  3. Came out on the boat with me a few months ago a really nice guy with the interest of anglers at heart.
  4. Where the hells wurzel he is in hiding. Its just nice to see just how things really were back in the old days one day things might recover to what they once were but it will take generations we have gone that far down the line, i can just remeber when i was a kid seeing the fish quay full of big cod layed out in rows to big for the boxes caught mainly with a scene net that was in the late sixties .
  5. My lord what a night hope wednesdays weather is a bit kinder
  6. My lord wheres wurzel he said there was no cod in the early 1900ss and no they are not computer enhanced wurzel
  7. Yes glennk they are frank sutcliffs photographs but when you talk to old school they can relate back to the thirties and the forties and it was teeming with big cod hand lines is what they used probably wiht crap bait on but it didnt matter in them days as there were great numbers of fish there most of the time anyway they will take anything even rotten mussels.
  8. Nice one steve there are people who visit this forum who think discards dont exist Its beneficial to all to cut discards for anglers and the lads who work in the commercial fishing industry all will reap the benefits.
  9. There seems to be a lot of sense in that post seaside. Seaside the locals who are working the prawn grounds to the north of whitby are going haywire because of the intense fishing on the prawn grounds by boats which are using as many 4 nets at any one time with massive catching caperbilities there is only one way the prawn fishing is going to go eventually and that is up the creek, most of the boats that work the prawn grounds north of whitby are fairly small boats who make a nice living out of the job but are now been invaded by boats which in time will do massive damage to the nerdrop population boats as big as 90ft are fishing on prawns no wonder the small boys are having a winge there livelyhood is at stake here.
  10. Funny thing is colin i have seen photos from the late 1800ss and the early 1900ss with fishermen carry big cod up the scaurs which they had caught with there longlines try that now and you wouldnt have a hope.
  11. But that is the excitment les, : sometimes i if you have had a bag full you seem to fly up the cliff as if you have no weight in your bag what so ever its coming up with nothing which is the hard bit. :
  12. Last night was our club match and looking at the presure chart yesterday i knew there was a front coming over around evening time with heavy rain and strong winds associated but as you do you go prepared. But what a night it was the first hour of the match was just windy then the rain arrived and for three hours it must have been gusting upto force 9 of even 10 at times and with driving rain it was one hell of a night just to catch a codling which is what i managed just one ,one of the guys in our club said after we got back to the pub after the match he had caught a codling and put it in his fish bag and a gust of wind litterally blew his bag from where he was stood and blew it into the sea he said he has been fishing from the shore for over 30 years and said he had never fishing in conditions like it before but what a way to loose a codling they were certainly hard fought for last night.
  13. Ok slackline fishing news should get there house in order first before picking on angling there is more in numbers of fish with discards go back over the side at certain times of the year than probaby all the anglers along the east coast of uk take for a full year is that better now.
  14. To put it mildly it has spoiled the forum on sea fishing steve.
  15. It has come to a sad day when the commercial angling press start compairing angling catches we all know this doesnt happen every day .
  16. The reason these boys had a record landing was PRICE and the reason why the demand is now higher than it used to be is simple BLACK FISH is more of less non existant now fisherman should have copped onto this years ago less time at sea more money it was the buyers who made big bucks by buying cheap fish now they have to pay some of the big mackeral boats have realized this land less get more for what you land makes sense if there is less on the market you get better prices for less work and the less effort leaves some for tommorow.
  17. Mikes 7lb cod for the heaviests out of matches was beaten last night by your mr stonethorpe it now stands at over 8 lb i think i will have a go after a sea and see if there is a double looming some where.

    Fish I.D

During the seventies we used to catch them just as it came dusk on the peir when we were fishing for mackeral it was lifting with them in those days they were a nuisence, i was working a wreck back in may north of whitby about 5 miles from the shore there was a big feed mark next to the wreck and i was amaized when the codling we were catching were absolutly full of scads there must have been a large shoal swarming round the wreck that is the first time i have come across that.
  19. Whiting allways come to the shore when the water is colured when you have had a blow as soon as it settles and goes calm they are they there but the fishing by the large french trawlers and they are large must have some affect on the numbers of whiting going onto the beaches what happens when people go rabbiting with long nets they can clean an area out but that doesnt happen when you are trawling does it
