  1. Nice report Simon. Thanks. It is amazing how strong a current can get at a narrow inlet. I got caught in one a couple of years ago paddling a T-120 and do not want to do that again. Now I pay close attention to the tides. Les
  2. The prototype look like the Scupper Pro TW. Here is is on the O.K. site. http://www.oceankayak.com/scupperprotw.html
  3. Here is a link to a yak fishing site in SE Florida. There is a lot of good info on yak design etc. It's worth a read. http://www.ftlauderdaleyakfishingclub.org/
  4. Use some '303' on the rubber parts. It's great on yaks too. The product is a super UV protectant and available in most marine stores. Not cheap, but a little goes a long way and keeps the hull of the yak from fading. I use the Thule Hydro Glide and it works great.
  5. I was in the UK in the early 70's when I was in the submarine service. Went drinking with Royal Navy sailors and marines...a hardy bunch is an understatement! Those guys had hollow legs! Florida also has bugs that like flesh for dinner but there are ways around that. Nice color scheme on the Dorado. Great stability too. Do you find it to paddle with less effort than a poly yak? I paddled a composite yak a few weeks ago and that sold me on a Pelican. I am getting the sail kit too. I'm not sure how much the Pelican will be yet. A Dorado equipped like yours is $1750 delivered w/o the wing paddle. What are the dimesions of the tank well? Is that a hatch behind the well? GW is not on my list of favorites. You may have gotten a better price due to the exchange rate. [ 19. August 2005, 03:06 PM: Message edited by: Les Lammers ]
  6. Enjoy yer yak Simon! Please post some pics. There are a few Kaskazi yaks here in South Florida. Those that own them love 'em. I'm ordering a Pelican and won't get it until February of 06.
  7. The yak may be unsinkable but my shorts would be stinkable!
  8. The cuckoo wrasse was my best fish Is that the blue and orange one? If so, pretty fish. Nice going.
  9. Have a look at the Saltwater Sally on this site. http://www.hildebrandt.net/index.html Weedless and the hook is easily changed. I use a loop knot. *I* don't like swivels as I believe they alter the action of the lure.
  10. I use the Rapala tool but I do not lift fish to weigh them. We have a lot of fish w/ teeth in Florida. It also helps to keep the fish still and steady when removing the hook. I stow it behind the seat and thether it with a paddle leash. There is nothing worse than trying to remove a hook from your flesh in a bobbing yak. Once was enough for me. You just have to decide what works best for you.
  11. Here are a couple of sites that have rigging ideas. www.paddle-fishing.com www.kayakfishingstuff.com http://www.ftlauderdaleyakfishingclub.org/ The last one has a good article on kayak design etc.
  12. Olly, The yak should not leak. If it is under warranty I suggest requesting/demading a replacement. OK is now part of Johnson Outdoors and perhaps the Bean Counters are shaving quality control? The P13 is very popular and they may be letting some out that should have been rejected. Also, there is a product called 303, a UV protectant. Wipe the yak down every 6 weeks or so and the 303 will keep it lookin as new. Les Florida, USA aka 'The Colonies'
