds great . Re. my earlier sunset shot, I followed Steve & Charlies advice & photoshopped the original image to get it looking something like what they achieved, then, buoyed by the kind words of praise from a few folk on here I decided to sent it to our local BBC news programme (North West Tonight) hoping they may use it for one of their weather bulletins - & flippin heck, they only did go & use it. Sadly, they used it on their lunchtime Regional News & Weather programme, so I missed it, but my sis-in-law was home from work having lunch when she heard my name read out, followed by a few kind words about my sunset photo . I, along with half the family, were sat glued to the evening news show, plus I skyplussed it, but it wasn't shown again. So, on Thursday morning I posted that I hadn't got any decent sunset shots & by friday lunchtime I had one broadcast on regional TV. How's that for beginners luck! So, can I say a big thank-you to this forum, without which I wouldn't even have been out taking a sunset shot in the first place. Damn shame I missed it on the telly though. Regards Cliff
  6. Hi Steve. Using this Opanda IExif reader on photos on my computer works fine, but how do you get it to work for an online image. When I right click an online image I just get this: - Cheers Cliff
  7. Great shot Steve, it's strange how the boats reflections are pretty much lost in the reflections of the buildings. Also, are you sure that's Maryport? It looks way too cosmopolitan for Cumbria, maybe more like Port Grimaud?
  8. I love this shot, without the rod it would probably be nothing special, but with it, it's superb. Wow, awesome colours, did it look like that to the naked eye? Charlie, I've saved, into a seperate folder, the modified photos you & Steve have come up with from my prom shot. I keep flicking from one to the other - & I can't make my mind up which I prefer. One things for sure, I prefer both to the original, so I'm glad I asked & also glad you guys took time out to process the photo for me, it makes me realise what can be achieved. I shall try & achieve the same results with the original piccy tomorrow. Cheers Cliff
  9. Thanks n4lly, Finepix & steve for your comments - & steve, I love what you've done with it, particularly the 1st one. I need to make better use of post shot processing. For instance, I've never used curves, I saw your brief tutorial on here a few weeks ago & couldn't quite get my head round the squiggly line on the graph, so thought I'd leave well alone - but I now feel inspired to give it a try. Cheers Cliff Marlin, you need to upload to somewhere like photobucket etc & then post your image as a link.
  10. That's my fave so far. This was taken two hours ago on Blackpool prom, any tips on how to enhance it in photoshop? Exif data Date/Time: 2006:01:26 16:26:45 Focal length: 70.0mm (35mm equivalent: 105mm) Exposure time: 1/60 Aperture: f/13.0 ISO equiv.: 200 Circular polariser fitted.
  11. Wow, it does indeed look organised, but I've never seen so much stuff in such a small space, don't you ever get the feeling of being slightly hemmed in? I bet you had to tidy that before you took the photo - I know I would before photographing my workstation.
  12. That's a cool sunset shot n4lly. I can't make my mind up if I like the gull next to the sun or not? I suppose it could be classed as distracting or that it adds interest? Come to think of it, I don't think I've got one decent sunset shot in my portfolio, I'll have to make that an aim for the coming months.
  13. Here are my two oldies: - The Zenit was my first camera, bought for me by my parents approx 30 years ago. It still works now, I wonder if we'll beable to say the same about these digital gizmos in 30 years. I considered selling both of these, I have all the boxes/manuals for the Pentax, plus a standard lens & flash, but I'd probably get less than Chesters has just paid for his P30, so I think I'll put it back in the loft & see what it's worth in my twilight years - probably nothing .
  14. I tried "taking on the Yak" earlier, she won again of course, so it looks like it's my turn to do the washing up again.
  15. Thanks for that Steve, now I think I need a lie down. I'll have another read tomorrow when not quite so knackered.
  16. Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby. She's a little beauty.
  17. Hi Judy. I clicked on here thinking you were asking about the Pentax *ist DSLR, which I was going to suggest you steer clear of - but as it's a first digital camera you need info on, all I can do is add to Steve Burkes' link with this one, which maybe of use? The top 5 of everything photographic...
  18. I think you need a bigger bucket, or a smaller dog. Great shot.
  19. Why thank you . As for trying harder, I think that's the good thing about these comps, they make you strive for a better shot, plus give you a good reason to get out & about with the camera, which with the gloomy weather at this time of the year some incentive is a big help. Now for the Transport comp, which I see you've got off to a great start.
  20. Good choices for the three finalists Judy & well done to TB, Finepix & Ayjay. My vote (if I'm allowed to say?) goes to TB's excellent macro snail shot, I think when George Michael sang about Fast Love he had these two in mind. As for my 1st entry, "On the move", I chose that title as I was actually driving when I spotted the young lady using her mobile phone as she was walking along the prom here in Blackpool, I was going through a stretch of roadworks, so only doing about 5mph, fortunately my camera was on the passenger seat & switched on, so I grabbed it as the window was opening, snapped a quick candid shot as I drove on by & was amazed when I got home to see it was half decent. Don't try this at home kids. Regards Cliff (Oh & note to self - must try harder)
  21. Evening Charlie. That's a good point re giving details of camera settings. Steve Randles did add EXIF data to quite a few of the photos in the Photo of the Day thread, but I'm sure it was time consuming for him & I suppose it's something we need to all try & get in the habit of doing. What does anyone else reckon? Hitherto I shall try & remember to do so. Regards Cliff
  22. Hi Bill. I've not tried uploading a pic direct from my computer to Anglersnet, which I think is what you're trying to do? I think it's likely you need to reduce the filesize. I do this using Photoshop, but probably the easist way is to download Windows Image Resizer from THIS LINK - it's the 11th one down on the right hand side Once downloaded & installed, simply right click on your image & choose small, medium or large, Image Resizer will create a new photo, greatly reduced in filesize, which you should then beable to upload. Hope this helps? Cheers Cliff
  23. Go for it Steve, although I'm glad the Saturday finish time didn't apply to the Communication comp as I only took my pics yesterday. Just a thought, would it be helpful to show the "Open period" dates in the threads title?
  24. Glad to see you got sorted Ollie . When you're (charged) up & running get some of your photos in the PotD thread. Cheers Cliff
