  2. i dont get to go fishing that often so i will go whatever the weather. seem to remember you posted a link to your film before.
  3. i don't care what i catch, i just want to learn how to fish better. i was using 4lb line, small waggler and single red maggot on a size 16 hook, i tried different shoting pattens - most of the shot up near the float and just a dust shot about 3 or 4 inch from the hook, i tried moving the shot down near the hook to get down though the weed, speading the shot out. i fished most of the time just on bottom, i did try over depth and up in the water but with no luck. i used a few balls silver x super red ground-bait and was throwing in half a dozen maggots every 4 or 5 Minutes there was small fish swimming about and leaping out after flys. the water is now green coloured but i did go and have a look around before it coloured up and the weed was a blanket of large cabbage looking plants that covered the bottom of all the lake. its a very nice lake surrounded by trees, this does make casting out a bit on the awkward side from some of the swims but i just love the place the only downside is its in a housing estate, i just wish i could fish it better, i must be doing something wrong. i have learnt a lot reading most of the threads on this forum but there is no substitute for practice, i don't get as much time on the lake as i would like so any help anyone can give would be most welcome. the lake has not been on the Lincoln book for very long (think this is the first year) before that it belonged to a fishing club run by a local construction firm, i have been told that when they gave up the water they removed all the large carp next time i go i will take so pics birds eye view here
  4. collingham not to far from me who controls the water there ?
  5. if I'm aloud would it be best to rake a swim clear. how would you fish it ?
  6. today i went to my local lake for a few hours, i plumbed the depth and fished just on bottom with red maggot. the lake has all the usual coarse fish plus a few carp and eels. the bottom of the lake has a layer of large cabbage like weed, so my question is should i be fishing on bottom or on top of the weed ?? i only managed to catch 1 perch and 1 rudd, what was i doing wrong ?
  7. i watched it and did not get it till right at the end, the magpie picks up the bullet in the field drops it in the water and the pike swallows it, poacher puts pike over the fire the bullet gets hot - bang - end of poacher. thought there was some nice shots of the fox but that's about it
  8. i had a stupid grin on my face reading this thread, but i also learnt something as well,
  9. do not use giant hogweed in it, do not even go near the stuff. Giant Hogweed contains a substance within its sap that makes the skin sensitive to ultra violet light. This can result in severe burns to the affected areas, producing swelling and severe, painful blistering. Large, watery blisters usually appear 15 to 20 hours after contact with the sap and exposure to sunlight. Damaged skin will heal very slowly, leaving residual pigmentation that can develop into Phytophotodermatitis - a type of dermatitis that flares up in sunlight for which there is no straightforward treatment. full info on the enviroment agency web site
  10. you would need 2 (a pair)

  12. i saw something on TV, cannot remember which program but this guy was showing how to put spam on a hair rig in the dark. he made the hair out of fuse wire then all he did was push it through bend it over and push it back in.
  13. hi all. this is the first time Ive posted on the carp forum. i need to know the proper name of the controller float (bottom left) the one in the pic came out of a cheap tackle box from lidi, my lad used it and really liked it so i thought i would get some more ready for next summer. Ive looked all over the web but cannot find one anywhere. thanks Jeff
  14. i have seen this from 3 positions, a long time ago i used to help out on a ft narrow boat in Nottingham taking kids out for trips/weekends etc (it even had a lift fitted so wheelchair users could us it) so i know how hard it is to get ft of steel round a sharp bend. i have also been out on one of the small trip boats out of wroxam, with the wife and kids. we hired the boat in the afternoon, we were given no verbal instructions from the two lads at the office, there was a notice in the boat which had a map on it showing how far you could go in a set time and a few rules - speed, giving way to sail craft etc, no were near enough info in my view. and now i am a angler (not a very good one but I'm learning) most of the boats around Lincoln are privately owned narrow boats and are not a problem to me, the only two that i can remember being a pain in the **** were both younger people in what i guess was daddies boat, the first was going far to fast, it did not create wash it was more like a large wave crashing on the beech. the other was a young couple and i think he was thinking more about his female friend than were he was going. could the boating group write up a list of the rules / guidelines that they should follow, and explain other things that boaters do, then us anglers would have a better knowledge of what you are doing. Jeff
  15. sounds great, roll on April and the wife has even asked me what new gear i need to buy, must make the most of this before she goes back to the usual "what more tackle" "how much?"

  17. the wife has just got me a late Xmas pressie. a weeks fishing at REVELS FISHERY in cosmore dorchester dorset. so the big question is - has anybody fished there and is it any good for a novice like myself ? we will be going the second week in april. Jeff
  18. have not fished it myself but while fishing at sycamore farm i got talking to one of the locals and he told me that sycamore lakes was one of the better venues around skegness. he did tell me about one that he thought was better but i cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. all i can remember is its down one of the side roads near to sycamore lakes (on the same side of the road). have you been to skegness in the winter ? it can get cold / windy (something to do with all the flat land we have around here) check the forecast before you go. Jeff
  19. i also downloaded the demo and it does say that there are no fish to catch, i cannot see the point of a demo that will not let you play the game. other games that i have had demos for let you play for a hour or the first level.
  20. "I Once Caught A Fish THIS BIG..." Two avid fishermen go on a fishing trip. They rent all the equipment: the reels, the rods, the wading suits, the rowboat, the car, and even a cabin in the woods. They spend a fortune. The first day they go fishing, but they don't catch anything. The same thing happens on the second day, and on the third day. It goes on like this until finally, on the last day of their vacation, one of the men catches a fish. As they're driving home they're really depressed. One guy turns to the other and says, "Do you realize that this one lousy fish we caught cost us fifteen hundred dollars?" The other guy says, "Wow! It's a good thing we didn't catch any more!"
