  1. "I've been a member of the BFSS since it was created and a member of WAGBI (its precursor) for many years prior to that, and I can assure all that I've never seen any evidence that the BFSS promotes 'killing for kicks'". Hare Coarsening, Fox Hunting? And who was it, if not members of the BFSS, and its supporters, who contributed to the demise of the otter? ...or do they do it for the good of the animals?
  2. A female angler(or male) wearing 'Charlie'
  3. Chesters, probably the best way to do it would be to reduce the gain of the amp, putting a resistor in series with the speaker could cause a loading problem. Alternatively, dunk it in a bucket of non conductive water. [ 26. July 2004, 10:34 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  4. about 22m ohm should do the trick [ 26. July 2004, 10:18 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  5. I agree entirely Graham, but we are also fighting those amongst us who should know better. Whilst walking a stretch of my club water on Saturday with a game angler, he told me of a time last summer that whilst just starting a session after sea trout he came across a big fish flapping about in very shallow water. The fish turned out to be e barbel of about 10lb's and was obviously in a poor state. A little while later whilst trying to revive it a young chap came asking if he had seen a barbel as he had lost one out of his keepnet. Turned out he dropped it when showing off his catch to a mate. Bloody a*se hole. Sadly the fish did not recover.
  6. Steve, should not 'alerted' be replaced with 'awakened'? [ 26. July 2004, 02:20 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  7. Did I say she was a she Peter? We live in modern times now you know, but she is. Although I doubt whether a former miners union leader is of the opinion she is a lady after being told to go **** himself at a Labour Party conference.
  8. The truth of the matter is.... Do you know, I cant honestly remember.I have lived with a politician now for so many years I don't know what the truth is any more. [ 26. July 2004, 10:12 AM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  9. As a fellow countryman of yours once said, "you can't be serious". Only the little known North East and Northumbria regulations, but will give you a basic, primary, education of English angling protocol. Newt:Read and digest,Byelaws 'over which control can not be effected' If yer not there, yer can't control it, can yer? [ 26. July 2004, 08:52 AM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  10. In doing what you suggest Phil, all anglers will be down to your level of 'Hi Tech' tackle. I'm sure you still have vivid memories of not catching carp from the early 50's. [ 25. July 2004, 09:42 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  11. Newt, Hope you are not suggesting that you leave your rods unattended whilst strolling off to chat with long lost friends. I don't know what the laws say in the States, but over here the angler should be in control of his/her rods at all times. Unattended Rods It is unlawful to leave a rod and line in the water which is unattended or over which control can not be effected.

  13. Newt, Don't wish to be pedantic, but are you not being a little pedantic? Come to think of it, THAT'S why I aint been on this site for some time. We all love a smart arse! If you really wanted to be REALLY pedantic, Cranfield gets his commas and apostrophes mixed up, but who's checking. AND what about those who choose not to CAPITALISE at the start of sentence? Not REALLY doing your job Newt, are you? [ 23. July 2004, 07:42 AM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  14. You should have added booze induced sleep. Dont know about the rest of you but if I am awakened by a sudden buzzer type sound I don't know whether i'm on this earth or fullers.(and thats without the booze) Certainly in no state to be 'in control' of a rod. Hang the lot I say
  15. but not a fact they shout about is it? A little like Tony Blair pretending to be a socialist-but it got him to be PM [ 23. July 2004, 12:05 AM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  16. I do not know of a single angler who would 'Celebrate' the killing and brutal torture of a fish the way that fox hunters do when they are 'there at the kill' Sorry, but we are worlds apart.
  17. Another sparkling Chatsworth Angling Fair 25.05.2004 25th May 2004 This, the Silver Jubilee of the Chatsworth Angling Fair at Chatsworth House on the banks of the River Derwent, was one of the UK’s biggest ever angling-focused events. Thousands of people were able to watch and take part in demonstrations, see the latest angling gizmo and rub shoulders with the fishing famous. Chatsworth was of great value to our Campaign as it gave us a chance to project our message to a very wide and eclectic audience. Chatsworth Angling Fair is the anniversary of our launch, and this was our fourth anniversary. This year our stand featured varied debates ranging from education, promotion, protection, women in angling and angling’s future. A great many came to hear the likes of Bob Nudd, Ian Heaps, John Wilson, Bob James, myself, Mark Bowler and Chris Jackson, whilst during the intervals the eager audience was treated to the culinary expertise of the Head Chef at the Isaac Walton Hotel. The Fair, as well as being great fun, was beneficial for the business-end of the Campaign as it enabled a great many meetings to take place because so many of angling’s movers and shakers were in the same place at the same time. Our newly appointed campaign Chairman, Baroness Golding, was able to meet with the Environment Agency, Get Hooked on Fishing and Dreamstore and to understand better the shape of angling in the context of young people, an area in which she has a particular interest. The show was also blessed with glorious weather – and shocked those who had come prepared for the usual mud bath. Chatsworth is also confirmation of the health of angling within its followers, who are up beat and clearly growing in numbers. Charles Jardine Director Campaign for Angling I just wonder which CAMPAIGN our? Charles is referring to He even refers to himself in the same tense as Bob Nudd and Ian Heaps, at least he's a tryer. 18. Check out the link to The British Field Sports Society web page The CA true colours or what? I know the header shows Countryside Alliance.org but put in www.bfss.org and hay-presto! [ 22. July 2004, 10:29 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  19. I personally would have no association what so ever with the CA, and to my mind Charles Jardine is nothing but an apologist for coarse angling. One of the stated aims of the CA leadership is to get rid of any rural representing Labour Party M P's, and on that basis I find it difficult to understand how some Labour M P,s can have ANY connection with the organisation. I may have said this before, but the CA under it's true colours, The British Field Sports Ass,( I think it was Ass) threatened angling clubs in the Malton area that they would lose their fishing rights if the clubs did not show support for the local Ass'n. Now all of a sudden, as if by magic, we are all brothers fighting the same cause.
  20. Judy, Would they do that at home? From some of the s..t holes I have visited over the last 40 or so years...YES
  21. Those anglers who when first hook a fish, then look all around them so that they know that others know they have a fish on...if you know what I mean.
  22. hector There is a small head of pike on the free stretch of the river Wear, Durham. You can fish downstream of the fish pass/ weir on the south bank with fairly open bank down to Kepier Farm. About 3-4 years ago it was fished quite often by pike anglers but I have not heard of any of late, always worth a try though.Don't be surprised if you come in contact with the odd big chub either. Do not be tempted to fish from the roadside railings or you could get yourself taken for one of the fish snatchers. jon_a Don't like the look of the new fishery at Washington, would have to be desperate I think.
  23. The new Act has far reaching consequences if carried out. The people who put these laws together are not known for lateral thinking though. No one in their right mind would knowingly inflict pain, suffering and injury to an animal, but some are unable to differentiate between the different life forms. Under the new legislation a gardener could be fined up to £20k for putting out slug pellets, and heaven help them if a cat were to eat them. Looks like slugs, snails worms and caterpillars etc etc will be banned as bait now we have the bunny huggers in charge. AND you can bet your bottom dollar that some of the new Lib Dem councils will be pushing this new law to the letter. I have already e-mailed my MP on the issue. 'fishing is nature's medical prescription' I have heard that in some parts of the country GP's are writing out prescription for, for patients suffering with stress(paid for by the NHS) a round of golf at local clubs. How about giving people suffering from stress a membership of the local angling club, of course paid for by the NHS [ 10. July 2004, 01:33 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  24. But you are quickly catching up on the 'ageing body' side of things Nigel
