  1. Cheers mate. I'll probably take 2 rods down. One to bait up and fire out and other to lob out. Thanks for the info.
  2. I usually oil my multiplier after every trip. Not sure if it needs it but I've never had any problems so I'll keep on doing it I usually get the whole thing overhauled once a year. I don't know why but I've always looked after my multipliers more than my fixed spools. Fixed spools are just - well reels! Multipliers however are things to be admired and shown off
  3. I was thinking of a wee flattie session here on Saturday. Does anyone know what the fishings been like? Cheers [ 24. November 2004, 01:34 PM: Message edited by: 101_North ]
  4. Was lucky enough to get 2 small Turbot at Belhaven bay earlier this year. A nice fish to catch. Well done mate

    gloves

Me three I bought the Ron Thompson gloves recently and can't find much wrong with them. Excellent value for £10! The folding fingers are a god send for tying knots, baiting up and getting a ciggie out of the packet
  6. Hope no one minds a newbie having his 2p worth I've been sea fishing since I was about 8 so say about 20 years. I didn't fish much at uni and now I'm only starting to get back into it. I was away from the scene for about 8 years and since I started again I've noticed my catches are smaller and smaller. I've blanked more in the last year than I can ever remember. In fact this summer (for me) was one of the worst mackerel seasons I can remember. I used to catch these by the shed load from the rocks but this year there were numerous trips when I'd have killed for one! I've noticed less wrasse, the pollack are getting smaller and the only thing I seem to catch regularly are tiny coley. I'd be more than happy to pay for a licence if it meant stocks were to be improved. I'm not sure how this could be achieved without money being pumped into the necessary measures, and that money has to come from somewhere. I reckon that if we want to have sustainable fish stocks then we should be prepared to cough up! I do agree with some, however, that a hell of a lot of ground work would have to be in place before I would buy my licence. I wouldn't be happy acting in blind faith. I'd like to see plans and measures being put in place by the powers that be to show their willingness to address the situation. If they should act in good faith then I'm more than happy to do likewise. I spent over £30 last night on a takeaway and a few drinks - to spend a similar amount of money to guarantee future fish levels would feel like I was robbing someone And another thing if my £30 made sure that I never again saw 'anglers' walking away with 40lbs of undersized bass in a bin bag then happy days! I think that over this past year that has made me angrier than anything  I'm still a relative beginner at sea fishing but the reputation of a large number of honest anglers is ruined by (dare I say it) an equally large number of thoughless pricks! I'd pay handsomely to have that situation addressed.
  7. What a weekend for my folks to visit If anyone goes I'd be keen to hear how you get on. I haven't fished Belhaven for a while but when I have it's usually been good.
  8. I hope no one minds me piggy backing onto this thread but what sort of stuff can you catch at these marks at this time of year? I'm pretty much in the same boat as David as I'm not long moved to the Edinburgh area and am trying to get back into shore fishing. I've fished loads of marks round East Lothian with variable sucess this year but never been over to Fife as I wouldn't know where to start. David - it would be good to hear how you get on. Good luck
  9. quote: 101 North it was at Tyinginham beach that i caught it.I should realy stop bing presumptuous Where abouts is Tyningham Beach in relation to Dunbar? I might give it a go. Tried Belhaven, no bass but loads of Flounder and the odd Turbot. Cheers
  10. Good stuff mate I presume you were at Torness? Nice to hear of another angler who puts undersized fish back - unfortunately it's not too common at Torness
  11. I must admit I'm getting pretty addicted to Home and Leisure. I'll sit and watch any fishing show although Henry wins followed a close 2nd by John Wilson. I can't stand Rex Hunt! Just wondering if anyone else shares my vigourous dislike of 'Day Ticket'? The 2 prats that present that do my head in! If they spent as much time talking about fishing as they do taking the **** out of each other it might be alright! Hate that show
  12. I fish at Torness, East Lothian quite often and this happens all the time! Everybody is well spaced out until you catch one - then you have people moving within 3ft of you watching where you cast and trying to hit the same spot! Nothing more annoying! Fish do move about you know
  13. I've caught fish there on any tide but high tide is usually best. Hope you have better luck tonight mate! Always favoured there in the evening aswell.
