one set called heliclear
basically two types of antibiotic (depending on patient sensitivity) and a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) to reduce acid production
antibiotics for fist week ppi for two weeeks in total
ppi supposed to reduce acid, to allow antibiotics to desroy H.pylori bug, then further week of lw acid to allow regeneration and healing of gastric mucosa
occasionally needs to be repeated
blood test only repeatable 3 yearly due to antibodies still present.
breath test repeatable if required after min one month.
breath test dead simple, only four breaths reqd.
1 must be fasted 6hr min.
2 no antibiotic therapy for 28days
3 no ppi for 14 days
4 drink juice (to stimulate stomach)
5 5mins later Two normal breaths via straw into glass tubes (sealed after breath) BASLINE CO2
6 another smaller drink with non tastng urea tablet in.
7 wait 30 mins (no eating drinking or smoking)
if H.pylori present reacts with urea and co2 released
8 two more breaths in 3rd and4th vials sealed an off to lab.(post urea co2 values)
patient and GP informed of result and treatment if reqd.
