  1. my experience has always been just buy a new pult rather than naff around with elastics. By the time the elastics gone the frame is deformed the pouch knaclered etc.
  2. Is this the culprit who got the traveller???
  3. I've fished the canal a since a kid and yes have had the odd argument with a boater. That said i'm acvtually very mild mannered and like anglers the majority of boaters try to be considerate there are exceptions to this rule as in angling. I would much prefer (as you already do) the boaters to cut there revs and go down the center of the cut. The big problem as you probably realise comes in the height of the summer season, but in fairness i know these are not true boaters and like everything in life they have a right to be there. What i dont agree with is reopening at a lot of expense some of the old disused cuts. leave them in there wild natural states (greedy side of me here ) and let us anglers fish them as the havens some of them are.
  4. My advice is dont tell her anything and just sneak what you buy into the house like the rest of us. Cant rember who's tag line it is but his biggest fear is she will sell his gear for how much he said it cost.
  5. Been a while since i fished that part of the nene i'm otherside of northampton. I would move around a lot the river changes from swim to swim up thee a great deal an area i would try with the weather we've had would be barnwell deeps , not certain if names right memory going a bit hazy after all these years.
  6. Hi stoff and welcome. As for being a beginner i've been fishing over 30 yrs now and still call myself a novice. Ask as much as you want its amazing how complex even the simplest of questions can turn out and the variety of answers you get. As for loading of the reel the advice given is great just a little add on for ya to bulk the spool use old oe cheap line i always ensure its heavier than what i intend using as a finished article that way should a fish ever take a 100yds of line off me i have a back up plan. Another tip is tie the line to the spool dont learn the hard way like a lot have. cast out real falls in ruver with open bail arm no knot mean s go buy a new real. I'm sure someone on here knows a link to the required knot. and remember the guy that knows everything only fools himself.
  7. What part of the nene are we talking about? Its a long river.
  8. I've fished a lot of the ouse above and below adams mill (but never adams mill itself) I have never ever in 20 yrs heard of or seen an otter in the ouse. Not saying there isnt but seems strange some fish turns up dead and we want to blame an otter. A lot of anglers wouldnt know an otter if it bit them on the arse though. Realistic possibilies that i havnt seen mentioned are mink. But i suspect old age and every thing from a fox to rats having a nibble once they got to it.
  9. Small point but your only poaching or trespassing if you dont have permision to be there. You can join a club which gives you permision to use thyere waters so the only offence is fishing without a license. and if were honest if your on a club water the chances of seeing an ea bailff are worse odds than winning the lottery. in 30 yrs i've never seen an ea official on a club water only day ticket or free fishing areas.
  10. not entirely certain but i believe 4x14 etc refers to stile sizes rather than shot. Styles are similar to shot but you cant remove them easily once placed on the line, they tend to be sdmall pieces of lead folded over the line with special plyers. Yes it can be confusing, when you see a float marked 4 x 16 the 16 denotes the size of style lead. I am not sure if there is a chart available. See my list below. 4 x 10 = .1 gram 4 x 12 = .2 gram 4 x 13 = .3 gram 4 x 14 = .4 gram 4 x 15 = .5 gram 4 x 16 = .6 gram 4 x 18 = .75 gram 4 x 20 = 1.0 gram hope this helps. ps i copied this from a bob nudd post i found on here.
  11. What section you fishing? Not certain but thought bloodworm and joker was banned on virtyally all the canal in that area might be worth checking first.
  12. this should give you all the info you require http://www.gofishingshow.com/
  13. Its a bit late in the year for my suggestion but may well be worth a go in the summer. Make up a weed drag and clear a swim for a cpl of weeks before you fish it . then on day you fish give it a quick drag through again and fish bread, working on the theory if theres lots of ducks people will feed them and bits of bread will be a common food source for the fish below. Bread might still work at this time of year aswell.
  14. put me down i'll get cheque to you next week i'll be more prepared this year
  15. The british record list is a farce at best nowadays. Chub and barbel from lakes ,carp imported from the continent along with cats and god knows what else. Trout reared specifically to be big and released at such a size they could never have grown to naturally. Give me a stream full of tiny natural fish anyday and watch the grin when that bonus fish that requires a landing net pops up.
  16. Well if he wasnt famous before he is atleast infamous now. btw does anyone from the angling press read these boards?might be an idea to point them in this direction and let them know the views of people considering there actions on this and other matters that crop up from time to time.
  17. i'd like to see the total paid to the ea by salmon anglers and coarse anglers and see who pays more, my guess the majority pay more than the few elite (but have no facts as yet to bacvk this up)
  18. two teir system it always has been. why expect it to change. the cormprant problem was the same trout lakes were alowed to shoot them coarse lakes no chance. aftyer all salmon has always been reserved for the upper elite.
  19. in days gone by i'd like to go back to that secluded river i caught my first 2 oz perch when i didnt habe a care in the world and every trip had three days of sorting tackle before. now i'd like to just get by the river stick float fishing for roach.
  20. i'd be looking at family and friends for storage. Or even at work storing it outside would just be an invitation and i would doubt any insurance company would consider insuring it under them circumstances. That would be something that requires checking also.
  21. a lot depends on if you just want to ledger for carp. Also what sort of waters, fishing margins close in or fishing at range theres a specific rod for it all. if your starting out (the specimen guys would probably be better than me at this) i would opt for something about 2 1/2 test through action and a real loaded with 10-12lb line (or braid of 30lb) might be best to stick to mono to begin with. as for rigs keep it simple i'm not one for the latest fangled ideas i think most are to catch anglers than fish.
  22. Was it the common by any chance? My experience of the common is three miles of river with about 20 pegs worth fishing depending on time of year. Normally everyone heads for the brook if you leave your gear there someone will move in. Although i do agree its not right but nor are a lot of things in life.
  23. I'm away to selesey near portsmouth this weekend i have beach casters and boat rods is it worth me taking them? And are there any specific locations you could suggest.?