  14. Which bit of the Forth do you fish? I've tried Granton and North Berwick on numerous occassions and failed to get anything! Tried every method known to man but not a bite! Admittedly haven't tried since end of July as I was getting fed up! Seen a few being caught but nothing in the numbers being suggested. Just my luck to be in the wrong spot as usual Hopefully get out this weekend though.
  15. Neil, To be honest I'm not too hot on anywhere further down than Donaghadee (permanent lack of transport being a major factor) although the coastline is pretty similar to round Bangor though so there should be some fairly accessible marks - just a question of finding them There are plenty of little harbours right down the coast which might be worth a go. Perhaps someone else on here will know more. You could try phoning Trap and Tackle in Bangor on 02891458515 for info? Donaghadee pier produces Pollack, Coaly and flatties (mackerel in summer) so you might have some luck there. If you're near Stricklands Glen then you could try the rocks on the right hand side of Brompton which is a tiny stone harbour about a 5min walk towards Bangor from the car park (I think this might be the mark you mention?). The rocks there should be right for spinning for Pollack etc. Again nothing huge but it's a nice spot! One other spot near Stricklands is Smelt Mill Bay again for the same species as before. Your bubble float setup should be fine at the Orlock mark mentioned as it's fairly shallow although I usually use the redgills behind a drilled lead. Always found that a trace with a bead and earth wire tubing (yellow/green) works best there though. The bottom is relatively clean. I fished there maybe 4 weeks ago when I was back and caught a fair few Pollack in the evening and was pestered with some monster sandeels taking black redgills aswell If you fancy boat fishing near the Copeland Islands try giving Nelsons of Donaghadee a phone on 02891883403 or http://www.nelsonsboats.co.uk/Fishing.html .I think they still run weekend trips into October or you might be able to get a spot on a charter that's going. You never know Hope this helps mate
  16. I'd love to go fishing round there again! Moved to Edinburgh a few years ago and only get back home to fish a few times a year I love fishing round there as most of the coast is ignored and offers some good sport! I was getting jealous just typing the reply
  17. There are plenty of half decent marks near Bangor. Mostly Pollack, Coley, Mackerel, Wrasse etc. Fished round Bangor for years and always found Orlock Point a successful spot. Follow the main road from Bangor to Donaghadee. As you pass the reservoir on your right there is a small group of houses on the left. You can park here. The point you can see from the entrance (usual National Trust style fence thing) produces plenty of Coley and Mackerel in season. The best spot IMO is if you walk round the path for a further 10mins and find a little natural harbour below some houses. This is usually a decent evening mark for Pollack. Nothing huge but you can catch in decent numbers. Something like a Toby or Koster works well although I've had most success there using a small red eddystone lure along the rock margins. Pink tubing on a trace also works well. This is also a great September spot for Mackerel when they're about. Never seems to produce much though until early to late evening. There are also some decent Wrasse to float fished rag. Worth a go. All round Ballymacormack point (between Bangor and Groomsport) can fish well for Pollack at the right times although pick a spot carefully as tackle losses can be high if you're in the wrong spot. Also keep an eye on the tide as it can be quite easy to get stranded on certain parts if you lose track of time. Bangor pier itself is excellent for fishing with light gear. The point of the pier can produce dogs, pollack, decent wrasse, pouting, gurnards, small whiting and Mackerel in the summer (in abundance at times). Lots of small species between the rocks aswell. Has been known to throw up some surprises like Tadpole fish. If you're game it can also produce some decent conger! There's platform at the end. Just dangle a worm bait over the end for Wrasse and away you go! If you fancy some real fun the Marina area is frequented by shoals of Mullet which are largely ignored by most but if that's your thing then there are some pretty decent ones! Sea Cliffs rocks is a popular spot for the Mackerel bashers in the summer but if you like being left alone is probably best avoided! World of Sea Fishing did a review of the Strangford to Bangor fishing opportunities a while back. Mostly from a boat but some shore marks are emntioned. You can find it here: worldseafishing.com/regional/ni...unty_down.shtml Hope this has helped? If you need any more info The trap and tackle shop in Bangor is a good place to start or post again and i'll do my best to help out. Good Luck!
