  1. I decided to go for the Lumix. Hopefully I'll get some good pictures with it.
  2. Hi I’m thinking about upgrading my camera. At the moment I have a Compact made by Fuji but I’d really like to get something a bit better for when I go on holiday. I like to take a few scenic shots and feel like I could do with a bit more zoom than what my current compact offers. I don’t mind playing around with different settings when taking a picture but when my wife takes a picture she likes something that pretty much does everything automatically and likes to have people in the shot. So we kind of want something that does both if possible. I think it would be best to have something that uses AA batteries rather than rechargeable via USB because it’s easier to recharge the AA’s when on holiday. I would like to spend up to £150 but if possible would like a memory card and case thrown in as well. I’ve seen this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Lumix-LZ20-Bridge-Camera/dp/B008TNLENC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1369683844&sr=8-4&keywords=lz20 and this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5598218.htm and would appreciate your thoughts on those or any other suggestions. Thanks
  3. I'm aware that there will be no more support for XP in less than a year's time. I do intend to upgrade my system before that time is up.
  4. Thanks to everyone for their comments and suggestions. I will tell the Mrs to steer well clear of that site.
  5. Thanks for that Andy. I’m pleased to know that it’s not a problem my end. How do you tell that the website is knackered though? Would be good to know what to look for if anything similar happens again.
  6. I’m having a problem with accessing a certain website or I should say the Mrs is because it’s one she wants to browse. It’s actually this site www.shop4makeup.com if that’s okay to say what it is. When I try to open the website’s home page, it does not load correctly. Instead of images being displayed, I get those small image icons. Also, when some of the website’s home page does load (which takes ages) and I click on any of the links, I get a message saying cannot connect. On other occasions, it also looks as a though a text only version is trying to load because the text is a different colour, usually blue. This is the only site I seem to be having a problem with. Every other website is loading fine. I have tried two different browsers, IE8 and Google Chrome, though Google Chrome does seem to make a better attempt to load the page than IE8. To try and solve this problem, this is what I’ve done so far: Tried to access the site on two other computers. There was no problem at all. Also, my son’s girlfriend can access it on her mobile going through my router at the same time I can’t access it. Ran CCleaner in each user account. Flushed the DNS cache in each user account in a command prompt, although I thought CCleaner did this anyway. Tried clearing the browsing data within IE8 and Google Chrome Turned my router off and on again. Ran a virus scan. (MSE) No malicious items found Ran malwarebytes. No malicious items found Checked the hosts file but doesn’t seem nothing untoward in there Tried to ping the web address which determines no loss of packets sent or received. However, it comes up with address 92.48.117.50 which if I enter into IE8 it comes up cannot connect. Google Chrome comes up ‘If you feel you have reached this page in error, please contact the web site owner:’ and then mentions about clearing DNS cache. If it helps, I’m using Windows XP Home Service Pack 3, AMD Sempron 2.8, NVIDIA Geforce 6100 onboard graphics, 1gb of RAM and 30mb broadband connection.

  8. Me too. Noticed it yesterday and today. I'm using IE8 should it make any difference. I've also noticed some odd things in the Status Bar when the page is loading. Something about inserting random numbers is one of them
  9. I’ve tried another cable and also tried only having only the SATA drive connected but still it doesn’t work. I might try a BIOS upgrade. If that don’t work I’ll probably get an IDE DVD writer
  10. Thanks for your reply. The motherboard is Asrock K8 Upgrade - NF3
  11. My computer had two IDE hard disks, an IDE CD writer and an IDE DVD writer. I decided to replace the DVD writer because it stopped working properly. I got a SATA DVD writer but I can’t get it to work with my computer. When it is connected, the computer reboots all the time. I can’t even get into the BIOS or boot menu. The computer does a memory count then just reboots. Even if I press the F2 of F11 keys, the screen shows entering Setup or boot menu but still reboots. Should I have got another IDE device or is there something I can do to get the SATA device to work. I have tried it on both SATA ports on the motherboard and that doesn’t make any difference.
  12. Very sad news My condolences to Newt and his family.
  13. It was uncomfortable. I also ended up getting an infection so I was on the antibiotics again and had two weeks off work with it.
  14. Anyone who gets tonsillitis gets my sympathy. I was always getting as a kid and my mum was always taking me to the doctors. He said that I would grow out of it and not get it when I got a bit older. This was true for a good few years until I had children. When they started school and bringing home the germs I started getting it again. In the autumn and winter time I would get it fairly regularly and would go to the doctors to get antibiotics because it was the only thing that would shift it. I eventually had them out when I was 33 years old and never ever regretted it.
  15. Is it part of an image of a crucifix draped in purple cloth?
  16. I've caught chub on crust that's been smeared with Marmite.
  17. Hi I’m in need of a bit of help here. My son has been messing about with my computer. He only had a Limited Account but somehow (using a command prompt and something to do with net user I believe) has managed to give himself and the Guest Account administrator privileges. I noticed something was odd when I went to do something and had no admin rights. I checked my account and it had been changed to Limited. I went into Safe Mode and the only two accounts listed were his and the Administrator. As a quick work around I created a temporary account using the Administrator Account, gave it Admin privileges, then went back into Normal Mode, used it to change mine and the wife’s back to Admin, his back to Limited, then deleted the temporary account. Even though I have changed his account back to Limited, the screenshot shows him as Administrator. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know the wife’s or my password, so he must have done something in a command prompt. I have attached a screenshot of the net users in a command prompt. What I need is: Tony Administrator Sandra Administrator Shaun Limited Carl Limited In the screenshot as well, what does HelpAssistant and Support_388945a0 mean? Somehow or other I need to stop this happening again. Is there any way I can stop him using command prompts. I'm using XP Home Edition SP3. Thanks for any help.
  18. I have seen kingfishers on the Medway and Beult recently but didn't spot any herons.
  19. As I haven’t done much piking on the river this season, I thought I’d have one last session today. I had three out on dead baits. One jack, one near double and the other was just over 11lb.
  20. I have to say everything on this problem seems alright now. Just had a quick look at the Kaspersky website, not for any real reason and I came across the info in the link below. http://www.kaspersky.com/support/kis2010/tech?qid=208280979 As I’m running KIS 2010 then the second bullet point under the Fixed paragraph was probably the cause all the time. I must admit I didn’t suspect that Kaspersky would be the problem because I’ve had previous versions which have run no problem at all. Anyway, I ran CCleaner and defragged using the suggested deffragger so at least I’ve given my hard disk a bit of maintenance.
  21. Thanks for the reply Newt I do run CCleaner now and again and the registry repair in each of the user accounts on my PC. I’ve not long done a defrag using the Windows defragger. I will give chkdsk a go and see if that helps.
  22. I am using XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3. I have 5 user accounts. Two are administrator, two are limited and the guest account. In order to logon, I use the Welcome Screen and also use Fast User Switching. The problem I have now and again is after logging off or switching user. What happens is that I’m left with a totally black screen or a blue screen with the Windows logo on. The list of user accounts doesn’t appear. If I reboot then the list of user accounts loads up again okay. I can’t be certain about this but I think it happens more often than not after using Outlook Express 6. Any ideas ?
  23. If you’ve got this thread open there should be an Options button at the top. Click it and under Display Modes click Standard. I think that will sort it.
