  1. Thanks Newt, appreciate the info. Since I am looking to buy online, I believe I will steer clear.
  2. Had them to 4lb last June off the very South-East tip of Scotland, on worm baits fished from a very small boat 100 yards offshore, over kelp.
  3. I hope no-one offers shooting any protection
  4. I should really buy the tide table each year, but I want it for Berwick and I live 300+ miles away. I suppose I could phone the tackle shop and get them to send me one or something
  5. Speaking of finding things on the shore, I've found a plastic container from which somebody's ashes had been scattered at sea (still a bit ashy) and a discarded colostomy bag. Both unwelcome.
  6. Spring, I'm having a week's holiday in June, and am trying to decide which week to go for. Obviously the tides could have an impact on my decision.
  7. Hi all, I'm looking for an online tide table - but all the ones I find only tell you the tides for the next 7-14 days, and the tides I want to find out about are in June. Any suggestions?
  8. One more question - I'm seeing these carp rods described as either 'marker' rods or 'spod' rods - sometimes the same rod comes under both headings. Which better suits the sea? I have no idea what they mean
  9. Anyone use these from a harbour? The film canister just above the lead idea, maybe stuffed with squid and macky, couple of holes pierced in it? I'm a beginner, so dunno how this would go in harbour conditions, any suggestions? Also sounds good fished from a small boat inshore.
  10. Cheers for all the info guys. Looking at the panthers with interest, especially because of the price, but also hearing a lot of good things about the Fox 'Warrior' carp rods, any thoughts on the suitability of one of these? http://www.fishingmagic.com/review/reviewp...698811342447338 The reviews on there are excellent, but any reasons it shouldn't suit my purposes? Once again, thanks for all your help
  11. How much for P+P on the warrior, if you still have it?
  12. Like this one?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1495&item=7147972295&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
  13. Cheers guys, I've emailed him. One more basic question - when out in a boat last year, I was using a fixed spool, and I was always last to get my weight to the surface when moving on - often with a knackered arm. Is this down to using the fixed-spool?
  14. These are all extremely basic questions - I have never used a multiplier in my life, so don't know where to start. 1 Why are some multilpliers 'boat' reels, others 'shore' reels - is it just to do with suitability for casting or are there other factors? 2 Are there multi-purpose multipliers that could be used for both? 3 Will a multiplier fit onto the rods I've been using with fixed spools, generally? 4 I hear a lot about birds-nesting in the hands of beginners - is it fairly easy to get the hang of things quickly? 5 There are reconditioned multipliers on ebay? Bargain or steer clear? Cheers, Andy
  15. Anyone know if these are still available?
  16. Anyone used the Shimano BeastMaster, as listed here? http://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/Veals_Cata...inning_128.html I do like the name
  17. BREAM, where did you find the ron Thompsons at that price - I'm finding them to be at £40 quid plus at the moment
  18. I'm a fixed spool angler, not yet dared to try a multiplier. Perhaps now is the time to buy one.
  19. A friend says this is worth a look at that price - any views? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW
  20. BREAMAGAIN, do you and your mates regularly use these in the sea? Sounds quite an interesting option. Any problems with the salt water on the rings etc?
  21. Cheers for all the help " The rings are of a very low quality and unless you wash the salt water away after every use you'll soon find the top rings rusting away. I didn't wash mine at all and I had 2 of them (9ft and 12ft). They both had the top rings rust away between 7 and 12 months." Reviews like that make me glad I didn't just buy the first £40 rod I saw
  22. Thanks for the replies guys, keep em coming. And yes I did, I'm a badgerhound
  23. Well, not too high to be honest, I'm after something that's decent value and won't fall apart within a year, rather than a world-beater. Anything from £30-60 would be ideal, could possibly go a little higher.
  24. Hello all, I am a very irregular sea angler (ten days a year in Berwickshire, and that's it) looking to buy a mid-price all round shore rod. I fish around Burnmouth mostly, and have got a boat rod, but have always used a spinning rod from the shore. This has been trodden on twice now, and so is missing the last foot, so it's time to buy a new one. Basically, I use it for harbour fishing, and occassionally from the rocks or a little boat 150 yardsish from shore. I'm looking for something light enough to be able to feel a 1lb coley or wrasse in the harbour, while also being able to get at least a bit of distance when casting from the rocks. Reading that back, I know it sounds as if I need to buy two rods, but any recommendations? I think I'd prefer a spinning rod with a reasonable casting distance to a beachcaster type. Cheers, Andy
