  1. At dusk or dawn depending on the background surface colour i find it helpful to use either black tipped floats or just pure white. Might help also i tend to keep a tighter line and try and feel the bight more
  2. I think i may be able to help here,,, Just for once I've fished most of the upper ouse and up to about 4 years ago i was on the Vauxhall angling club commitee. Clubs that control stretches of the ouse are MK anglers Northampton Nene Bedford Vauxhall Ampthill and district buckingham angling Which club you join and all are open to everyone depends what species you want to really target Buckingham stretches have some huge perch MK have adams mill (think its been beat now but this is where the british record came from) and the one i know most is vauxhall (i can name the pegs lol) big barbel big chub lots of pits with big bream /carp and tench and a few cats if you want to know anything specific just ask.
  3. I found medium size pike fight harder than the big ones which seem lethargic in comparrison either that or just to fat lol.
  4. MAd hatters??? i'm from luton mate the original hatters. And yes i went to today and froze got a few nice roach but nothing spectacular, beats listening to the missus though.
  5. before i start i have had a license since i was 11 (brought it a year early by mistake) i use to resent the old system as even as a junior it cost me more than i pay today for licenses in two different areas (i lived on the borders of thames and anglian. Personally i would like to see a lot more bailiffs checking for those that dont pay, not just on the day ticket or free stretches they seem to concentrate on. most who dont buy fish for clubs . I use to match fish and fished a cpl of nationals some anglers had the audacity to attempt to fish these without rod licenses??? and deserved everything they got . best one was when overall winner was disqualified ,fined and lost his tackle through not having a license, i dont think he will repeat that
  6. Sturgeon use to be native to our rivers. But did you know sturgeon were like swans?? every one caught belongs to the monarchy.
  7. kids can be a problem but our sport has changed over the years most of us started tddler bashing our local canal river or ponds . nowadays you walk into a tackle shop see an array of 3lbs carp rods buzzers etc and this is what the kids see . They try it a cpl of seasons mostly dont catch much and sure enough a complete carp outfit is up for sale. Shouldnt we be teaching these kids about the craft of fishing rather than just blaming them for there lack of knowledge??? this way fishing might survive into the future at the moment anglers run the risk of becoming an extinct species
  8. hi i've recently moved from the south of england to northamptonshire . i was used to fishing large rivers with a strongish flow i'm aware the nene had a reputation for roach but what areas should i be concentrating on? and should i treat it as a still water as every section i've looked at seems devoid of flow
