    VHF Warning

I done my radio test last year and it was a doddle. A bit of common sence is all that is needed at the end of the day. As for the plonkers who don't know what they are doing with a vhs radio then thank god that the R.N.L.I. are well trained as a boat near us found out last year. At the end of the day how much is your life worth?
  2. You can have the birds nest if you want. I can't give it away at the moment.

    SMOOTHIESSSS

The place to try in the summer is baggy point near croyde. I haven't fished it for many years now but the persone to ask is dillydangle, he lives just around the corner, sort of. and welcome to the forum
  4. Still yet to conferm saturday dilly will let you know as soon as poss. Chucking him in would not have been fair on the mullet
  5. First of all may i say welcome to the forum Dozza You will find that there are people on here with some strong feelings on certain spiecies of fish in our waters. I for one, don't have any preference towards a certain speices of fish but am concerned about the way fishing folk act. Cartwheeling doggies back into the sea because they are a pest and foul hooking mullet are not good acts for the fishing fraturnity. All it take is for the local papers to get hold of this story and before you know it the pier will be closed to all anglers. It's happened before at Ilfracombe and will happen again if this kind of thing keeps happening. Dillydangler and myself were there Sunday afternoon and there was one chap spinning feathers then. At this time of year he could be only after the mullet to be honest. We spoke to him about it in a round about way as not to cause offence but he continued on, although he agreed it was unsporting. We spoke about the lenght of time it takes these fish to grow to any size and after a while he changed over to other tactics. I don't know if it was because we pointed out the facts about mullet to this guy, but if it was then hopefully he will pass on the information to the next people treating fish the same way. Fishing is my hobby and i would like to keep it that way. It is my escape from the presurers of work. I don't want to be bogged down with licences, rule and regulations but can see it going that way. This isn't a dig at you Dozza Just trying to explain how some of us feel.

    fishy places

last week i was looking at going further a field with my boat and trying ventures new. Torquay was first port of call (only as I was working there for the day) and it's marina, for the price of a visitors mooring for a week (£90.00 for 7 days). Next was a chandelers to get a chart for the area. Back home I started to look at the chart for possible 'fishy' areas other than wrecks on the chart. This got me thinking what do others look for when entering new waters. On the same topic, when going to a new shore mark, In your opinion only (don't want to start a riot) what constitutes a good looking mark?
  7. I think he was to p*$$ed to hum for me. more intent on spiking me. Strange about the swim bladder?
  8. Dillydangler and my-self went to Ilfracombe this afternoon to fish the pier. When we got there it was blowing a hooly, an eastly at about 20 - 30 mph and bitterly cold (What did you say the wind was dillydangler?12mph?) Anyway being hardened fishing people,we set up and cast out. With the wind being so strong it was impossible to tell if we had a bite or not so guess work was implored. After a short time i brought in, baited up and cast out again. It was on this cast, that the clock struck one, well it sounded like it,even though it was half past four. First catch of the day, the pier light. this caused an almighty birds nest. problely the best i've ever had Anyhow not to be disheartened. on with another reel and cast out again. By now hands fingers feet toes and other bits had gone numbe. Things weren't going well. Dillydangler always gets the first fish but not even a nudge. Debating wether to move or go home i reeled in this little chap. he didn't seem to happy about it all and stuck his spike that is just behind his eye into my hand. Anybody know what it is?
  9. Transport manager for a local coach and bus company, at the moment it looks like I should have taken the offer of taking over my parents cheese stall in the market
  10. well if we're going for this photo thing I took this a few months ago thought the sign was intresting
  11. Theres always the south west when its not raining.
  12. Well today has been alot easyer and there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. The department of transport has been up and given the workshop a good going over and that seemed to fair ok. A few problems were picked up and they seemed happy with the vehicle repair and inspetion records. I am the transport manager for the company and the owner is strugling to cope which is not suprising. Corporate man slaughter charges are being looked into at the moment but I think that all that could be done to prevent such an accident was. The mood of the work force has picked up and the initial anguish from the local people seems to have calmed down. It's strange but when the chips are down it is suprising how people react to help out. And it always seems to be the last persone you would expect. The driver of the vehical was Polish and loved the job here. Unfortunatly there was two of them working for us, both were realy decent blokes and they were here through an agency. Both have been whisked away this afternoon and nobody knows where they have gone. The one who didn't have the accident has been told to come back in about two years and we will have a job for him. It' a shame that an inocent has to suffer in such a way. Unfortunatly all polish drivers in the area will be tared with the same brush. We are waiting for the dreaded tachograph inspection now, when they turn up will be the real headache. Drivers hours are a mine field as any psv/hgv driver will know. But I'm sure that things will work out one way or another.
  13. Thank you everybody on here for the support today is another day and I,ll see how things go. Dan I expect you saw it on the local new.
  14. Before this turns into a slanging match it seems that somebody is missing the point. The young lady in question, I have know for about 10 years. I have driven her to school on many occasions and watched her grow up and move onto collage. Monday night she was the last persone left on the bus and we had a realy good chat as we went to her stop. She told me how her studying was going at collage and what she wanted to do when she left, how many kids she wanted and , well , you get the message. I only came back on line as i was going to have a walk and i met the driver concerned. He was coming over to see me. I don't think that he is of a stable mind at all and am extreamly concered for his welfare. All that he could do was appologize for being a murderer over and over again. This made me think about allot of things, out of all of this I am a lucky one in a way. I have lost a friend that i know will affect allot of other people more than me. I never loved her not like her parents and that must be a terable thing to happen. I have the deepest sympathy for the family. The driver is working away from home and has a wife and young child back home. He does not know how to tell his family what has happened. I have to deal with the press for about a week and then when the court case starts. The family of the young lady and the driver have to live with this for the rest of their lifes.
  15. sorry guys just have to log off, would love to go walking with the good woman but it hit her just as hard we work together. the tears are now blurring my sight and i've one hell of a head ache.may log back on later.
  16. Well nearly through today. have dodged the presses questions to a degree. They seemed to know more than us in the office. The driver has been released untill the 21march although the information given to us is putting the blame squarly on the driver. It seemed sureal to have to watch the bus being lifted up the bank on lunch time telly. Moral is so low at the moment in the whole of the work force it is hard to know what to do. The drivers of the bus sevice are thinking of clubbing together to get a large bouket of flowers to sent to the family, indepently from the company. I am unsure if this is a good thing or not the drivers feel they must do something. what do you lot think. help me out folks.
  17. This is what we are dealing with http://www.westernmorningnews.co.uk/displa...wsNodeId=142722 The driver has been arrested just waiting the out come
  18. It doesn't take them long http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/4601076.stm
  19. Try to make drivers understand that they cant say anything before the go out of the gates. All they want ot know who it was and how it happened. It's been on the radio three times this morning so far.
  20. I am dreading this morning. Last night on of our vehicals was involed in a r.t.a and a young lady on board was killed. It seems like it was our drivers fault. The problem is that i know the young lady in persone. Last night at the sceen the parents called me a murdering bastard and I can understand there greif. To-day the press will be out in force asking questions and pushing for infomation. there will be no releif for me and at all the time I will have to look like a profesional. I haven't slept alnight and don't know if I can hold it to-gether. I don't why i am posting this as i know that no one on here can realy help, but it does help me in a small way as i know i can talk about with out it being plastered all over the radio or papers May her sole rest in peace.

