  1. Hi Paintfly Its a good point but Im unlikely to be paddling in that kind of surf at night. I think it will be some wipeout to rip it out.. I am off until friday but still need to do some of those neglected jobs, if you know what I mean, so i think its unlikely Im going to get out again. (Unfortunately) Richi, my mast is the temp mast designed just to be mounted when required. Still not had time to try to get the LED light working.
  2. HI Speciman, Happy New Year. The light connector is very water proof as long as you fit the cap if the mast is not fitted. Like yours mine does take on water. I think mainly through the centre hatch particularly if the scupper bungs are fitted to the seat and it takes on water. (Dont have mine in any more, no need with a dry suit) ON the 9.5 mile outing with Richi recently it took on about a pint and that was without the mast fitted and coming back in a good force 4 chop and getting tipped on landing I can live with that. Needless to say when doing an overnighter all the camping equipment in the front hatch is placed in a dry bag. I dont look on it as problem anymore, I just call it personality
  3. NIce one Bill. Just as an addition. You may find people out in non bulkhead kayaks, this makes it very difficult for the person in the water as all the weight goes down to their end. The remedy is simple. Push the kayak up on to the rescue yak so they form a cross. Then simply move the capsized yak up and down using the rescue yak as the fulcrum. This allows the guy in the water to be much more help. He can raise and lower his end much easier as he is not having to lift as much weight. Once the yak is empty turn it over and lay it alongside the rescue yak and follow the instructions in the article. There is also a "H" rescue that is very simple to do with 3 yaks. It is as the "T" but each rescue yak takes one end of the capsized yak, thus forming the "H". They lift each end until the yak is empty; turn it over and form a 3 yak raft with the empty yak in the middle bound together with interlocking paddles. (Those of you that have been on a course will know just how stable this platform is. Instructors normally make students run around the raft.) Once the raft has formed the yakker in the water who at this time has been hanging onto the end of one of the other boats now moves to either the front or rear of his yak and climbs on board. Using the others for leverage as required. The benefit of this technique is that it is less demanding of the guy in the water. He can rest while the others do the donkey work. I strongly recommend when out in groups practicing forming rafts. They are useful in all sorts of emergency situations. They are also good for getting together and having a chat and a brew mid journey.
  4. Like the idea but being the Yorkshireman how many copies would need to be sold to recover the cost! Dont forget to add in storage and distribution if applicable. If it is viable I would be well up for it.
  5. "HAPPY NEW YEAR" May your radio be silent, your flares unused but let your rod be bent and your cool box full. (unless its Bass of course )
  6. Sorry but you are in the wrong sport if you want to stay dry. Higher seating equals less stability, Higher freeboards equal more windage. Besides a small boat wouldn't stay dry in some of the conditions we have safely paddled in. Agree, some storage improvements can be made but these requirements are very individual and difficult to cater for generically. We need to recognise that angling, whilst growing, is still a relelatively small sector in the SOT market and a specifically designed boat would be quite specialist and designed for who, the fly boys, calm water boys, the all weather boys, the only in a blue moon boys, normaly used for the kids boys etc. All would ask for something different. I am sure you can see the problem. Designing several boats to the requirements of such a minority market is not a valid option. The nearest we have seen to date is the Elite. It is a good yak for many but does not suit my needs. I am afraid that the needs of the tackle tarts will always require basic well designed hulls that can take all the nuclear reactors, torpedo tubes and Radar Richi and co can throw at them. I personally feel that there are enough well designed hulls out there that allow all paddlers to find something to suit them and can be modified to meet their own fishing needs. Sometimes I do wish people would look beyond the usual models. Buying a kayak should be as individual as buying a bike. When I go to meets I love seeing the different rig outs and models that turn up but all to often its my Scupper versus the P13s, both great yaks but it would be nice to see some Perceptions, Malibu and Tampons plus a few other perfectly good yaks that are out there. There's my wish for 2007. Now Im off in to get P....d Oh and "Happy New Year!" Hic, Hic
  7. Dont think you got your missus slippers for a second. Probably the latest lure rod, just the right length for a P13. Just as I was posting this Tina came in. You have never seen a such a quick "post & minimise". That was close.
  8. 10 out of 10 for effort Mark. I understand they have a flattie of 82 cm. So its got to be big pike, bull huss or a monster doggie. That should be easy then
  9. Funny enough my wife got an Optio w20 for christmas. Didnt realise it might be good for yakking I must mention it later. Will let you know how it goes
  10. I know mate. The highs and lows of Yak fishing Is it me or is there bit of a breeze picking up.
  11. Good luck to everyone that is still fishing, the KFDU boys are suffering with severe weather as well I believe, so they might well be pleased about the postponement. SM Whats the matter have they run out of suncream
  12. Hadnt seen that one of me following the Tywyn dunking. COuld have been worse I could have been in it at the time, great trip though
  13. If its any help my Lowrance unit M68i has run on my 4 ah battery for 9 hours and my 9ah has run the unit for 2 days. Colour comes into its own when viewing maps it is also more visible. If you are looking for some alternatives take a look at www.jkmax.co.uk Steve is always happy to advise the pros and cons of each unit.
  14. Agree with all the above. However, given that part of the world they could have genuinely been caught out. It can and does happen you only have to listen to ch 16. This is supported by the comments of the RNLI/Coastguard, so lets not be too harsh. He was properly equipped and their safety procedures worked. Sometimes s..t happens.
  15. Nifty you are going to go to hell for that one!! Richi, need to go to Mannings Tackle first thing so probably not before 11 is that OK?
  16. Which site are you looking at, the magic mushroom one. To bad for Kimmeridge but how about Southampton Water up to 1600 high? Go from Hythe Marina to Dibden Bay.
  17. 9 mile round trip for a Pout Still enjoyed thou Thought the paddle back against the tide and wind was never going to end. Just for good measure the surf decided that, although I had technically landed, it would pop up a big one, pick me up and dump me another 20m up the beach. Unfortunately with one leg out I didnt stand much of a chance but it was good to provide the entertainment for the onlookers. Where did they all come from? Great session really.
  18. Just not sure how to go about it down our way Nifty. Bit far to keep travelling up to you all the time Anybody got any ideas where we can put the yaks in for some river/lake pike in the Hampshire/Dorset/West Sussex areas? It is looking as the best option for the comp.
  19. MMMM..............Tempted but if I dont catch a monster its your fault
  20. Yep not looking good! Even looks as if the 27 & 28 is out.. Damn. Might be the time to pimp my ride. Might be on for a session in the Solent on the 27th but the tides are rubbish
  21. Good luck mate! To be honest dont expect any other looneys to come out and play but I do know one guy has the gear. No names I am just looking to make the most of this pell. Who knows when the next chance to do some serious session may be. There is a wreck or 2 that I want to try overnight. Still prospecting the area.
  22. Just been looking at the weather forcast and it looks as if this good spell is looking to break about the 29th. Just in time for the comp. As I have just laid out some dosh for the winter overnight gear I am thinking of going out for an overnighter on 27 & 28th temp is going to be in the high fives Any other nutters up for it? Will be based in Warbarrow area probably launch from Lulworth. Look to fish the midnight high tide; get heads down for a few hours; up with the larks for dawn and fish until sundown. Will be taking stove with a light this time.
  23. Game On. Must admit I kind of lost interest towards the end the season. It was such a dissapointing summer weather wise. I just didnt get the chance to fish loads of areas I had on my prospecting list. In the end it was get out when possible and fish where I could. Why couldn't we have had this week in the summer? Aidy why not lets plan a session with Moonyaker at the beggining of the Mullet season 07 I know he is quite keen as well. Paul
