  3. Clousers and more clousers. Don't forget black versions to. I caught quite a few mackeral on slim banger type flies (with 5/16" thick foam, wrapped with prismatic tape). But anything white/silver and small will work for macs. JRT

  9. You guys are hardcore! Great report. I bet you were knackered.
  10. Thanks GB, Drifter is the current #1 favourite, then a Caper. Not bothered about Angling Versions as I fluff chuck. Cheers JRT
  11. I thought that would have been obvious? I probably would have been outbid anyway but you never know...
  12. I know you are meaning well but posts like this just force the price up!
  13. I agree, the truth is normally in the middle of the extremes and if media hysteria gets results then fine. BUT my fear is politicians never make policy decisions based on facts or common sense, they make them to react to media hysteria and that we will some crazy policies that will benefit no one, especially the fish.
  14. Well done guys, inspiring stuff. Are the squid very localised or can you get them in most deep water locations? JRT
  15. Just to add to my early post. Yes overfishing IS responsible for depletion of fish stocks. BUT sensational unproven headlines just undermine the real facts and our cause in the end. Just like Y2K etc. eventually the public will switch off and the politicians that respond with knee jerk reactions will lose interest to. Just support this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6115644.stm The green band wagon is getting silly. Yes it is serious and real but we need real long-term measured based on fact not media hype.
  16. Just like to point out that overfishing is only one of the stated reasons for the predicted collapse. They also think rising sea temps and pollution have a big impact that is extremely hard to measure and monitor. You need to look at who produces these reports and see if there is any political lobbying behind it. The Stearn report is a prime example. Gets released and pushed in the press (who are pro-labour) and then the government uses this to justify 'green' taxes, perfect timing eh! Another tactic is to scare everyone that we will be paying ££££ in green taxes so when they only tax us £££ it looks like we got off lightly. This is has nothing to do with green issues, trust me. Also how taxing the public will repair the hole in the ozone layer is beyond me?
  17. Great looking boats. Love the flat hatch area under the seat. 2 questions that I can't find any answers from the BG reviews: * how wide is the seating area and is there plenty of room to sit side saddle? * what is the configuration of the centre storage area? Is is 1 straight storage box or is it sectioned and is it sealed well? I'm currently undecided between this and the Drifter. JRT
  18. Parents will not be forced to send the child to a faith school. In fact many parents want to send their children to these schools as they are often academically better than standard state schools. Discipline tends to be far better to. Although I would not send my daughter to a Muslim school because I think it is backward thinking religion that suppresses women, just my opinion. The trouble comes when idiot politicians try and fix big long-term issues with half-arsed quick-fix 'policies' that impose unrealistic restrictions and rules on schools. JRT
  19. "The sub-committee will have 10 members; five elected (county councillors) and five Defra appointees (the two RSA representatives, two representatives from the catching sector and one environmental representative)." " 2 reps from the catching sector" so commercials are on the RSA committee, or am I missing something?
  20. Coddy, 6 pages of posts and this one quote sums it concisely
  21. Glen, Quotas mean discards. So as well as pressuring shrinking stocks, more than %100 of the Cod actually caught are also discarded, crazyness. How can target different white fish from 1 week to the next? Or am I missing something? JRT
  22. Are the other EU fleets cutting back or just the UK ones? The quota system is such a bad idea that it has jsut compounded the problem. Compromise seldom works... JRT
  23. Thanks guys. I'll give the Cobra guys a call and see what they have to say. Hopefully I'll get a go on Gonzo's drifter when he gets it to. Mike, good to hear from you mate! So when does the fishing shut down over there? Cheers John
  24. Hi Jaffa, A1. Private boat, 1 guy normally but I have seen 2. A2. Friends and I have caught hundreds of fish from this mark..ALL returned, non kept. A3. Nope, I catch what I can before the tide pushes me off. The most I have caught in a session at this spot is 10, again all returned. I then move to another mark. A4. A friend who is a boat owner and fishing buddy sees him selling the fish AND has reported him to no avail A5. Yes he has been reported as stated. But it seems he is not big enough to warrant investigation. As we keep saying constraint is all we are asking for, which doesn't seem to much does it? Yet 'Anglers' are their own worse enemies. Which is why we will have restrictions slapped onto us without any say in the matter or future matters!