probly thought it was lucky to escape the seal then

    cod wound

this one came aboard this morning but what caused the damage to it's lateral line?, A seal maybe, one was seen in the area. the fish is just over 3 lb.
  23. The morning started at 4:30,Temp -3. A quick scrape of the windscreen and then hitch up the trailer. Off to Braunton and pick up Dillly dangler. The roads had been salted but there was one streach of road, on a bend, that had a sheet of ice right across it. A quick bit of corrective steering and landrover and trailer was back on track. 5:30 collect dillydangler from house and continue to Appledore slip way to launch on low water. we waited for a bit more light before heading off to the chosen mark as the sand banks can catch out the unwary. 15 mins into the sailing the depth gauge shot to 4 foot and we came to a grinding halt. Out with the oars and push our selfs off and away we went to the mark. We dropped anchor and baited up only to see a seal swimming around close to the shore with a very larg bass in its mouth. the seal took no notice of us and continued on with his own little world of catching our fish and working it's way back out to sea. we all cast out and my mate jason was ordered to put the kettle on. "where's the coffee and milk" was the crie from the cuddy. It was still in the foot well of the landrover. Then in came the first fish of the day, a coddling of about 1lb to Jason. He cast out again and was instantly into another fish which was alot better. A codling of 3.3lbs then disaster struck, the rest of the worm was with the coffee and milk, with just a few worm on the boat it was decided to return to Appledore and collect the bait and coffee. At the slipway dillydangle jumped ashore ,ran up to the landrover and returned to see Jason and myself strugling to start the main engine , slowly drifting with the tide up river. The stater moter had packed up big time and things were getting abit hairy so out came the reserve outboard, a honda 10 hp. The only thing was it did not want to start for love nor money. out with the oars and start to row to the quay and saftey. with the fishing going the way it was it promised to be a good day but we shall never know for sure. Who said the fish bit least with the wind from the east? Still everybody on board are safe and well that is the main thing. the original trip was a mark well out to sea, at least a 45 min steam at full power.

I was winning the case with the local parish council but the hose on the landrover power steering leaked all over the road. buy the time i got home the road was red and so were the councelers stood next to it. best not to say to much about things over the next few weeks.
