  1. Congratulations again Paul ! Just get the pictures on so we can drool.... Neil..
  2. They are certainly a stable boat that have great sea keeping quallities. They are not designed for the sea conditions in the above picture but it's good to see what you can throw at them. The Scupper went through the waves in this picure and made it out into clean water. Don't get any ideas though, the man in the kayak is an accomplished idiot, with years of experience at being stupid.... Neil.
  3. They are good for coming back in through a wee bit of surf as well, upside down that is !!!! Neil.
  4. A quick sketch that I done that might help you a bit. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y60/salinitysam/anchor.jpg There's loads of variations and options available. Some people keep the Lazy line attached to the boat all the time and clip off the anchor cord coil with a half hitch. This saves you having a locking cleat fixed to the boat. If you have a permanently attached lazy line you will also need to put a small buoy onto the anchor reel as well . Neil.

    Kayak records

Yer right there Les.. Guv. Just spoken to the captor of the "Big Yin" . I think he might be having a few beers tonight. Neil.
  6. Just a thought.... Could we have a topic for the Heaviest Kayak caught specimen for each species. ie a Conger, a Tope, a Cod , a Pollock , etc. Each time you catch a decent fish post it under the relevant species topic and claim the new AN record. A master list could be kept updated under a separate topic heading. All fish could be returned and honesty would be relied upon to keep it above board. A photo and quick measurement would suffice. I am sure it would provide a good bit of banter and it might be interesting just how many species we could register in a year. Neil.
  7. No problem, I will post some pics tomorrow. I appreciate the Tarpon rear carry handle is a bit further back than the P13, but I think it could still be fed through the carry loop and tied off behind the seat. Will post some pics as soon as I can. Neil.
  8. I fitted a trolley system to the P13 last year but now never use it at all. I find that 90% of the time, for my type of fishing, anchoring off the stern is ideal. I have fitted a conventional lazy line, about 8’ long, clipped off on the rear carrying toggle. The anchor reel is loaded with 100yds of 3mm paracord . This whole reel can be buoyed off at the end of the lazy line. If I need to clip off quick and run with a fish I lean back and release the karabiner. You can then pick up the buoy on your return. There's no drilling required. The same can be done from the bow if you want. It’s just a modification on what I used to use on my boat . The only pitfall with this system is retreival, I often fish depths of up to 250ft. It's a long haul on the way back up.... I am sure there are pictures on an earlier thread of this system. If you need more info give me a shout and I will post a few pictures. Neil.
  9. Got my copy yesterday, Some nice pics, and a good article as well. There's still a shortage of kayak articles in the fishing mags. I can see the day coming when a dedicated Kayak fishing mag will hit the shelves in the UK. Kayak Fishing Monthly...... Get the bod's sorted out at Warners Group Simon. Neil.

    DRY SUITS

That's good to hear. I think I might look a bit further into the Typhoon range of suits then. A bit of feedback from someone who owns one is always better than the sellers blurb. I see they start as low as £149.00 now. There are a few sellers on ebay knocking out the breathable ones at £189.00. Research time I think.... Neil..

    DRY SUITS

I am thinking of buying a dry suit for the colder months. I have Yak dry trousers and top at the moment but I find that I am still getting wet through the ankle seals and the cag to trouser seal. My brother has bought a HH dry suit and we tested it out last weekend. There was a good bit of movement in the sea so we paddled off shore a bit and he jumped out. I stayed by as he took a swim before climbing back aboard. After going ashore we found the suit had leaked at several points. After conducting a few tests, he found you can spray a hose against the suit while you are wearing it and you will remain dry. If you enter the water and apply a little water pressure against the suit, it leaks. A quick phone call today to Hammond Dry suits was helpful. They told him that most breathable suits will leak under pressure and some of the cheaper ones are not worth owning. I was about to buy a Typhoon, as they are on offer at the moment. Hammond say they will make a suit that will fit the bill for kayak use. The suit would have a non breathable lower section and breathable top. The cost £326.00. Well worth the investment if it works. I am intending to fish throughout the winter so staying dry is paramount. Has anybody had any experience with dry suits, good or bad ? http://www.hammond-drysuits.co.uk/view_category.asp?cat=35 Neil.
  12. Just wait until the FPO gets at them Luffers. You will never live it down if she boats the the big one you lost. Neil.
  13. Some of them have small scuppers and the tear drop venturi ports as well, like mine. Just depends which country they came from. Neil.
  14. Well then, get your hooks sharpened Paul. It looks like we could have back up. Welcome Pete, I am sure we will meet up somewhere, I take it you will be fishing the sea lochs throughout the winter as well. Dave, I had a quick look at the chart and the Coryvrecken looks like it is in hitting distance from Crinan, I fancy a paddle through there on the flood. Do you fancy acting as support boat. Neil.
  15. Nice spray decks in the re-construction. Neil.
  16. Mmm. I would have the wee wrasse down for a female Cuckoo, is there not three small blotches on the rear part of the dorsal. I could be wrong like.? Neil.

    Bognor

I'm sure you will be made to feel welcome on here Luffers. Keep us up to date with your catches. You will need to get a Malibu 2 for the SFI though..... Neil.
  18. You may not loose the flatties you talk about here but I bet the hooks are so far down, they are sh*ting them. Varivas, semis and full circles will reduce the amount of damaging deep hook ups. Neil.

    FISH id

Dale, we have had some weirdo Wrasse at Torness before, they usually spark off a bit of an argument, I posted a picture of one on NESA a few years ago and no one could ID it. I think the little blighters do a bit of swinging..... Neil.
  20. Welcome to AN Neil, Neil... Mmmm, I can see some confuzzledness afoot.
  21. You will get one here for under 50 notes. I would advise a dry bag as well though, my first one lasted 2 months before it took a swim. http://www.compass24.com/cgi-bin/abnetshop...ernliste=987910 Neil.
  22. How far South though Paul ??? Neil.
  23. Cheers for that, I think this will be the one.... http://www.ukdigital.co.uk/olympus_mju_720sw_silver.htm Just need to save my pennies up now. Neil.
  24. Cracking report there paintfly, and some nice pictures. I think your camera might be a bit damp now though.... What kind do you use? I take it it is in a waterproof housing. Neil.
  25. Hi Jon, As I said it was a shame we did not meet up but I think you had better advice on tap than we could give you. It was a 4 hour drive for us and I was on a flyer. We arrived at 3pm on Monday and put into the water straight away to catch the HW slack period. When we came out we were heading round to Port Logan to catch the ebb into darkness but it was just to rough. We got our heads down for a nap so we could hit an early morning shot, by 5.30am we were afloat and out into Logan bay. At LW we came in and nipped back into Luce Bay for 2 hours. By 3pm I was on the road again heading for home. To say I was on a hit and run mission was an understatement. We did pass through Drummore on Monday night and seen your car parked up next to the caravan. There was no one in the caravan and the thought of going to the bar would have been the ky bosh for my trip... I can't walk away from a pint....... As for the others that did not turn up, the weather played a major roll in that early in the week. Shad from the site text me to say he was knackered after a 4 day stint in Wales, and was heading for home, can't blame him as the wind was still howling from the North at that point. Neil.
